  • Go behind the scenes and watch natural-light shooter Audrey Woulard trying out the Profoto Connect, the button-free trigger, together with the Profoto A1 light. Being on the mission to create images all around Barcelona in one single day, she gets to put the button-free trigger through its paces during the day’s different lighting conditions. No buttons, no complexity, just a lot of creative freedom.
    The perfect tool to get started with light shaping.

    all images have either a on camera look or non diffused harsh contrasty look. She could have used a soft box. then adding a smart phone to the mix to make changes...unacceptable.

    After thinking a bit about it, the problem is not necessarily the trigger. Full auto? Ok, fine.
    But people will still need to use the right modifiers. Natural light with a bare speed light? Are you kidding me? No chance.

  • @eyeport

    I understand it's Profoto's intention to make flash photography less intimidating for beginners but the reality is: (1) Overpriced for beginners. (2) Relying on TTL will be the No1 discouraging factor for beginners as they have no control of flash output at all and exposure will be all over the place. (3) the over simplified feature will leave no room for growth once a photographer is more confident about flash photography. If Profoto really wants to attract natural light shooters to enter the flash/strobe market then you should offer free regular elementary classes for purchasers and owners. IMO this would be the right way to do it. So far the campaign photos are really killing the Profoto brand.

      If there's a beginner who thinks a $300 trigger and a $1000+ light will make their images better, they're probably already hopeless.

  • @bobhanuman65

    Many of the comments below remind me of the "nothing but Sony is good trolls" This is a promo video to inform about a product. Nothing more. It is not meant as a critique of the photos or photographer anything else. The connect is a simple product with the ability to control more than one device if you need to. But is probably intended for going outside with one unit and as little gear as possible. It is simple in design, works as intended, is discreet, and yes, expensive for what it is. And yet, many of the comments below seem to be intended to bash Profoto and say Godox is cheaper, and just as good-- just like those Sony trolls. Trying to prove something but I'm not quite sure what. The product works as intended. It's up to the individual to determine if they want want it offers or not. If you're not going to buy it fine. Why
    I had cheaper gear until a few weeks ago and really am enjoying the simplicity and reliability of Profoto. I find the light to be classier and much more sophisticated than what I had before and the ability to control the light easier. I am bothered by the cost of things like Profoto reflectors and triggers but there are other options from using bowens mount converters to simple things like cinefoil.
    Profoto is a good company that has excellent customer service and great products that are very expensive. Y'all ever try to have something from Godox serviced?

    it's funny in the video where it shows the lady photographing her model on the beach and says she switches to manual to fine tune and yet the a1 is probably 2 ft higher then her reach. With this tool you can't make that adjustment from the console you have to lower the flash to make that change until you get it to where you want with the manual. The air remote game it you can push the stops up to 10 down to 2.. This is not on my Christmas list...

    I LOVE Profoto - but this needs more physical controls... IMHO there's not enough diffusion in the examples used to make them look natural... It feels like they're targeting consumers/enthusiasts with this release, but even at $299 - a deal by Profoto standards - I don't feel like there's enough here and control via your phone gets in the way... My advice would be to improve the existing triggers - e.g. give them a display that shows the flash's current power setting - that would be VERY helpful...

  • @TheTechnoPilot
    @TheTechnoPilot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I'm sorry, but as a professional, not having any manual controls on the unit makes zero sense, no matter how good you made auto mode! I feel like you guys took the requests people had for more information and control of direct power on the Air Remotes and reversed that request completely! It literally feels weird enough that it could be an accidentally released April Fools joke, but I really don't think it is sadly.

    • @volkom91
      @volkom91 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With all due respect you are looking at this the wrong way. This is a product for casual shooters who can't afford the AirTTL remotes, and who don't want to think about complicated flash stuff. They just want some more light on the subject without the hassle. I'm sure they are working on the AirTTL upgrade as well, which will have more info and direct control.

    I am a Profoto and Nikon user. Well honestly I am a bit ashamed to see something like this created as a promotional material. I feel after watching this like I just set with an insurance policy guy who tried to sell me anything before I die. Profoto has to really step up their game and the best way to see it is Godox! Godox is copying your ideas and brings very fast out products which actually make sense! I just photographed an international fashion show and had a chance to talk to a line up of photographers BTS. Profoto and Godox were in lots of discussions I have to say and it was not in favour of Profoto I have to admit and I do not blame them! Audrey is probably good in her niche what she photographs, but this certainly did not feel like a young, fun teen age based lifestyle shoot.
    This is 5 min promo teaser. Too boring for 5 min to watch. Too weak with final results to be wow after watching it. If this unit is aimed at amateurs photographers I honestly think you just did not make them believe in it! To define an amateur photographer these days, it is pretty much everyone around who has a camera - and to be honest starting with a phone in their hands for taking pictures. Good, bad, or sometimes amazing. Profoto is a relatively expensive brand to start with photography business when it comes to lighting and to make young students to jump the ship before they start to make sufficient amount of money is what your teams should be looking at. Give them a toy to play which makes that, easy yet affordable, not all the whistles on it which are used in your high end devices but still capable of knocking down any competition around. And you build your audience and user crowds way faster IMO :) Yes, someone just mentioned it bellow Profoto feels like Apple these days, I still use both of them but be careful since I no longer use Adobe, and Adobe used to be on top of their games until shareholders did turn it the other way around :) Happy shooting to everyone guys.
