How to Use the Motorola Droid Turbo on Other Carriers

- If you are looking at Verizon users with envy because you really want a Motorola Droid Turbo, there's a way to make that green-eyed monster quieter. Even though Verizon got the exclusivity on the Motorola Droid Turbo, it doesn't mean you can't use it on another carrier. In fact, most Verizon devices nowadays don't even need to be unlocked, simply put in a new SIM and it'll just start working.
With that said, there are a few points to note (like how to setup the internet to work after you do put the other SIM in, what carriers will work with it vs what won't, etc.). So here's a quick video walkthrough of purchasing the new Droid Turbo for the lowest price possible, putting in your new carrier's SIM, and how to set everything up to work properly.

How about HSPA+. does this phone works on HSPA+. some areas in NJ/NY for tmobile are hspa+. what band tmobile hspa+ works? does this phone has those band?
Great video, although, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an international version seeing that I live outside the US. I want that phone really bad.

i might buy it. when im back in the states im on verizon but i am studying abroad and it should work here in israel. the only problem you may run into is lte bands. thats not a problem in israel since lte isnt big yet.

Hi,great video! You are actually the only one who really explains how to do this thing. I'm planning on buying the droid turbo and brig it to my country in central américa, unlock it and use it. I know that my local carrier uses 850 with 3G and a looked up in wikipedia and it said that verizon phones accept 850 frecuence with 3G. Is this true? Would it work? Thank you!

Does the New Carrier Sim card have to be activated already Before i do this process of adding an APN to the phone ??. Or can i activate the New Carrier Sim card AFTER i add a new APN info into the Turbo ??. Please help....
So If I got this right I could also use this on a carrier in a different country when travelling. The only issue I possibly see is dealing with the frequencies used as you pointed out with ATT in New York. I could also see someone going on a two week vacation and just simply handing the phone back to verizon for a refund. Possibly me!

"crack knuckles" I got a worthy challenge for you. I bought my Droid Turbo in April. My buddy gave me the right APN settings to get it working (it took a few attempts with different APN settings) but it finally work. My phone broke last week. I bought a new one because I love the Turbo. I've tried putting in the same settings but my buddy can't find them. I've put in the settings you stated but can not seem to get the LTE data connection I had April through just recently. Also, when I text certain people it chops off the area code as I send the text and the message fails? I set this up the first time in Logan, Utah and now I am in Chesapeake, Virgina. Dinner on me if you can save me!

Great Video solution, the contract problem solved after 14 days, but i have another question!! , if i updated the phone (4.4.4 to 5.0) may the verizon ask me the unlock code again or not? or did not make any problem for me??
As other people have stated, the APN settings seems to be locked down on the Droid Turbo now. Is there any known work around for this?
one problem on mine is that it works good for 10/15 minutes and then it saids that signal is not available and i have to restart in order for me to make another call i am using 4g and i try it with 3g and it does not work..what can i do ?
I'm using the droid turbo with a T-Mobile SIM. I'm not getting the initial signal bars when I insert the SIM. I have access to the other settings, but can't sign into the T-Mobile network even after configuring the APN settings. Any clue as to how I can troubleshoot? Thanks!!

Awesome video. This leads me back to a question I've had recently. I have an account with verizon which I want to keep, would it be possible for me to use say an OnePlus One on big red's network? I travel up there several times a year but even when I add on the international package briefly for those trips I just never get good service. If it would work do you by any chance know how billing would turn out if I'm not cancelling my Verizon service but using a different sim for a week here and there? Enjoyed the video. Any luck on seeing if this phone will work overseas? I have a current Verizon account, but am stationed in Italy and do not have LTE here. I looked at the frequencies and saw that Vodafone uses 1800 MHz 3 band and FDD, while Verizon uses 700c/1700f MHz 13/4 band and FDD. So I'm not sure if it will work... any thoughts?

Do you have to buy it full price for this to work? Or it would it be possible say if you have the edge program from Verizon to have payed the bill a few times and then you could cancel your plan and switch to another carrier? Or does it have to be be paid full price for it to work?
I bought my turbo through Verizon, Verizon says it is unlock but Cricket says I cannot use my turbo on their service. So does this mean I just buy a cricket SIM anyway? Then call them to activate? If that is true I would be the happiest man alive. I love my Turbo but hate Verizon.

This doesn't work well with metro pcs. Data and text is great and fast but voice is no good. I constantly drop calls. I live in a high LTE area and it constantly loses signal and I can't make calls. Not too good in a emergency situation 😑😑😑

Now that that's all settled, how do we make MMS work, or an option to stock messaging app? I've done this with my Verizon G2 and I'm on AT&T. I can often get LTE, but I can't usually send or receive MMS.

Verizon doesn't lock their phones due to rules they made with FCC. They got a bunch of bands for LTE but they had to say they would not lock their phones to get it.

That phone is not compatible with Sprint because there are two frequencies for LTE that Sprint uses that Verizon doesn't use they both use 1900 MHz LTE that is why the iPhone 5s will work but this phone won't

Taye T. Akinde just plug it into your computer every once in awhile using the manufacturers software to update.
So I didn't get a chance to check that with the one I had and a few people said they'd let me know if they get the update. I don't see why not but then again won't know until they release an update.

You need to use the Straight Talk SIM card for T-Mobile or they sell Verizon SIM cards now so you can use Verizon as well and still have LTE
My Motorola phone didn’t ask for a code at all

You will never receive software updates to Motorola software nor android updates. Verizon pushes updates routinely. Any other carrier will not support it. So be prepared. Just FYI. Of course you could download yourself but may run into issues. And why not go with the fast 4g xlt? I cannot decide. I must ditch Sprint. Terrible signal.
Im familiar with how to add apn settings however on my new droid turbo there is no + (plus sign) that i can hit to add new apn settings. It doesnt even appear to have the ability to input new apns. I went into developer mode and still no options, Any ideas???

Dylan Schultz Well here's how I got around it. I was activating an unlocked Verizon droid turbo onto straight talk. Couldn't figure out the apn settings so I called straight talk. After going through 2 representatives they transfered me to a manager who set everything up on their end. Modifying apn settings wasn't even necessary

no, the sprint rule is you must use their phones and only their phones
No,but Sprint does have the Nexus 6,The Droid Turbo does not have the bands required for it to work on Sprint
the actual reason why it wont work in sprint is that their 3G network (CDMA) has not verified the Droid Turbo's ESN

I bought the phone, apparently, after doing everything as you mentioned, a different thing which I could observe is, I am not getting an option in the APN (the plus aign, to add new settings) Please let me know if there is any way I can add apn settings.

Hello I bought my Droid Turbo and I'm using it with a Simple mobile sim card but it won't let me use it as a mobile hospot (the mobile hospot only works with the Verizon sim card)...can I fix that or should I return the phone???? Did yours works as a hospot with the sim you're using????
