RIGHT? Same here. I remember exactly where I was when hearing this. As soon as I heard C, Cmaj7! Learned it on the spot. Totally inspired me to play it at a friends memorial that was coming up. Also a unique one.. Written by Ric Ocasek, sung by bassist Benjamin Orr, produced by Mutt Lang. Lastly, I remember thinking strongly.. Darren played such a sick person so well.. he HAD to have won something for this character he portrayed. Yep, He won an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG awards. All n all. Just a scene I’ll never forget. And compelled me to grab a guitar to learn.
Aimee hits another one out of the ballpark, again. I've always said she makes the most beautiful sad songs. When she covers a sad song, she elevates it eloquently, and simply.
Absolutely incredible scene. Her rendition of this great song is heart breaking. They both realize they are completely trapped and doomed. David couldn't run. He had nowhere to run to. And Andrew cries because he's knows he's going to die alone and unloved.
Beautiful song, and this scene, man... David, honey, whyyyy did you not run when you had the chance!? And what really gets me is that... I think, in this moment, Andrew was going to let him. Who knows if it would have stayed that way, but at least right in this moment, for whatever reason, the song kind of caused him to snap out of all the delusion and psychosis for a minute and I really think this was him accepting that David would probably not come back. And so, unfortunately, when he DID come back, it only served to pull him even further into the delusion of it all, which only made the ending all the more inevitable when the delusion was crushed for him. (but seriously though, just give Darren that Emmy he deserves already!)
I think David came back because he knew if he ran, the police would find him and charge him with murder. He felt he had no one to run. I think both Darren and Cody deserve Emmys for this episode.
The series portrays David as an innocent man who got mixed up with the wrong person. In reality, we have no idea how true this was. Assuming it is, I think David was just scared. He was a very timid character in the show. He was weak..
Stephanie L /// I'd of just kicked him in his Boxxxxx ,,,, I'm guessing all this was drama not facts of the Cunnan killing spree ... Great series , and this as well as " Vienna " ( Ultravox ,, last episode at the start ) were the best 2 tracks from it ....But Aimee Man is my " Find of 2018""
Watching Andrew cry made me think that he was relived from his delusions and psychosis for a brief moment. And realizing that the damage he did to himself all this time, and that David is not gonna comeback after what he had done. It showed that he was very lost in life and that the normalcy in his life will never come back to him again. He was truly just a lost soul and did the most horrible things one can imagine.
Yes he’s a sad figure , you have to have empathy for him his feelings , loses being lost and alone doing the unthinkable and at the end of his life unloved
Everything about this film from the people who were hurt/devastated/manipulated/disregarded absolutely chilled me to the bone. It's hard to comprehend, yet at the same time totally relatable, unfortunately. I am so grateful to learn of some of these specific acts of true courage and unflinching humanity - humbled into silent reflection about all this. I pray that everyone has found peace...somehow.
This scene is so powerful if this series could only qualified in Oscar, definitely Darren cris will got the best actor he has less dialogue here but his face expression it hit me oh wow so amazing
He looked out the window and realized there was nothing out their for him. The world was going to hate him regardless. This scene broke my heart. I never imagined all that time that David had before dying and what he was probably thinking...
We won't know for sure what David was thinking at that moment, but I believe it was more a kind of Stockholm syndrome that took hold more than anything else.
Did anyone feel they were trying to make us feel for this sick character? Almost had me for a second... that’s called good writing and directing. Great song.
The song combined with Darren's acting...I was on the brink of actual tears when I first saw this but had to remind myself that he's an actual murderer. Just goes to show the talent here! That being said, I wish they would've delved deeper into Andrew and David's relationship. For those who don't know irl they had an actual relationship for many months before they broke up and David even sent Andrew a care package full of presents. In the show they skipped over most of their relationship, probably for dramatic and time purposes. But I just thought the fact that they were closer than ACS portrayed made his actual murder all the more painful :/
The song is emblematic of Andrew's essential loneliness. In this scene, perhaps he realizes that, throughout his life, there has been nobody to "drive him home." Aimee Mann's wistful singing helps to trigger his self-pity along with a sad self-awareness. As others have pointed out, we can almost feel sorry for Andrew here as he recognizes the extent of his own loneliness as much as he realizes that David just cannot return the feeling he (Andrew) has for him. Darren Criss conveys the moment beautifully.
I absolutely loved this version of the song when I watched the series and I‘m glad I found it here on TH-cam so I don’t need to search for it every time on Netflix 🙂
I remember exactly where I was when I heard this. I heard C / Cmaj7 on the guitar. It compelled me to grab mine and play along & learn this version. I watched it a few times, noticed Andrew coming to realization of his delusions. Really heavy scene. A lot of interpretations. And a lot of great reads on these comments. I was late to watching this one. And thinking, Darren portrayed such a sick character, he had to have won/been nominated for something. Looked it up, sure was right! Darren Criss won an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award for this.
I grew up listening to this song a lot and knowing the lyrics...yet as a kid, I never knew the depth of these lyrics. It wasn't until I'm a grown up and seeing this scene that I finally realized how deep this song is.
This scene (and the last episode, 'Alone') showed just how incredible of an actor Darren Criss is...even after seeing Andrew do all of these vile, unforgivable things I still found myself being heartbroken for Andrew. I think this scene was him (at least for a moment) grasping that he was a phony and that nobody truly loved him because nobody truly knew him. Despite his seemingly healthy ego, all Andrew wanted was to be somebody. He just didn't want to work for it....well, in a twisted way, he left a legacy that people will never forget.
Who's gonna tell you when It's too late Who's gonna tell you things Aren't so great You can't go on Thinking nothing's wrong Who's gonna drive you home tonight Who's gonna pick you up When you fall Who's gonna hang it up When you call Who's gonna pay attention To your dreams Who's gonna plug their ears When you scream You can't go on Thinking nothing's wrong Who's gonna drive you home tonight Who's gonna hold you down When you shake Who's gonna come around When you break You can't go on Thinking nothing's wrong Who's gonna drive you home tonight Oh you know you can't go on Thinking nothing's wrong Who's gonna drive you home tonight
A truly beautiful scene with a mesmorizing song that I think is there to reflect Andrews loneliness and andrews reflection of what he’s actually done. I feel like Andrew has a brief moment of clarity while he’s sits there and listens to the song, like It gets clear to him what he’s actually done, killed one of the few people that’s been important to him and maybe also realises that David would never want him anymore now..
They were going for the David Lynch Twin Peaks Roadhouse vibe they got it This is why I love Ryan Murphy Marvelous combination of mind blowing cover of Drive and acting!
"Can't go on thinking nothing's wrong." They're people out there crying out for help, and for whatever reason their cries fall on deaf ears, and the only time we actually realize they needed the help is when it's all too late and the damage has been done.
Matthew Thomas The vibe the Twin Peaks bar had. Twin Peaks is a 90s series about an odd, macabre town, directed by David Lynch; try searching 'Twin Peaks Rockin' back inside my heart' in TH-cam and you'll see what they mean.
Damn when I see scenes like this makes me think of the years Darren wasted(spent) on Glee. Coulda really been like an enormous star if he had wanted to be
no, it's supposed to be a singer in a dive bar. And as we all know, once in a while in life, while drinking in dive bars we can, if lucky, catch a glimpse of genius. It's happened to me.
When you come into a show with low expectations and are completely blown away. I learned this song on guitar because of this scene.
RIGHT? Same here. I remember exactly where I was when hearing this. As soon as I heard C, Cmaj7!
Learned it on the spot. Totally inspired me to play it at a friends memorial that was coming up.

he remembered his childhood, with lack of love of his father, an then living an ilusion
Yes exactly. This was a real hard hitting scene.
Is this some more abomination stuff?

Stephanie L maybe also because Andrew did tell him no one else would get hurt as long as David was by his side.
The series portrays David as an innocent man who got mixed up with the wrong person. In reality, we have no idea how true this was. Assuming it is, I think David was just scared. He was a very timid character in the show. He was weak..

David fucked Jeff, and didn't really give a shit about Andrew.
Another amazing Aimee Mann cameo appearance. Such a talent!
She is amazing
Lingonberry pancakes!
I can't stop crying when I see this scen 😭

So true. Just a tragic tale.
Are you saying that they’re gay??
This is why I love Ryan Murphy
Daniel Minahan
Lo mismo yo
Murphy wanted a Phil Collins song. "Drive" was Mann's idea.
This scene made me cry. Its so powerful with the song, his desperation & the fact he STAYED! So sad
Darren & Cody just amazing performances too.

Great cover version in a key part of the episode. Chilling.
Perfect voice and use of a song about mental health
He looked out the window and realized there was nothing out their for him. The world was going to hate him regardless. This scene broke my heart. I never imagined all that time that David had before dying and what he was probably thinking...
We won't know for sure what David was thinking at that moment, but I believe it was more a kind of Stockholm syndrome that took hold more than anything else.
Simply beautiful beautiful beautiful cover. I knew it was Aimée's unique voice.
For a second.. just one flash moment ..you can feel sadness for the miserable life of Andrew.. man what a tragic story .
Just a stunning scene. I was super excited when I saw Aimee was going to be in this episode - and I wasn't let down.
Aimee Manna is a very good singer.😊Sne has a pretty and gentle voice 😊💘🎤🎵💐🌷🎹🎶

This scene is just so powerful & emotional.
I teared up watching it.

Incredible acting in a key chilling moment in the film...great version of a fab song sung so well by Aimee Mann
Marvelous combination of mind blowing cover of Drive and acting!

- This whole scene is so sad 🥺
Amazing scene . . . and wow, Aimee Mann always has been and always will be an unstoppable force. Amazing.
Excelente versión. El mejor cover que he escuchado de The Cars.
Truly a soul-shaking scene.
It truly is.
Who's gonna tell you when
It's too late
Who's gonna tell you things
Aren't so great
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
Who's gonna pick you up
When you fall
Who's gonna hang it up
When you call
Who's gonna pay attention
To your dreams
Who's gonna plug their ears
When you scream
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake
Who's gonna come around
When you break
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
Oh you know you can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight
very sad episode; very said scene 😢
The incomparable Ms. Aimee Mann.
Saludos de Perú no paro de ver esta escena me hace sentir muy nostálgico y también recordar que somos tan frágiles humanos al fin y al cabo 😞😞😞

agree completely. I also think he realizes in that moment, that he is going to die alone and unloved.
Brilliant, brilliant scene.
Yes!
RIP Rick Ocasek.

It's in the title description. Copied here: Episode 4 of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
Perfeito!!!
Aimee Mann reminds me of Jane Lynch if Jane Lynch were this type of singer. They look and sound similar.
Chorei nessa cena💔
É muito triste
