    This is the BEST explanatory video that I have seen. It makes perfect sense the way you broke it down and showed everything. I’m so glad I was able to see this video!

    You got us close - only issue is that cover will not come off if your door is locked shut and you cannot open it. We ended up bending the cover plate so that I could get my hand behind it. I moved some of the wires/cables up and down until we could get the latch to open. Once the tailgate door opened we could get the cover off. It was a pain in the butt since the top was on and the back window was latched to the tailgate. Thanks for all the jeep videos!

      You are welcome! :-) Glad you like the videos!! Starting at 2:14 I demonstrate how to remove the cover with the door closed and locked. I've done it several times and never bent or damaged anything. It is slow and tedious, but I've done it. Glad you was able to get the door open! Have a great day!!

      You are not getting the point Shelli is correct, the cover can not be removed as you instruct on a closed stuck door
      Metal has to be bent to do what we need

    My Tail Gate suddenly would not open. 2003 TJ. After watching and following this video my gate would still not open. I did notice that the lock and opening mechanisms functioned as in video so I got out a prybar and gently, while lifting the handle and jiggling and prying the door slowly opened. I also noticed the lock mechanism is held by the same bolts that hold the plastic cover so the lock mechanism moved as I fiddled with it creating more of a bind. A generous bath of silicone and grease it is working fine. thanks

    Thanks for the vid man. This is exactly what my issue is. I know it's unlocked, but the latch won't open. I'll get around to pulling that plate off and seeing what's up. Pronounced it just fine by the way. :)

      Sweet!! Glad the video helped you! It common for those latches to fall apart inside. Those little plastic clips get hard and brittle, so its a matter of time before they break. Thanks for hanging out on the channel! Have a great day!

    Thanks wasn't exactly sure how the mechanism worked back there and don't want take the rear middle brake light bracket off so I cam open the window to see. Just bought a portable welder and can't get it out cause I can't open the door. Luckily though I don't have to fight the cover beings I have recently stripped the inside of the jeep down. But it's like negative 10 windshield .so I am going tp have fun thanks again keep JEEPIN

    I took the plastic piece off and bent the tip of the rod down on the locking latch arm. It sticks every once in awhile but it's better than it was.

      I did pretty much the same thing to my 91. It works so I've let it ride like that until I find those plastic clips. Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to leave a comment! Have a great day!

    Just a note to possibly assist anybody that is having trouble with the latch on the back of a YJ.. when I work for AutoZone they had a help section which all your AutoZone's have as well as I believe O'Reilly's also anyway in their help section they had a little blister pack that had these little clips and the reason I know they did because at that time I had a 84 F-150 Ford truck that the tailgate had started giving me troubles and that's what it happened is that plastic piece had worn out

    Those little plastic clips are terrible. My driver door locks and unlocks from the inside but the lock cylinder is useless because one of the clips broke. I haven't found anywhere that sells just the clip and I'm not about to drop 100 bucks on a new latch assembly

      O'Reilly's has them in the Dorman section on the wall. So does Autozone.

    Problem is that cover won’t come off when the gate is close.

    • @Poweraddicts
      @Poweraddicts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will not come completely off true. But it will come off enough to move it out of the way to open the latch to get the gate open from the inside. I've done it a couple of times.
