    I'm pretty sure they stopped putting the entree in the cardboard box at least a decade ago.
    The newer rations just have the pouch out of a box with a cardboard sleeve with the dietary info separate.
    I guess the guy made a mistake thinking it was 2019 instead of 2009.
    Wth don't the US army use a normal date code? 😂
    It was really cool having a look inside that A&N store, it was HUGE!
    We have a few over here (UK) dotted around, but they're probably 1/10 the size and have about 5% of the stock.
    Love the story.
    You could write a book full of your experiences and it would sell so well, I'd definitely buy it :)
    Awesome review as always!

    He and I experienced military service around the same time. This means we were both eating the 'First Generation' MREs.
    The first generation MRE entrees of the 1980s included: chicken a la king; dehydrated pork patty; chicken loaf; chicken and ham loaf; beef chunks in gravy; four, small hot dogs; beef stew; corned beef hash; and spaghetti. The entrees were smaller, at 5 ounces. The next generation MREs in the late 1980s increased the entree to 8 ounces, a longer brown plastic spoon. The flameless ration heater came out and proved a big hit with the soldiers.

    I've eaten Humanitarian meals 13-14 years old, I've even eaten a German Einman Packen that was 24 years old. Amazingly they were all editable with the exception of the German crackers that somehow absorbed the wax from the wax paper wrapping and tasted awful. The longevity of American MRE 's are the best as far as I know. That still looked like a fine meal to me. Discoloration is normal

    Army vet here. We would always heat up the cheese with the chili (I didn’t eat the corn) in the ration heater then crumble the crackers and mix all 3 together. The cheese thickened up the chili and the cracker pieces gave it a crunch.

    I once found a pic online of some foreign troops (Asian I think) who were frying eggs in their entrenching tool over a fire. Another interesting use!
    Only once in the Navy did I ever do mess duty. I was between tech schools and we were put on working parties. So I get assigned to the mess hall for an evening dinner with about 300 Navy officers' wives. I stayed back in the kitchen. So after these "ladies" were gone, we come out to clean up. It was a shambles! Chairs turned over, plates of food on the floor, just a huge mess. That was when I lost all respect for officers's wives! Looked worse than a drunken frat house party. 🙄

    I've been wanting to subscribe since you and Ace were talking about your channel. Looked down and saw the link this morning that the cold is blowing in in Idaho, and here you are. Eating MREs, which it's rumored were a plot by the government to kill us off before we could collect too much retirement. (I may or may not have started that rumor). I ate that stuff, always left me feeling plugged up and high BP :)). We met at the buiz and you did a great job, smart and strait up, and we had good conversation. I live by your Buhl Neighbor Jarvis. He talked about you, I told him to watch Ace and Mikas vids.

    I speculate that over the years, the iron particles component of the flameless heater corroded into what might be rust dust. Hence, it was a, 'dead' heater.

  • @sarahdresler9776

    The chili looked really hearty, not sure if it was because it wasn't heated up, and the consistency was thicker. I wonder if the heater simply wasn't made correctly, since it's the combination of the chemicals reacting with the water to make the heat. I've seen similar types of products where one entire component was missing, or wasn't there in sufficient quantity, to do its job. Interesting. Great video, The cheese did look suspicious, but, glad it was edible. Looking forward to the next one guys, God bless.

  • @sovereign7499
    @sovereign7499 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try pouring a little bit of the salt from your salt sachet if it doesn’t heat up cause from what I’ve seen that sometimes gets the heater working if the heater is pretty old.

  • @terrycarter1137
    @terrycarter1137 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    i've heard a little trick to help the FRH to work is add a little salt to the water to get it going, if not and you're outside heat it up with a Coleman #533 single burner stove and your mess kit.
