    Julie, such a beautiful painting, it’s so lovely to see a UK artist, not only to share your art but your mixing process as so many other artists around the world and their pouring recipes are super expensive and I’m loving the idea of using Owatrol and cheapie B and Q glue! Take care, Laura xx

      Hi Laura, I don’t even use owatrol anymore!! Just PVA. I refused to pay the prices for it and to be honest they changed the label and it just didn’t seem the same! Thanks so much for watching xx

    Very nice. Yeah, stick with the PVA mix for a while. 🙂👍🎨

      Patty Puckett Pouring Art I think I will and see how it goes. The trouble is I still have quite a lot of golden fluids mixed with owatrol and GAC.... so it will be a gradual switch. !

    Julie, my Angel, you've just saved me a fortune!!!! I spent the week using up my owatrol making a total of 29 bottles and jars of ready mixed paint, only to find they're WAY too thin, and the paint in my test pour was all Fluffy looking . 10 litres of pva has arrived, and I heard you say not to mix pouring mediums on a canvas, and was ready to jump off a high bridge! ... NOW I see that you meant not to mix colours prepared with different mediums on the same canvas, and I can now happily spend the weekend adding the pva to thicken my owatrol mixed paints, and now my pours won't be so dull and chalky looking. Big Big Thank you . xxx

      Hi Karen, this video is a while ago now! But I am sorry if I didn’t make it clear!! I never use different PM’s on the same canvas… I use PVA 90% of the time…BUT if I use liquadex PM I add a small amount of PVA to thicken it up, depending on the technique. 🤗

    Hi Julie. I would think the water from the tumble dryer would have a bit of fabric conditioner still in it and fibres from the clothes. I had thought about using it for about two seconds but now use bottled water. Thanks for all the testing.

    • @JulieVatcherArtist
      @JulieVatcherArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tracey, I don’t do that anymore!! But actually it was always pretty clear as it went through a filter first. At the time of making this video (I while ago now) I was still experimenting with pouring mediums and consistencies. I read somewhere that using water from the dryer was distilled...it was really soft water with no floride or chalk in it. We live in a really hard water area. But after a few experiments I found that there was absolutely no difference between water from the tap! Thank you for commenting and Happy new year!! 🥳

    I hardly use pva any more. Occasionally Brian Greggs Black label as I checked with the manufacturer that it doesn’t yellow over time and is archivable. My best result are will Gerstaeker Acrylic Binder and a squirt of Liquitex pouring medium then deionised water to thin down. It keeps the colours vibrant and it is made for acrylic paints so no worries when I sell. Recently experimenting with Pebeo acrylic binder too. Golden’s airbrush medium works well with Floetrol for Dutch pours. Love your videos. Good to see a Brit making them. Sad we don’t have access to such a wide range of products they have in the US. (And the prices!)

      Thanks for watching Kathy! This video was done a while ago now. I have settled on PVA as a pouring medium as I haven’t found any evidence of yellowing over time. My paintings are always finished with an archival varnish. I will have to look up Gerstaeker Acrylic Binder, don’t know about that product!

    • @kathyian1
      @kathyian1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JulieVatcherArtist It is good and it is what they use to mix with pigments to great acrylic paint and can take quite a bit of water to thin. As for the pva yellowing it is more in 5 to 20 years I worry about as the builders versions are not created to stay absolutely clear. (A bit like house paint slowly yellows over time I guess so I don’t want to take any chances). Great stuff to practise with though and for newbies starting out and trying all the techniques. Do try some and let me know what you think. Pebeo acrylic binder is easier to get and somewhat cheaper too. They sell 4lts on Amazon for £41. You can get up to 3 to 1 with binder and paint then quite a bit of water so does stretch the paints out a bit too.

    That is beautiful, you keep inspiring me, did you stick with that formula? I have used the Owatrol and I am trying the PVA and water next.

    • @JulieVatcherArtist
      @JulieVatcherArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lesley. I didn’t stick with that formula. Mainly I used PVA and water. Straight pours or ring pours I prefer to use liquadex pouring medium now.

      @@JulieVatcherArtist Thanks Julie, I have Liquitex pouring medium, but haven’t properly tried it yet. Managed to get my hands on some Aussie Floetrol here, but the company is closing down, so rethinking before I run out. I will get some Owatrol too and do some experimenting.

    Hi Julie, having recently come back to the U.K. from the USA, I was using Floetrol which was an amazing pouring medium but my supply has dwindled down! I now have Owatrol and like you don’t get the same results. Do you use a bog standard B&Q or equivalent supplier for your pva glue or does it have to be Elmers? 🤔

    • @JulieVatcherArtist
      @JulieVatcherArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bev ferrier I don’t use Elmers... it’s still expensive in the UK. Screwfix or B&Q sell ‘ No Nonsense PVA’. It’s around £9.99 for 5 lt. it seems that I am getting a lot of the same feedback... that the owatrol isn’t producing good results. Try it 50/50 with the PVA, let me k ow how you get on.

    Julie, I so appreciate the testing you did with the UK PMs. I love the results you achieved with your chosen mix. And you chose a lovely color palette. I pray that the shops (yes, SEVERAL shops!) quickly accept and sell your lovely art and jewelry. People need to see your artwork (pours and brush works) and have it in their homes because your artwork brings joy and lightness to their lives. And what a blessing to have a husband who champions and supports your artwork! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next. Happy hugs ~Cheryl
