Awesome decision. They need an official 4.0 release to land as well as possible to generate some positivity and prove to both skeptics and those still unsold on the concept of the game how serious they are about the open development.
How does this do either? It's clearly not going to land as well as possible, when they have to give everyone the fall back to 3.24 when it breaks. When it breaks, it's just going to add further justification for the skeptics. CIG is close to putting out a stable build, but it clearly needs more time in the PTU than what they're willing to give it. We're talking weeks, not years. This decision is being driven by marketing. Very bad marketing.

I mean, a panel just on bug fixes and "this is how we did it" sounds really boring tbh. They did that before, that was the whole bugsmashers show they ran and, although it was interesting at first, I think the reason it hasn't returned is that, for the most part, I don't think people are that interested in watching a 10 minute video or so, going over how they fixed the bugs of a certain thing when they can focus on things that progress the game and actually set up expectations for what this game even is
I can understand it's not for everyone, but as a computer engineer -looking to work in the industry-, I really liked the in-depth technical view. And people do these shows in their extra time, like they do the interviews, so it does not distract them from their actual work (or they skipped some episodes when they worked overtime)
@@JamesSarantidis Of course, I was speaking in a generalized term and I don't wish to speak against those who enjoyed them. So don't misunderstand that I'm not saying those who enjoy those episodes can't enjoy them, of course not, I'm just thinking the reason we don't see such things currently is that the dedicating episodes weren't terrible popular. I can imagine maybe having them more as shorts or small sections of ISC for maybe prominant bugs, I just don't see it coming back anytime soon, but I could be wrong, depending on how many want it to return
This is so stupid. Don't play 3.23.4 because its going to get wiped when 4.0 actually works. Don't play 4.0 because it is incomplete and does not work. Its released but not released - enjoy another test server. Hahaha. End of the year joke.
So anything done is 3.24.3 is wiped as expected. But the 4.0 since its not live proper, will also not be saved... Ok what point is there for me to play at all?
Did you not read the letter? Any progress from the 4.0 Preview will be retained once 4.0 actually hits Live. Barring any major issues. Only 3.X progress is getting wiped at that point.
@ yea, the only thing that really is diffrent is the server meshing and the amt of people playing it is wat really makes me think it shouldn’t b too bad (hopefully) we did have 3.18 ptu for like wat 5 months? So not a lot of players were playing it
They have substantial bugs still in 4.0, and currently no idea how to fix them. They're hoping that by relabeling it as a variant "LIVE" they can trick people into trying an EPTU (not even stable enough to be called PTU) build. I'm sure they'll also use this "new way of doing things" as a way to proclaim that they delivered 4.0 to LIVE in 2024.
What an absolute clown show. What do you do when you promised the community 4.0 in 2024, but it still isn't good enough for live? Call the PTU a PU server. Ta da. Oh Foxy, I admire your optimism. They didn't say anything new. They changed "go/no-go" to "red light/green light" and told us that the roadmap is more useless than ever. :)
This is just lazy, just so they can say they released 4.0 like they said they would. Hopefully it will works out, but the smarter things would have been to push it off and release a more feature complete release.
It is a shame that they have limited faith in the 4.0 build. Will the auec and acquired inventory and ships carry over into 4.0. This is confusing. I am very concerned with this mess. I have been play4.0 and it was a bit better. I hope it works in a satisfactory way.

I'm not a games dev, but I do enjoy understanding the process of games development, ups and downs. I am simply speculating as to why they may not revisit bugsmashers or a bug fix focused panel at citizencon, focusing on a general audience.
@@spiller280It was only written down and spoken aloud.
@@spiller280 ok thanks
Love how they still don't give an exact time
👌
Year 12: This is just the beginning 😂
First time experiencing game development? =]
@@ShevaiAsan for a lot of their senior devs, yes!
Their "goal" is to let you keep everything. But, their track record is to just delete everything.
So we lost engineering and fire, for a patch which has still missed its deadline on account of the missions not working?!
unless the actual game play loops are in the game and the game is stable new players probably are not going to be joining the verse anytime soon
I just think they gotta pull the plug and go straight to 4.0
And then imagine a 3.18 scenario while they are on hiatus until the end of January. 3.18 was running fine in PTU too
@ yea, the only thing that really is diffrent is the server meshing and the amt of people playing it is wat really makes me think it shouldn’t b too bad (hopefully) we did have 3.18 ptu for like wat 5 months? So not a lot of players were playing it
please give me a 3.22 version of this so i can play without ugly UI missing infos and mastermess.
Introuble
And they can't get elevators to work consistently? Oh man, this should be fun :\
What the eff did i just read.
Did they fix the hornet mounts in 4.0?
I don’t know why anyone would waste time with 3.23 with 4.0 offered. I know they are trying to avoid a 3.18 disaster
It’s called the preview channel
Jeah...congrats that yiu woke up and realize cig is dumb fuc. we allready know this for years...
Only clown here is the one judging and crying about an alpha state game 😂😂😂😂
I've felt they needed to do this, since calling it "a service".
Seems the harder they try...the greater the failure.
