I have had uv5r. For years. Many years. And did not know this. I did it manually. Took forever
New to ham radio's i always found beacons but didn't know why i couldn't hear shit now i know
Same!
With that setting in R-CTCS can I speak with other radios on the same frequency? Or I have to put the same hz on T-CTCS???
Had no idea the baofeng had this.
Critical point here: The radio MUST be in VFO mode! It cannot be in Memory / Channel mode.
Are you sure about that? On my baofeng I bought in 2021 I am able to do the same steps and the radio appears to be doing the same thing. At the moment I'm not able to test if it actually grabs the ctcss tones but it looks like it's trying to. Works on vfo and channel mode for my uv 5r
Efectivamente, debe estar en modo frecuencia para poder escanear el tono. Si está en modo canal no funciona. Probado en Baofeng UV-5R, UV-9+ y Quansheng UV-K5.
Thank you
Like how the ball came across and you just volleyed it in the net, well done lads excellent play on the field here.
Bruh, how am I just learning this???? You sir are the best, thank you for the tip.
Happy to help!
The Baofeng, feature for feature, and dollar for dollar is the best HT on the market! I know, I have heard it all every bitch, complaint, and lie, but for now they are the best the closest that I have seen was the ICOM Z1A HT that came out when the origonal IC 706 came out.
UV-17r is better in every way I can see other than not having as many accessories.
@@TintagelEmrys Quansheng UV-K5
I have a Z1A my grandpa gave me.
The beauty is, in a catastrophe, I can hand them out, up to 130. That can not be done with the bloated price walkie talkies, unless one is wealthy. At a certain shopping site, I bought 130 for $150. Some will be sold for $20. Some will be given away. Some will be subjects of experimentation. Some will be to get new paintballers, air soft players, amateur radio operators, GMRS operators, and some will be basic scanners. I am going to dismantle one and place the components inside the dashboard of an old Jeep with a keyboard and microphone jack on the surface, for a gorgeous, built-in transceiver,
I have the older UV-5RA version and it also doubles as a GMRS radio.
Over 10years as a Ham, Baofeng being my first radio.....& just finding this out. Mmmmm, just another thing i wish i knew then what i know now. Thank you so much.
I’m new to radios. What is the purpose of this?
As an amateur radio operator since 1993, unless the repeater is a private repeater, the CTCSS tone will be known AND published. If you access a private repeater, you may be unwelcomed by the control operator. Nice scan function, and better than kerchunking all CTCSS tones. I recommend you ask permission after you’ve hacked the CTCSS for access to the repeater. If an open repeater, (again the tone will be published). 73 de KD6UYK.
I need to go repeater hunting now. I have every repeater in AZ programmed and named to my radios. But RepeaterBook seems to be missing a lot of Rx or Tx tones. Sometimes both. I included them anyways so I can add them later.
❤
Awesome short little video. I love it how you just get to the point. I love when people make videos like this it's so helpful and so easy to understand. Thanks for taking your time making this video!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great tip! Also seems to work to find PL tone for FRS & GMRS
My little baofeng keeps impressing me even after almost a year of owning 2 :))
This procedure only works in FREQUENCY mode, not in CHANNEL mode. And if the repeater does not come back fast enough, you'll be automatically exited from.scanning mode....
Unfortunately, you can't find the input tone unless you are listening to the input frequency and scanning tones with someone nearby that is transmitting on that input frequency. Luckily, a lot of receive tones are the same as input tones. But lots of repeaters in my area don't even have a receive tone.
I would love to get my hands on the book that has all these hidden menu items. Baofeng is much better than people give it credit for.
Why won’t it work for me?
You could always listen to the morse code beacon for the repeater, which in the UK has a letter code representing the CTCSS frequency.
can this also be done with the (t-ctcs)? and what will be the differences?
I did it. Manually. I NEVER knew this had a CT sniffer. Dude. What the heck. My life is a lie.
How is this not talked about allll the time?? Thanks for this!
Sorry, no, NADA, NOT. Many repeaters DO NOT transmit the same, or any code. Also, some repeaters employ an "anti kerchunk" strategy. There are even a few that have such a short "tail" that you could not determine if you are "getting in" or not.
MRP.
We use odd ball digital codes and different codes for recieve and transmit. We also keep the squelch tail to be as short as possible to help prevent this
I need to buy me a uv5r . My Yaesu FT-65 HT doesn't have this feature on it. That a shame. 73 AE4OY WILLIE PEACOCK EM-81UF Blackshear, Georgia USA 🇺🇸
I used chirp and searched for a frequency list based off state and it had them all listed. Copy and paste what you want from the list into a new sheet on chirp and upload it directly to the radio with all of the correct settings for each frequency.
Is it just my radio or does it only scan for aprox 5 seconds and go back to the main screen?
Same here 5 seconds only
Isn't that long enough?
Huh that seems like a pretty big limitation. I guess it's fine if they're continuously keying up, but if there's more intermittent transmissions, it sounds really annoying.
exactly what mine does stays on the same frequency you select ,doesnt change anything when CT is blinking?
tried this about 10 times but unfortunately mine won't scan once I do this
Won't for me no matter how many times I do this, the flashing CT doesn't flash, I wait for the repeater to come up and I wait second it goes right back to the frequency mode, doesn't do what this radio does... 😡😡
I want handheld radios and a small up for my office. I am located in Arizona. I don't want a big old antenna outside my home.
Baofengs Are The Best! For The Money, They Are.
For Example, I Cannot Afford No High Tier HT, I Have Few Baofengs And They Work Like Horses.
Does this key to the repeater because I listen to law enforcement and I don’t want to get in a whole lot of troubkeb
hello sir how do i connect my baofeng uv-5r to wln walkie talkie?
This isn't a bother to others using the repeater? It's considerate use?
Practically all modern handie talkies have this feature. It doesn't matter if it's a yaesu, Kenwood, icom or alinco. Only radio that doesn't offer this feature is Motorola.
Don't tell the Motorola fanbois that!
Wait.. What... Had no idea this was a thing.. Great video.
Thank you for your tutorial on the UV-5R and I’m always learning new techniques thanks to you.
Bless you.
Damn! All these years and I had no idea it had that feature! And people hate on this radio! Why?
This isn’t working for mine at all
😂It doesn't matter which tone😂😂😂😂
Scan function doesn't seem to work for me
Can you do this with a Tidradio td-h8 or td-h3?
Some reason mines not scanning can anyone please help
Thank you for posting this!
I keep getting a S on my screen what is that?
Dosen't work on my uv-5r😢
Only scan 38 ctcss subtones
Today years old🤦🏾♂️💡
Some repeaters dont brodcast a ctcss.
That is brilliant. Thank you for this.
How about the T-CTCSS?
Now I just tried this with mine it didn't do anything It stayed on the 67 Hertz
It also never keyed up
What does this mean???
Chimp do you copy
It did not work
Great Video!
I never knew
Do you 🚢🚢???😊
Get the gt 5r
Good trick to know for the cheapest ht out there!
What is this used for, specifically? Obviously im new to this. Just got a pair of these last week.
What if when I do this, it does not find the frequency? It just continuously scrolls through without picking one? I litterally got my F8HP yesterday so I am 100% a beginner.
That is a great feature and works for most repeaters as most use the same tone for transmit and receive. However, you should keep in mind that some repeaters use differnt tone for TX and RX. You will have to manually try transmitting on each tone. OR, accept that the repeater owner probably doesn't want you there and just move on.
Okay, but how do you know it's a repeater in the first place and how do you know what its rebroadcast freq. is ?
WHATT?????
Step one buy the uv k6 it has Am and is 10 dollars cheaper
What’s the difference between R-ctcs And the T is it reviving and transmitting
Yes that’s correct
@@HamRadioDX thanks just turned 20 and made this a hobby just got a alinco djmd5 and I don’t know how to set the dmr radio
To a repeater it seems a bit diff then the ham but I really wanna get mine working
Damn helpful
After 10 years now i know how to finds frequency .thank you
Is this a digital or analog system, and can i listen to police or fire or anything on it?
Wow that is very useful. Thanks.
Cheers mate 👍
Do you need a radio unit or anything else to use this handset to communicate with another hand set ?
Hi there mate I just got question can these radios be used as uhfs and if so what is the frequencies for the 80 uhf channels for Australia
Very cool, learned something new. Thanks.
I have this very radio on the way here. Nice cheap ht I plan to use on my allstar node.
Shouldn't you know the time if you know what band it's on?
Can you help me set mine just got it today please ❤
put that into t-ctcss to be able to talk back not just listen?
Ive had this radio for years omg. Thanks so much .
how do i know that i’m on a repeater frecuency?
i try this step but cant get the hz. any another setting?
When i scan and it picks up signal, but just goes krrr krrr krrr in about 2 second intervals. What does it mean. Im 100% ignorant to HAM i just want to listen to cool people talk 😅
Maybe some digital thing, I hear a bunch of pager-like things like that around.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing this!
For what what can you do after this?
nice, did not know can do that :D
thanks for keeping it simple ...
Would this apply for the Baofeng UV-9G also 🤔
If it's on the menu
Does not work on any Baofeng I own. even my UV5R & UV5R8W
It worked on my UV-5R, it depends on how far you are from the repeater
Do I need a license for these
I learned something 👍
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing
Well I'll be damned 🙃
ah-say-tay-say-iss
Wow. Splendid!

Why you skip it
Nice!
