A bonus shout out would be HOA Ham. For those who have an established home being able to have stealth hf antennas (he has one on a house mounted short flagpole) is as important as in the field contacts.
I have been diving down the hole of Meshtastic, and another great channel is The Comms Channel here on TH-cam. They go into deep dives to basic setup to making your own solar remote node.

I got my Technician's License 9 years ago - blessed to have taken my exam on the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor.
Isaac, although you seem to be requesting guidance from us viewers, I think everything this channel has put out so far has been fantastic. My favorite video so far was the 'Using ATAK for urban operations.' And I also loved the drone series of videos. Those two videos really got me started on thinking of broader attention to communication and other operations on my end.
I think the voice of this channel is in pushing the edge on capabilities and ideas of what we've gotten comfortable with like you've been doing. Keep pushing us out of our comfort knowledge on skills and introduce new methods for us to consider. It keeps us coming back for the next challenge or idea.
These are literally all the channels I watch for radio stuff.

I was the S6 tactical comms NCO who specialized in HF comms along with all the others like satcom and radio networks. I set up these systems throughout the middle east for various missioins. Many times they were just redundancy in my PACE plan but I enjoyed the challage of getting free satelite working. I think a civilian HF set that can send digital would be an excellent direction to go. Perfect for emergecy and simple comms
Gaston and Julian were the channels I really found useful since I was looking for emcomm content after I got my license in 2021. Their channels were the content I was actually looking for--not the many ARES type content that other ham radio emcomm YTers. Many just covered what is in the ARRL emcomm and ARES course, which I found to be boring and dragging. There's certain yt channels I cannot stand because they take forever to get to the point and blabber.

Speaking of comms. How about a group of cost buckets for what to buy? What is needed? From GMRS to meshtastic to DMR to encryption. For beginners with varied budgets.
What a coincidence, I follow all of the people you've mentioned in this video.
As a younger HAM guy it is cool to see some of my favorite channels featured. The digital modes, specifically, FT8, JS8 and APRS, is really what piqued my interest to get my license and keep going with it and these channels were all super knowledgeable about these modes and don't deter digital modes like some elmers in the space seem to.
I love this video. I follow most of those guys and thanks to you now following few a more. Keep it coming

Isaac, I think that you might be waiting awhile to figure out which thread is going to be pulled! The problem is that you are covering all the info people need. What you did here was perfect! Different people will branch out to learn more about what field interests them through the lchannels you listed but also here to to learn what they don't know about yet.
There are so many aspects to this and most people don't know them all, myself included. As I grow and learn different things they seem to be showing up here too! You are helping to create well rounded and informed people across all subjects. I never thought about radios until about 3 months ago! I had a drone I never flew for 3 years now! A flipper zero for two years I don't remember where I put. The point is that we can't pick just one area to pull on, we want to know them all lol! In doing that you are helping build a completely different community!
I'm already subscribed to all these guys. They are very knowledgeable people!
Another channel I think you'll enjoy and learn a great deal from is "David Casler Ask Dave" His is a channel that covers a wide variety of radio related subjects, including theory and practical applications. Dave keeps it interesting, loves to diagram his thoughts, and never fails to get his ideas across.
Pretty much captured most of the channels I follow. S2 is probability the most watched and valuable in the list. The hardest part for me seems to be "building community" and S2 has addressed that aspect in a way that is spot-on. Dirty Civilian has addressed the topic as well. Even though I already follow all of the channes listed, it took me quite a bit of time to find, and evaluate said channels to see if over time they actually provided useful content and weren't one-trick-ponies. Thank you for "curating" a useful list to help newer people save the time and effort. I would also include Dirty Civilian in the top-tier. The Comms Channel and Ringway Manchester are also good resources. Those two cover some good ground on Meshtastic and other communication formats.
The thread I'll attempt to pull on is the minuteman perogative (as nutnfancy called it once upon a time)... and perhaps not just the guns and gear end of it (as you guys do it well at both this channel and the T Rex Arms one), but expanding beyond that: Being a model citizen with a mixed bag of very useful skills to pull out at a moment's notice, be it for the more mundane convenience, the emergency first aid, the disaster preparation & response, radio communications in all of these scenarios, and overall being an asset to society as a whole. That's sorta what "Minuteman" means to me - being as prepared as you can be, and able to respond at a moment's notice, to situations large and small...

After getting a GMRS for my 4Runner I started to dive into HAM. Just began studying for the Technician test and I just thought HAM was an old man hobby. Boy am I wrong! Very cool stuff and I’m sure as I learn more and more, more and more applications will surface.
Technician is pretty easy after you study for it.
Just recently came across the sn0ren channel, pretty awesome stuff

I appreciate that this channel worries about the SHTF scenarios without simultaneously being one who thinks we'll weather it with a thousand pounds of food and a thousand rounds of ammo for each firearm. There's more to it than that. I would be interested in how you expect to power a lot of this equipment in that kind of a scenario. I think that's where I'm at right now, working on mobile solar capabilities to at least keep phones, radios, flashlights charged.

For getting into emergency comms POTA and SOTA are great to get into. You have to think about what equipment you use, how to set up an antenna with limited options and so forth. Makes you have to think.
Love the radio content. I just started getting into SDR, and actually have an antenna arriving today!

The Achilles heel of all prepper channels is the failure to commit leaving everything in a hypothetical state. This ensures no proper training, no shared logistics, no common procedures, and no community. Take comms for instance; here's a bunch of different radios, a bunch of frequencies, a bunch of antenna, and a bunch of suggestions so go figure it out. Which almost nobody does. Where, if someone were to say here is option 1 and a budget version backup, here are the frequencies and we're going to do a video on the right set up.... you'd have a starting point. People would collectively learn and be able to come back with feedback to refine the process. There needs to be a standard and an allowable deviation. This way people have a concrete and reliable starting point. Viewers can then have a knowledge base to grow and share their variations and feedback. And if we're worried about people with bad intentions leaning "our process" we'll at least have enough foundational knowledge to pivot. My $0.02 alway.
The problem being that comms are super subjective. I don't need HF or SATCOM because all of my buddies that would work together are within 2 towns. Since we only need to communicate within a couple of miles, simple handheld radios and meshtastic nodes are enough for us. But if you want to be able to tell your family 1000 miles away that you're safe during a disaster that killed cell towers/internet, you'll want something HF or SATCOM.
I do feel your struggle. When I tried to get my local buddies to commit to a frequency for our walkies, the answer I got back was "oh, I programmed all the GMRS and FRS frequencies into mine".

I sorta agree with you, but I think the goal of most if not all the videos and producers of said videos are you need to figure out what your need is and not follow what someone else's need is. Take it for whats its worth. I think there could be better options out there then trying to compile the videos. Maybe a discord group for everyone, or something.

But if we planted a stake in the ground and said X radio, X antenna, with a foal of 100 miles, and X frequencies it would be a standard and point of which to base other learning off of. Getting friends and family to come to a concensus is harder than getting my wife to pick a place for dinner 😆. Unobtanium!
@DustyLane with video being overwhelmingly more popular than discord and the like, I'd probably announce and communicate the standards on video platforms and then leverage something like discord for conversations around the standards and feedback. No matter what, a flag needs to be planted, a standard set, and then grow from there.
@@warriorgospel8168 I hear what you are saying but I dont agree. Some other platform that is not someone's video is needed for all of us to discuss things. It sounds like you just want to be to told what to do and you are going to go out and do it. But i would ask, how are you going to benefit from that if no one around you is doing the same thing. It goes back to the point from Kerbalairforce8802. His needs are not going to be the same as my needs or your needs. So setting a standard is very difficult. My point about discord is that I too want to get better at comms. I have been a ham since 2012 but I barely get on the radio and I dont have my General yet. But learning is important. I am working on setting up a dstar hotspot so I can talk to my brother without messing with repeaters just to get into the habit of using the radio. If we all did that or even started a NET that was on a digital mode for tech licensees it might help. But I dont know if unless we talk about it, hence discord or some other platform.
I found the podcast with Josh to be helpful because Josh asked Isaac good questions. It was good to hear what Isaac is trying to do with radio. It is worth a listen if you guys didnt hear. I recommend it.
I love the content coming out of TREX LABS. As for what I'd like to see more of, personally, I’d like more focus on parallel, modular infrastructure.
My background is in compute infrastructure and one of the things that’s blown my mind is how reliant we all are on a few key potential points of failure never failing.
Videos like this are great. Parallel Infrastructure and services are important for more than the doomsday scenario we all think about. Minor failures in food, water, waste, materials, data, and so on can be enough to make your life miserable, unbearable even, while the rest of the world watches a measured dose of your grief on CNN/Al Jazeera.
Also honing various hard skills is good in the event of shifting economic paradigms where maybe you can't learn to be a carpenter with 40-year-old knees, but you can become a technician in various fields. A machinist, a surveyor, whatever. Parallel skills for parallel infrastructure.

This is killer! Thank you TREX! Huge shout out to S2!!! My MAG crew is currently composed of members just far enough apart (20 mi), that developing a cohesive and reliable comms PACE plan has become the "holy grail"! We've tried multiple options, and currently have a "shaky at best" relay-protocol in place. "line of sight" has been the most identifiable hurdle. Any content on this matter, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all!

By far the most complex & expensive part will be HF but it’s also the only one that doesn’t need line of sight & infrastructure.
1 Cell phone call/text (text can get through sometimes when phone calls won't)
2 Satellite texting via apple Globstar network use on screen instructions & point cell phone towards sky/satellite
3 Email get every group members email Address (every group member work towards getting starlink)
4 ham Repeater programmed into radio that has been tested to work for all of you
5 HF radio via JS8 call NVIS
6 Simplex “line of sight” comms for when your 3-5 miles ish away programmed into radio as

Could you please make a video series about how to develop independent economies that can work outside the corporate and political monopolies? These independent communities should be able to provide food, transportation and other goods and services to their members and work autonomously during peaceful times but also during conflict.

Our community NEEDS a radio solution that is turnkey. In an ideal world, everyone would totally nerd out and learn all the ins and outs of it, but the absolute fact of the matter is that almost nobody will. At least not on a large enough scale to make a significant difference. We need something that can be purchased already setup with very short and simple instructions on how to turn it on and talk to other people with the same setup.
Okay so learn about it and set it up for your community. Don't be a baby demanding to be spoon fed.

I'd like to see you guys do some videos on the OsmAnd mapping program. It's A LOT easier to understand and set up than ATAK and better yet, it's way easier to explain to a group of people that may be suddenly thrown together in a self defense situation who have no experience with tactical mapping apps.
Things I would like to see explored more:
- Tradecraft; dead drops in real-ish world scenarios. How to generate and use one-time pads. Maybe see if you can use some playing card ciphers to pass intel!
- Radios; Test various spectrums like CB, FRS, GMRS, etc. How to develop and use ciphers for communicating when encryption isn't an option
-How to earn money for prepping when options are severely limited?
-Recon in real world conditions; how to prep for it, how to conduct it, what intel to record and how to return safely with said intel without being "made"
If you want it now rather than later, s2 underground already has a great video on one time pads, aswell as how to set up bonafide aes256 encryption

Well, you hit most of my favorite radio You tubers! including you. S2 does the boring stuff that I happen to really like! My last field hospital that I was assigned to had a Ranger type as the hospital commander [He blew out his back in a jump, but would not retire] anyway he expected the medical staff to cross train in many areas, in case for example it was our RTO that we were working on out in the field we could call in the medevac ect

I've been meaning to get my HAM license for over 7 years now, I just can't think with kids tearing through the house. Sorry Mom and Dad, I get it now. Using a few different YT videos I was able to muddle my way through GMRS licensing and I practice that as often as I can but it's barely better than CB, which I also use. I've wanted to try to implement ATAK and likely Meshtastic, as seen on S2 Underground, for simple to complex, peer to peer organization. It's always something more to learn however because I couldn't even get my Mesh devices flashed using Linux and the Chrome browser. I'll be over here using hand signals and GMRS/FRS.👍🏻
Headphones and the Hamstudy app might help. HRCC also has about 10 vids on a playlist for technician where Josh reads the question and ONLY the correct answer.

I'm like a challenged version of Lucas and Isaac, combined, with hopes of one day being more like S2 ;)
I picked up my buddies uv5r and programmed it. While testing from my couch I talked to a stranger in North Carolina then talked to a friend in Indiana. All from my home at 5 watts and a rubber ducky. I just don't believe y'all know how to use a radio. My success came from joining the local radio club and actually sitting with the experts and talking on the repeaters.

T Rex Labs, I really enjoy your channel. I enjoyed this video and the video on the Military Manuals being republished. I have recently learned of EVC or Evasion Charts produced for the Military. It would be great if someone made the same thing for all 50 states. They are flight charts of an area of operation with survival information on them. Including local plants. They are printed on Tyrek I believe so they are stronger then regular paper maps. It would be great if the community could start talking about a civilian version for the United States.

The radio that I like is capable of gmrs and ham. And can be recharged via USB c.
I think a cool idea for a video could be something along the lines of repurposed old tech. Things like old cell phones, tablets, ipods/mp3s, and laptops. I've seen some of those videos on youtube but not in the prepared citizen kinda way if you catch my drift. There could be some budgetary savings by repurposed items and maybe some uses that we didn't know were possible. I know a lot of people have these old items just collecting dust. Why not make them useful again?
I would like to see more along the lines of a blue force tracker for civilian use, and forgive me if it exists and I missed it just steer me there. Great work and S2 wire is my daily information tool for SA and I am prior Army and am looking for tools to stay alert
I'm convinced S2 is CID. He never ever interacts with followers or other channels.
I got an idea, Digital Voice on HF. I have a IC-705 and IC-7100. Those two radios and the IC-9100 with the D-STAR board can do DV on HF.
For Yaesu users, the FT-991A can do C4FM on HF. I believe it may be Yaesu's only radio that can to Digital Voice on HF.
It would be great to try out and see a video or two about using digital voice communications on HF.
