  • Hello. We have been waiting YEARS for this.
    FINALLY, Bonelab has released on all platforms, Oculus Quest 2 and SteamVR for Index and all other VR headsets. This is my total review of the game and its future potential. There is so much more to this game than "just a typical FPS"
    From the gameplay, story, modding tools and more, this is a SPOILER FREE review of the game and what you can expect.
    I hope you all enjoyed, worked hard on this one.

      Unfortunately VR will be such a rapidly evolving technology a game like this won't really have much of a long term impact. Headset iterations come out too fast for any serious AAA development. We need to find the correct headset (and more stuff like full body haptics, gloves, etc. ) before games really build off of one another.

Instead of restarting, I spent over 20 minutes trying to shimmy the two wooden crates ontop of the shipping containers to get back up. Literally has to lay on the floor and reach down and force the box up just to be able to climb it.

    I didn't know you can move that pillar. I beat the puzzle by moving the longer crate in the room against the sliding door in a way I knew it would fall in between once opened, causing it to prevent the sliding from closing once the button was no longer pressed. Then I just hopped on the smaller crate and pushed the button. Long crate fell, blocked the door, and boom. To me... that's so cool. And something that felt like a valid solution. A lot of the puzzles in Boneworks I'm not sure I still understand the intended way, but so far in my playthrough of Bonelab, the solutions I figure out feel more designed or at least less like I broke something.

    The amount of enjoyment you will get out of this game (and Boneworks) is proportional to how appealing sandboxes based around physics and gunplay are to you. For me, it's enjoyable but I'd like to see another game take these mechanics and refine them in service of an overarching story or campaign, which is why I enjoyed Alyx a lot more than I did Boneworks.

    What I'm extremely interested in seeing, is how mods will be compatible between clients, and how the social aspect of the experience will be.
    I would love the idea of creating a server, running a virtual world (not a room, a world) that players can connect to at any time of day they want, using whatever avatars and mods they have on them, and interacting with friends and meeting potentially new people.

    I feel like my worries were confirmed. 3 years ago Boneworks was the most innovative game around that had ripples throughout all of VR. Today, bonelab is just... boneworks again. I am excited to see what modders do moving forward and I'm glad quest players can try it now, but I wish SL0 had tried to actually expand on the systems they built 3 years ago more. They could have either polished the systems and really cleaned up the jank, making it a true polished and refined iteration on the experience, or they could have gone harder and leaned into it, expanding the system and really exploring what they could do. Instead they did neither. I'm honestly disappointed.

    • @clypz6536
      @clypz6536 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if you've played the game yet, but while I played, I noticed that they've cleaned up plenty of jank. Although climbing isn't perfect, it's 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 better than in Boneworks. The grabbing system is much cleaner, and so is pretty much everything else. The whole game just felt smoother than Boneworks. While it may not seem like much, the Bodymapping system that SL0 developed is also incredibly complicated and impressive. They made scaling your avatar to be proportional to your body and the world feel extremely natural. SL0 have expanded on their Marrow1 engine in many ways adding go-karts, enemies(that can be dismembered), native modding, and many new features in this game. Not to mention they made it run on Quest without majorly changing the experience. I wouldn't consider Bonelab, Boneworks again.

Feels like the only real game to even test these characters with is VRChat and honestly I'm not fond of the game anymore for many reasons.
