    I've always wanted to play VR chat. Looks hella fun, I've been following it for 4-5 years now. I had fun in desktop mode one time, and even bought a quest 2 (despite hating how facebooks been handling it) specifically for VR chat pc mode. I earned rank after a few hours in, and bought an avatar of a character I'm fond of. I spent a few hours just sitting alone with my new avatar, and I haven't played since. I want to, pretty much everyday, but I can't seem to get myself to go in. I live a pretty shut in life, I share an apartment with my father and have no friends outside of work, and have maybe three I'd consider work friends and only one I share a few interests with. I can't seem to get myself to play while my father is home, not entirely sure why, but I think it has something to do with not wanting to disturb him or something? And even when I'm home alone, I can't pull myself to hop in probably due to social anxiety and what I'd have to guess is some form of burn out, but that's a long depressing story. I wish I could just hop in and make a few friends, but when I'm holed up in my head its a lot more complicated than just do or do not

    • @jakeaurod

      You could try it in desktop mode for a while, for less of a mental committment, and see if that helps. I've been on desktop for 2 months and was thinking about getting a quest 2. I made several good friends... although recent drama and mental illness makes me fear that I've lost all of them.

    • @swampcooler8332
      @swampcooler8332 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakeaurod I was able to play in desktop mode and had a lot of fun one time almost 2 years ago, but the thing that was missing was the VR part. It kind of made me feel like an outsider with a lot of people in VR. I didn't get that playing in the steam VR quest version, and was 100% a better more fun experience for me and no more of a commitment, and I'd take going in on VR over desktop mode any day. The problem is with me. As for you, I'd say it would most likely be worth it, but everything considered it would be up to your personal preference and financial situation so I won't try and say you'll not regret it later down the line. I'd say chug a hard seltzer or lemonade if your old enough to drink or a coffee if not, (I find the ever so slight impairment from a small amount of alcohol or caffeine usually makes me more sociable or extroverted and open) and chase down those friends and make sure not to loose them, or at the very least end things off on good terms. You will regret it down the road. You also can't afford to let yourself go with mental problems, so try your best, force yourself if you have to, find a way to make things better even if just a bit. And those friends could help a bit to.

    • @jakeaurod
      @jakeaurod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@swampcooler8332 Maybe getting VR would work better for me. A friend had a breakdown and all I could do is stand there like a talking mannequin instead of give her a hug, even if it was merely virtual... of course, she may not have wanted a hug from me since I'm older than the average player. It's been an emotional rollercoaster. I went into VRC to relearn to socialize after suffering a brain injury and there are days I think it was a mistake to wake up from the coma.

    • @swampcooler8332
      @swampcooler8332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jakeaurod I know I'm not a therapist or anything, but it almost sounds like you still need to "wake up" a bit from that coma. Don't let the errors of your past bring you down now, there is nothing but progress to be made! Even if you don't know what to say or do, just be there for your friend and I'm sure it will work out. The good thing about virtual reality is that age doesn't really matter all that much (as long as, you know, she's not 10 and your not a creep or an ahole about it). So try not to worry about being a bit older than most of the rest of the people there. I'm only 21 but I'd befriend someone in their 60s in a heartbeat if they're cool about it and just generally a good person. I know there is probably a good few people in VR that would disagree and shun you for that, but that's not the person to hang around and their words mean nothing to you as long as you don't let them. Try to cheer up man, and sorry for making you read an essay for the third time

    One of the first experiences I played when I got my oculus rift about 3 years ago was mission ISS. I'm absolutely in love with space and astro-research and have been ever since I looked up at the stars as a kid, so to be able to experience what it's like inside the ISS and to do a space walk, especially as one of my first (6 DOF) VR experiences, was something absolutely wild to me. Even though it's pretty limited in what you can and cant do, you can still go around and get a run down on what everything is and everything in there is super detailed. The zero g physics are also pretty fun although disorienting at times. It's a free experience and is well worth a try, even if you're not that into space.

    Gotta second Gun Raiders. The mechanics all feel so incredibly polished for a free game. Shooting, climbing, flying all feel fantastic. Easily my favorite multiplayer VR game.

    One game I suggest is Gods of gravity, free, fun, (very) competitive and very unique. It is multiplayer with voice chat. I don't know how to explain the game but you can try it and see for yourselves.

    Not gonna lie, the title and thumbnail made me groan that you were probably gonna talk about less than stellar games that kids could play for Questmas (yes I'm kind of jaded about the Quest) but damn, some of these look really legit fun and I was happy to see they're on steam too.
    That dungeon crawler in particular seems to have its own charm that I really want to check out myself.

    Mission ISS was one of my first VR experiences. I turned off the comfort options and ended up making myself pretty sick. It's not the sickest I've felt in VR, but it was the first time I felt sick from VR. Worth it, though.

    I love this video. I get so tired of people saying there aren't enough games for VR. There are a lot of good ones out there if you're willing look for them and give them a chance. Sometimes you won't understand a game just right away. Be a little patient and you might just end up loving it.

    Glad you included Ancient Dungeon and Tea For God, my two favorite VR games. Here are some other free VR games on Steam:
    Desert Bus VR (VR version of the game where you literally drive a bus for 8 consecutive hours. You can have friends in the bus to make it a little more bearable)
    Google Earth VR (self explanatory)
    The Lab (Valve tech-demo-ish game)
    SCP Labrat (VR version of SCP, still unfinished but fun with friends)
    Surgeon Simulator VR: Meet the Medic (VR version of the Heavy surgery in Surgeon Simulator, a lot of fun)

    You mentioned Gym Class Basketball, and as a basketball player I decided to try it out. It took a long time to learn how to just shoot the ball. It is hard to control the ball, and it's not very realistic when it comes to basketball physics. However, one free game you missed is Blacktop Hoops. This is just a better basketball game that makes it much easier to play. You can easily dribble, with the ball coming right back up as opposed to just losing the ball like Gym Class. You're also forced to dribble in Blacktop where Gym Class you don't need to dribble, making it unrealistic. The shooting is also really easy to learn quickly and it also recently added Online Multiplayer. However, this game doesn't get much attention so if you make another video about free games please make sure to mention Blacktop Hoops, it's amazing.

    I saw this list, picked up my quest and got battle talent when you first started talking about it. I liked blades and sorcery but it felt like it didn't live up to the expectation I had of a wave based fantasy fighter. This game is perfect. You can cut your enemies apart, beat them to a pulp with your fists, or even rip their head off with your hands if it's just a bony little man. And it's all held on the headset itself, so it doesn't require a pc for anyone with that problem. 100% recommend, try it.

    I've got two SteamVR free games I recommend:
    Spellbound Spire is a Portal-like free-roam puzzle game. It uses portals and non-euclideon geometry to make your playspace bigger. Developed by University students as their final project, it's super well done and makes you really think.
    The Book of Distance is a VR documentary/personal story published by the National Film Board of Canada. The documentarian tells the story of his grandfather, a Japanese man who moved to Canada from Hiroshima in 1935. It recalls the story of him being detained in Japanese internment camps in Canada during WW2, and the torment of struggling with the bombing of Hiroshima. Extremely high production values, and extremely well made and interesting documentary. This is a real hidden gem.

    I think PokerStars also needs to be in this list, seems to be free with free play money and the game play and interactivity are great. this video was great and helped me find some games I haven't heard of that looked interesting. this is probably the first video about free vr games that i've seen that doesn't only talk about the same ten games. also, for a future video, there's an app lab game called Tube Be Continued. it's a puzzle game that builds on the concept of hamster maze games by having you solve minigames inside a virtual living room to unlock tube pieces to guide your hamster to their food bowl. it starts off easy, then slowly eases you into harder levels as you go on. there are only 24 levels, with easy levels taking five minutes or less, but harder levels taking longer than ten, which adds up to tons of playtime. it's very fun and i would recommend checking it out.
