    One of the greatest things you realize is when you are on a bad path June gets a fever that eventually consumes her. This is her literally burning to death in the incinerator. She always gets one hot flash at the beginning, but after that does not have one again on the true path.

    A nice touch that hadn't been mentioned, is that when you realise that Young Akane has been in constant contact with Junpei, you notice that all the UI and puzzle solving mechanics have been displayed on the bottom DS screen. In effect, the top screen has always been Junpei's POV and the bottom screen has always been Young Akane's POV.
    I freaking LOVED that detail. It went proper meta.

      though it also made a few things better, admittedly. In the original, while Sudokus ARE somewhat hard, the rules are simple enough that you could imagine her maybe getting the hang of it herself since she was around 12 at the time. But in the Remake, the screen is just black. Like, she's literally incapable of solving this on her own, making her desperate cries a bit more believable. Admittedly, that's rather minor compared to the whole "2 screens" meta but still, credit where credit's due.

    So the explanation for what happened is essentially Akane died 9 years ago, but the morphogenetic field allowed her to access a time paradox in which she was constantly being saved every timeline by the actions of Junpei in the second nonary games. She was looking through Junpei's eyes to find a good ending to save herself, everytime it fails, she tries again to communicate with an altered future until she suceeds. The Akane we see in the future is from a fulfilled timeline of the true ending and that's why she exists. Young Akane has to fulfill her destiny by using communication with the future to save herself(which she does because she is alive in the 2nd nonary games). And the reason why she survives the burning is because she fulfilled her destiny every constant flow of timeline. That's also why she had to become Zero, otherwise the 2nd nonary games wouldn't have happened and the timelines would become her death by fire and everyone in the future living normally. The only thing that doesn't make sense are Seven and Snake's memories of the wrong timeline of her being burned.

    • @sumanamajee2848
      @sumanamajee2848 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes if in that timeline akane lived why they keep telling akane was the only who died. I guess somehow they got into a paradox timeline.

    • @sephiresifrid
      @sephiresifrid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      hi this is 10 mos late. I cannot remember if it was in the ds ending version but in the remastered, by the end of the game while everyone is in the car at the nevada desert, Junpei implied that Seven might have been lying about his memories and that Akane did survive while Snake only assumed that Akane died cause he is blind. Junpei never really got to ask that as the the game ends there. The most acceptable reasoning would be that, while in the incinerator, Seven got a headache which might have been caused by the altering of memories as the history of Akane dying collapses and changed into a timeline where she survives. I'm guessing the author left it hanging for us to figure it out on our own cause it kinda relates to the Schrodinger's Cat Theory.

      Bruh she couldn't be saved bc she's not a receiver

    • @Cyzure
      @Cyzure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@sephiresifrid I think she never did die in the first Nonary game. In addition to Seven lying, Snake was told by Zero not to discuss what happened during the 1st Nonary game, so him lying about Akane dying is perfectly in line with not speaking about what happened, that being the time thing of her being saved via Junpei.
      A possibility to add on to that is that; she died in other timelines but memories from those timelines shouldn't be in Snake and Seven's memories, unless Akane and or Junpei is/are so gifted that by making Junpei believe young Akane to be dead created such a strong change in the morphogenetic field so much so that it caused Seven and Snake to remember her as dead, overwriting their own memories, from the morphogenic field influence.
      Kind of like the handstand example where if someone has strong telepathic powers, you will want to do a handstand as well, so by making Junpei believe she is dead, the collective consciousness was rewritten. Just like with Ice-9, just like with the crystals in the cleaning agents, once the change occurred it cannot change back, and the phenomena happens globally or in this case globally is in the 9 participants. Once jumpy believed her dead, they all did, it retroactively affecting memories. It's not quite so far-fetched if Akane/Junpei are strong enough to link together 9 years through time. The morphogenetic field became so strong that they no longer remembered their own memories but the memories collectively shared, fed to them by/from the field.
      So they affected not just the subconscious of mankind but their memory, telepathic brainwash. Possibly.

    By the way, I actually do suffer from a form of prosopagnosia, and they got a few details horribly-wrong in their portrayal in the game. One of the most glaringly-obvious of these is the fact that people with face blindness distinguish others by other features, like clothes and hair. Even if he bought Junpei's lie about swapping clothes with Santa, a real person with face blindness would say, "But you two have completely different hair; there's no way you could have swapped places." Maybe the fact that this takes place in Japan covers up such a mistake, and that it's common knowledge for 20+year-old dudes to have white hair, and be confused with someone with brown hair...

I could see not being able to tell the difference between two people that I barely know and have only met once or twice looking as they currently do. It's actually incredibly interesting, I only got a diagnosis this year (I'm 19) but before that I mostly coped by recognizing clothes/jewelry/tattoos, voices, and hairstyles so I wasn't aware that it wasn't normal to walk around feeling like strangers know me but I don't know any of them. This is just my opinion, but I assume that at the very start, the first timeline split off into which Young Akane either solved the puzzle or she didn't. The Young Akane that solved the puzzle got to live, but she wanted to save her other self from dying as well, so she thought of a way to use the only other person she could transmit to, Junpei, and then transmitted the information to the Akane that didn't solve the puzzle. Then she explained her plan to Aoi and he, of course, assisted her. Zero Akane and Aoi jumped to the other timeline, explained the situation to Seven who agreed to help after Zero Akane most likely revealed her identity to him(Seven and Snake's memories and Seven's memory loss were true, but only Seven was told by Zero Akane about how her past self could be saved, which he only remembered over time, and I assume Zero Akane told him about impairing his memory only temporarily, as it would ruin her plan, and Seven most likely trusted her on it after realizing that she was really alive somehow), made the preparations for the second Nonary game and kidnapped everyone, and that was when the events of 999 started, and all the bad ending timelines are just timelines within the timeline when Young Akane failed to solve the puzzle, and Zero Akane just used the information from those failed timelines to make sure Young Akane would succeed in another timeline. After Zero Akane finally succeeded at making sure the other Young Akane survived, she and Aoi went back to their own timeline, only to find out that she had created a time paradox, where another alternate Zero Akane used another alternate Junpei to save another alternate Young Akane who died in the incineration room throughout different timelines, over and over again, forever. I still don't know how "Alice" is there at the end, but I'm just assuming that everything the characters said regarding her being frozen but still living is true.

      Good explaining. You seem to have some knowledge about this topic.
      I wonder if Akane could be considered extremely self-serving and egoistic when she kindnapped all those people for her own gains. Potentially sacrifying innocent people to make them rescue her in the past. Many timelines went off with multiple deaths. It isn't the most altruistic stance Akane took. In this context, could she even be considered...evil?
      Also, why is Santa holding a gun to Akane's head in the end? Weren't they considered partners? Why did Akane (and partners) kidnap the evil guys as well? Did she really plan to make multiple timelines happen, in which one eventually went according to her plan (like the evil dude explained, he was manipulated to kill the other bad guys). So there are multiple timelines in which she made Junpei die...right?

      The "true" timeline is what happened in reality. After she was kidnapped, Akane connected to Junpei in the timeline wherein she survives the incinerator, in order to get him to send her the solution in the past, so as to avoid temporal paradox. The "true" ending corresponds to the true timeline, the one in which The Second Nonary Game takes place. The Second Nonary Game was set up for several reasons, one being to punish the surviving members of Cradle Pharmaceuticals (including the CEO, ofc), and to actualize the timeline in which Akane solves the final puzzle.

      I know it's confusing but in VLR (the second game) they introduce Shrodinger's cat and how both 999's and VLR's nonary games are both based arounf Shrodinger's cat. But the reason why June was even with them in the game wasn't because she was a ghost, the reason was because she is both dead and alive, the incinerator where she's trapped in became a Shrodinger's cat situation. I found this in a youtube comment section after having played VLR and it just blew me away

    • @gotinogaden
      @gotinogaden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@neil4542 That's a great point, and Schrodinger's Cat is the only sensible way to provide an explanation for June's presence. It is easy to justify her presence in the "true" timeline (because that's the only timeline in which she is practically alive, and able to complete the Second Nonary Game successfully, otherwise there are a great many endings in which she and/or everyone else dies at Ace's hand). Nowhere is this more evident than in the Submarine ending, in which she literally disappears (along with the blood stains from her wounds) because she had never existed at that point. And if the "true" timeline is the only alternative future in which she lives, then the other timelines have to "collapse" in some way, since she couldn't have organized the Second Nonary Game in them unless Junpei succeeded (which he fails to do in every other timeline).

    • @neil4542
      @neil4542 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@gotinogaden Although I still havent quite figured out the submarine ending yet to be honest... Because I am watching a playthrough and the let's players (Theyre called the nyancaved btw theyre hilarious) they got that ending in the playthrough and I noticed some stuff that didn't make sense to me.
      1. Ace was "dead", of course we don't know if he was faking it or not since Seven didn't check his vitals only Clover's.
      2. And although majority of the evidence points to Ace being the murderer in the submarine ending (the knife, lotus' bracelet missing etc.), Akane is extremely suspicious as well, first of all her body or "non-existing" body at that point was in the submarine room, somewhere that was locked and had no possible way to enter, and the most damning of all, when she "dies" we get a close up of her hand with her bracelet still on and Junpei does not mention if the bracelet had come off in any way. I doubt she would actually kill anyone since duh she's akane
      3. The only other suspect would be Santa, he in the same way as Ace, could have faked being dead and since he knew they would not be reaching the true timeline he decided to kill everyone off, but in my opinion it just doesn't seem likely

    Comment: Timelines that lead to bad endings have June getting a fever that eventually kills her. It's the incinerator burning her in the past.
    comment: Young Akane is in constant contact with Junpei, all the puzzles happen on the bottom screen. Junpei's POV is the top screen, and Young Akane's POV is the bottom screen.
    me: The final puzzle, where you have to literally hold the DS upside down. The whole time, Akane's been sending you the answers to the ship's puzzles. Of course, you're holding the DS upright. But this time, you're sending her the sudoku puzzle's answer. This time, you're holding it upside down.

    • @plhearn
      @plhearn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      We can deduce who the killer is here by process of elimination. It can't be seven or lotus because they were with you the whole time. It can't be akane because she was with you when seven and lotus are killed. So it has to be one of the three people you find dead in the hallway and one of them was pretending to be dead. We know its not Clover because you check her and it says she doesn't have a pulse. That leaves Santa and Ace. After what we know from the true ending, Ace has a motive to kill you while Santa has a motive to keep everyone alive. So it was probably Ace.

    • @MiguelRPD
      @MiguelRPD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Basically June was able to foresee the different possible timelines in her future. Because in ONE of those timelines she DOES solve the puzzle and live. After playing this game again I realized that Seven, Lotus, and Snake are likely in league with Zero (Akane and Aoi). They all have certain orders to follow and doors they have to go through.
    Seven's amnesia, is so perfectly timed to keep Junpei in the dark and reveal to him when he's close enough to the finish line. And a "bodyguard" to protect them from Ace.
    Lotus's computer skills to organize the technology and upgrades in the new Nonary Game. And her unlocking the puzzle at the lab while reminding Junpei about prosopagnosia and the morphogenic field. She also fixed the REDs at the hospital room. She may also be the one to close the freezer so June and Santa can explain Ice 9 to Junpei.
    Snake definitely did not get gassed and stripped by Zero in a small room. He GAVE his clothes to Zero and have others open the doors all the way to the coffin (they don't have bombs in them so they can pass the doors with one person).
    Clover may be in the league with Zero too, to explain how to use the morphogenic field to Junpei so he can use it later. And to insure Junpei to go to the "right" path, she'd kill him to reset Junpei's consciousness (we never saw her actually kill the others on screen). Then again, the method is a little extreme, so Clover may or may not just be a loose cannon kept in the dark like Junpei.
    Since Seven saved Snake, Akane, Aoi, and Lotus's daughter 9 years ago, it'd make sense for all of them to help Akane with the new Nonary Game and to get revenge on Ace and his co-workers. And to make sure young Akane survives to become Zero.

    My only issue is name of one of the ship. Titanic younger sister ship was Britannic. Maybe not canon name for the game. But the ship did go down in similar way

    What makes the PC version so frustrating is that they completely botched the dual screen twist, which was one of the most impactful narrative moments in all of video games.
    But the PC version improved the graphics, and made so many huge gameplay quality of life improvements like way faster text, picking up at any branch path, and removing the "mandatory guide" aspect of getting the different endings.
    But in the end, I'd have to recommend that first time players skip the PC version and do the DS version, text frustrations and all.

    I lost my save file half way through the game. I'm probably not going to redo the game
