  • The Marlin 1894C came from the factory with a slew of problems, but Wild West Guns of Anchorage, Alaska knows how to remedy them.

    Love how he shows the trigger flop that’s been fixed with some trigger flop. Makes sense. The original marlin 2 piece is under spring tension as well

    I just picked up an 1895sbl last week. Absolutely love the gun. Was happy to see remington doing better about the issues they had.

    My Marlin 1895 CBA 45-70 18.5 “ barrel 6+1 has the normal size lever and after using a little Ballistol gun oil and using and racking the lever while shooting at the range my knuckles do not get bruised or even slightly hurt at all. In fact my normal size lever is much quicker than this big loop lever. I am not saying like the more sturdy extractor perhaps may not last a little longer but my 2019 Marlin 1895 operates fantastically just as it came from the Remington owned Marlin lever gun manufacturing facility in Illion, N.Y. Remington makes Marlin lever guns with the same quality, function, fit, and finish if not better than JM Marlin ever did!! I believe Ruger has assumed Marlin now. I am so glad I purchased my Marlin 1895 Cowboy Action lever gun when Remington was making them. If I ever had a question Remington was very cordial and always immediately ready and willing to do whatever the customer wanted for free!! Also my sights were center bullseye right out of the box at 50 feet. All you need on a real Marlin lever gun is the semi buckhorn rear, and the regular brass beaded sight up front. With these sights you can easily hit your mark up to 300 yards with pin point accuracy!!

    All worthwhile upgrades, but as many have said. You could have done the majority yourself. As for an action job. I cycled my 1895 Guide gun about 1000 times. Its slick as butter now.
    Very enjoyable video. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

      I agree, I’ve owned about 5 Marlins (one JM and 4 Remlins). After watching Tombstone or any Clint Eastwood western; I just lubed the action up and cycled it throughout the entire movie. It’s All Good! Peace Be To Journey!

      I agree with both of you my Remington made 1895 lever gun was rather stiff at first but with much use it is very smooth!! People make a mistake sanding and polishing the innards on their Marlin!! Big mistake!! The Golden Rule is always just to use it, use it, use it, and all the beautiful individual parts on your wonderful Remington made Marlin lever gun will marry each other perfectly!! Once you sand, polish, or even grind, parts as some have done they live to regret it because once you have removed to much material you cannot get it back!!

    I did most of the work myself, I did buy the trigger, and mine is about 2 and 3/4 now which is amazing, but mine is a 45-70 and an 1895, though I had to grind off tons of burrs, major sharp edges, polished, and ground the over size hammer, polished the ejector will get theirs when mine fails or will get it, and keep it for when it fails, planning on getting other stuff done, but what I guess I wanted to touch on is that gap every one complains about, that gap is required or you will crack your stock the gap is meant to prevent the receiver from slamming into the wood, which the wood can handle for a while, but if it hits that edge all the time it will crack. a slight gap is life, without it you might as well plan to buy stocks constantly those edges are not very thick. It was news to me too, so don't feel to bad, as long as the fore end is fitted, and your bolt is fitted your good. I need to get a few more things done planning in the future to get their 457 conversion. Though seeing yours gives me confidence they know what they are doing. So thanks for the info it was great to hear, and knowing the ejector is good I might get one sooner than later.

    Looks good. I think I’ll see about sending in my 336y. I’ve got a bit of a mobility issue and that lever looks like it can really help.

    Might want to keep in mind that this was over 6 years ago. Much has changed at Marlin since then. The trigger slop? Put your finger on the trigger and it goes away. A squeeze later it goes "bang." Always been there and never been a problem. Henry's? Tell me how easy it is to top off while on the run.

  • @ngzcaz
    @ngzcaz 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well.. no one's getting an answer as to approx cost of some of their mods but what I'd like to comment on is the nice wood on this gun. Really, really nice especially if this is one of the newer models that some are complaining about. As nice as anyone Marlin or Winchester I've seen.

    I recently picked up a new Marlin 1894 in 357. Ten years ago the Remlins were not very good quality exactly like you mention in the video. I bought a 2010 model 336SS that was terrible. However now in 2020 I have been a lot more pleased with this newer Marlin. The wood fit and finish is much better than in 2010. I like the large loop lever. I just don't know why the large loops are so much more expensive for the Marlins than the Henry's. Over twice the price!

    I just checked my Marlin 1895 for trigger slop after hearing you mention it on this vid. Sure enough, slop. I don't notice when I shoot it though. It is a good light pull, kinda surprises me when it fires. I shot a standing 3 inch group of five at 50 yards today after practicing ten shots and getting the aim point. My only point, sloppy triggers yes, but my Marlin shoots fine without any fine tuning needed.

    Just curious if they did anything about the loading gate. On mine the loading gate spring is so heavy it really makes your fingers sore to load 10 shells in it. While a lot of improvements could be made, I love that little Marlin. I like the looks of yours.

    i do have a question, your rifle seems to have a ghost sight/rail combo. ive searched for ghost sights for my older 336 30-30 but i only get the ones that wont allow for the full receiver rail top. is that also from wild west, or is that something you bought yourself?

  • @IMSHOOTNSTR8

    I just bought a 336 and it doesn't have any of those issues, the trigger breakes like glass but it does have that anoying wiggle. For a brush gun though, it really doesn't matter.

    I have a Remington made 1984 cs 38/357 and lumber is great !!!! But action was so bad !! Replaced trigger with wild west happy trigger and polished all internals after watching you tube video along with wild west big loop lever ##**^^# bingo just a touch over 3lb trigger pull and smooth as butter o yah also put a really nice Skinner rear peep and front fiber optics front sight to help my old eyes may not be a Jm but damn nice.

    • @gpsontime4598
      @gpsontime4598 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Belwood I purchased a JM:REM transition 1984 .357 NIB (they were impossible to find) ser# 91xxxxxx. Why not a used pre-REM? I didn't want the Microgroove. The wood and bluing were fine, but the internals were horrible. I installed the Wild West trigger, huge improvement. But, I had to completely disassemble and using a jewelers file and loupe take metal off to remove all the tool marks, finishing with a ceramic stone and superfine grit paper. I also had a Dremel with polishing felt and compound. The difference in the action was like night and day and it cycles fine. I added the Wilson FP sights (uncalibrated clicks for elevation/windage) and the Fire Sight up front. The only other change I would make is adding the loop lever as I have very large hands. My barrel is now stamped with both JM and REM (the gun went in for inspection to Ilion and they added the REM stamp and stole my original box) . . . there was some really bad blood created between Remington and Marlin . . . it was a terrible transition from Hartford to Ilion, that is for sure. I heard the old tooling is worn out and the CNC milling transition created the shortage. CZ had the same problems in Quality Control in transitioning to CNC with the Dan Wesson revolvers.

    D.C. Gunsmith. My information tells me that the Marlin company was bought out lock, stock and barel by Remington a while ago. The newer Marlins are made by Remington now under the Marlin Name. They are now being called "REMLINS". They are in no case as well made as the Good Old Marlin Company's Production. Thje Remington made Marlins are nothing but trouble! If you buy a Marlin buy a pre-08 or ealyer model. Preferably with the JM mark on the barel near the receiver. Those in good condition will last you a lifetime!!!!
