I live in Metro Detroit and have my entire life. I’m convinced that this year we made a blood sacrifice of the Pistons in order to make the Lions contenders
Brandon Jennings was progressing in Detroit. He was picking up his play all around until the career ending injury. He deserves more credit and that injury was bigger than people acknowledge
Ya. BJ should've been a top 5 pg in the era. He was special. That injury just killed it. They were starting to get better and they had cap space, then, poof.
As a pistons fan, let me be very clear and stating that you’re 1 hour and 51 minutes of this deep dive meant more to me than we can be explained. It brought me back to all the years of errors they got us exactly to where we are today. Thank you for the painstaking detail that you put into this video. All the hours that you put into creating this was absolutely worth it. I don’t even log into my TH-cam account because I hate the suggestions! I mean look at the bulls. The absolutely standard of winning in the history of the modern nba IMO. You have terrible management and they make terrible decisions. It really isn’t too complicated, like any other business if the decision makers are awful you’ll get results
It started with Joe Dumars... he made panic moves and got fired Down hill from there... when people make panic decisions regarding present absent the future... it generally doesn't go well
That's crazy now that i think about, that trade of Billups-Iverson was really the catalyst for the Pistons downfall. Ever since the trade, the Pistons have never regained there elite status
The Austin Daye draft was a bad spot. One note, I totally forgot about Kuester as a coach. The reason he benched those 7 players wasn't because they were late. It's because they were intentionally missing shootaround as a protest against him as coach. The shocking thing is it was the veterans on the team who organized it. you'd think it would be the young guys. But guys like Rip and Tayshaun doing it was definitely not a good look for anyone.

It's more on the management for sure. Obviously in some cases you have bad mixes of talent and execution of said talent. Or even personality issues. But it's mainly on the organization to maximize the talent and obviously with the Pistons never tanking, the probability of that talent growing the way they want will be minimal. The NBA has shown that you HAVE to tank to rebuild as the Pistons drafting 8th every year resulted in more than a decade of 30-53 seasons. Great video!
idk whats more impressive, the good documentary or the 2 hour highlight reel of the pistons, with a team like that i wouldnt even think of going through all those games to get that
That 1st round pick they've traded to the Clippers to acquire Blake Griffin turned out to be the 12th overall pick and with it the Clippers selected Miles Bridges...who was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for their 11th overall pick in the draft - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This is important as the next offseason the Clippers traded SGA, Danilo Gallinari, 5 1st round picks (4 of them unprotected) and 2 pick swaps to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Paul George. Michael Porter Jr. was drafted 14th overall by the Nuggets while the Bucks selected Donte DiVincenzo 17th overall. All players Detroit could've picked had they kept their pick instead of trading it for a player on an absurdly large contract and with well documented injury record.
Those players all could’ve been much better, but then I wonder if the staff would’ve been able to properly develop those players. I’m a nuggets fan and I think Detroit would’ve given up on MPJ due to his injury issues
Alvini I’d love to see you take a look at the Celtics in the 1990s-2000s, maybe following Larry Bird’s retirement and ending at KG and Ray Allen’s arrival
The current state of broncos football is starting to remind me of Detroit basketball (with the lions and the nuggets as the counterparts in that analogy)
Watching the pistons is truly hard to watch 2-28 on a record breaking pace the only people to blame is management. They can’t draft, can’t get free agents, and can’t get a player development coach it’s just sad.
The pistons could have been a dynasty far long after the early 2000’s. Just some teams can’t play their cards right. The infinite rebuild shoulda ended long ago but bad officiating and trades got em here :( disappointing
Considering all of this research I put into making this. Yeah there were many ways the Pistons and Joe Dumars in particular doomed them in the beginning. Many great prospects they missed out on because they didn’t want to tank. And then they messed it up more by not developing any talent outside of Drummond (if you consider him developed talent)
@@Alvini_Linguine Drummond was a fantastic player and as a Bulls fan I will not tolerate any slander of that guy. Dude can still be a starter on some teams even now.
I remember I was 10 when the pistons beat the lakers. I’m from Alabama so no NBA team here but That team made me a fan. I wish we could get back to greatness. We got some nice pieces but it just ain’t working 😢
If I was the Detroit Pistons owner. I would have made Chauncey Billups the head coach when he came back as a player at 37. Pay them to retire and he would have been the head coach
20:50 The look on Brandon Knight's face when they called his name for Detroit. That represents how much we enjoyed his play in Detroit. I was almost happy when DeAndre Jordan sent in a coffin to the skies.
Biggest mistake with this team. Not taking Melo in 2003!!! Pistons probably have 3 chips from that era and still wouldve had a young Melo to build around as the future

Diehard Pistons fan and I think Joe Dumars gets too much blame for their downfall. Previous owner Bill Davidson died and that started the chain reaction. When Gores came in he wanted to make an immediate impact and rush it along. Ownership also wanted the coaches fired instead of Dumars.
15 years? That's nothing I'm a Knicks fan it been 51 years. I wasn't in live in 1973 so I've never seen my team win. Pistons have won 3 in my lifetime.
In 2003 the pistons could of drafted d wade, Melo or Chris Bosh. Instead they draft Darco M. That is were really put a dent in the pistons franchise going forward.
I'm a Celtics fan. Post-Bird retirement until the Big 3 were some lean years. Yeah, a couple playoff appearances with Pierce and Walker, but every year was a disappointment since Bird left and Reggie Lewis died. So I def know what Piston fans are feeling.
In my mind Detroit is supposed to be one of the “it” teams in the league. I remember believing Lebron couldn’t beat them. Just feels like they shouldn’t ever be as bad as they end up being.
i honestly think people put way too much of the blame on the players. every team plays their own brand of ball and it’s obvious detroit lacks one. pretty embarrassing from a front office standpoint.
Outside of that playoff team with Blake. The Pistons never had much of an identity. Nowadays it’s magnified with interesting coaching and young players feeling their way out in the league.
Imagine playing the best you can to win a Game. Individually u only can control what you do. And lose 26 straight when u trying. I feel for the young guys on the team not the veterans. They should lead them to a win. No excuses. But the NBA is not easy to win. People don't realize how hard it is to win one game.

People forget that Blake Griffen was HIM on the pistons
Can you do a video on the post MJ Bulls (1998-Present)?
Uhhhh…..Imma need to see this video do amazing before I do a timeline that long 😭. Post Rose I’d be more open to though 🥲
Brandon Knight getting drafted looks like he’s at a funeral😂 Dude legitimately didn’t even look slightly happy
Would you
I'm a Celtics fan. Post-Bird retirement until the Big 3 were some lean years. Yeah, a couple playoff appearances with Pierce and Walker, but every year was a disappointment since Bird left and Reggie Lewis died. So I def know what Piston fans are feeling.
Some Detroit fan in 2004 made a deal with the devil to win it all against the Lakers for the next 20-30 years of suffering.
In my mind Detroit is supposed to be one of the “it” teams in the league. I remember believing Lebron couldn’t beat them.
Just feels like they shouldn’t ever be as bad as they end up being.
Fire vid!! even if it’s about my trash ass pistons and u didn’t even include the darko draft… it wasn’t needed 😂 you gotta new subscriber man 🤝💯
Thank you. Hope you enjoy my other works 🫡
It be nice to see the Pistons break the record. And even get like up to 35 loses ina row
i honestly think people put way too much of the blame on the players. every team plays their own brand of ball and it’s obvious detroit lacks one. pretty embarrassing from a front office standpoint.
Outside of that playoff team with Blake. The Pistons never had much of an identity. Nowadays it’s magnified with interesting coaching and young players feeling their way out in the league.
Your vids are goated
The Pistons are so down bad they might as well sign me to a 10 day contract 💀
My comment is the perfect addition in your subtitle:
SINCE CHAUNCEY BILLUPS DEPARTURE
Man I miss Jalen & Jacoby 😭
Idk when ima watch this but I will
nothing compares to being bored asl and opening youtube to a hour+ nba video essay
Imagine playing the best you can to win a Game. Individually u only can control what you do. And lose 26 straight when u trying. I feel for the young guys on the team not the veterans. They should lead them to a win. No excuses. But the NBA is not easy to win. People don't realize how hard it is to win one game.
Great effort
