2015 Bengals-Steelers playoff game deserves a seperate video from you to be studied from. That game still remains one of the most physically chaotic games I've ever witnessed in my life
"I could spend a hour talking about Paul Brown" You know if you did no one in the universe would get mad and would welcome it. Seriously though, another outstanding video. Tubfrog is truly one of the best YTers in the business. Keep up the great work!!!
The 1990s were insane, how they went from contenders to the bottom of the standings almost overnight. But there were some really good players on their rosters. Jeff Blake was able to keep them in games most weeks for several years. Carl Pickens was very good. And of course Corey Dillon. Come 2005 they finally put something together only for Palmer to go down immediately in the home divisional. In 2009 they wet the bed again. The 2011-13 drafts looked like they were onto something again. And it’s just a cycle of the same thing every 3-5 years since 1990. I can’t rip on them for drafting David Klingler in 1992. He looked like the real deal. Drafting Akili Smith and turning down an insane trade package to draft him was one of the most preventable draft disasters in NFL history.
When people tell me that Zac Taylor is a good coach, I actually feel gaslit. Like, how can you tell me that all of this wasted talent during the Taylor-Burrow era has resulted in only 2 playoff appearances?
It shocks me that the Bengals have such a good eye for talent. I am a little jealous as a Raider fan, because even with draft picks and opportunity the Raiders always go with the wrong guy. I mean except for C. Wood, K. Mack, and, B. Bowers. Most likely the Raiders will draft a J. Russell type player.
Just like the Bengals they hit on a handful but miss more than they hit on. There have been a lot of horrible misses. David Klinger, ki jana carter, akili smith just to name some top 10 draft picks that missed. Grant it the Bengals have done better with their top 10 picks then the Raiders. But some of their misses wasn't their fault. Like Jamarcus Russell everyone had him at number 1. Darrius Heyward-bey was a head scratcher though 😂😂
Tubfrog, so many times you have trashed my Bengals constantly, and frankly it is a bit deserved (it happens when ego, greed, or some sort of other sin prevents a person with power from making the right decision for the time, and the organization suffered because of it). Hell, there are times I hated your guts and laughed at your pain with how bad your Raiders sucked since the Tuck Rule Game. (Believe me, I know the pain--I have learned of the Bungles years and Marvin when he should had been fired so much earlier). But I truly enjoy your work with how you cover the franchises that are currently pathetic or were pathetic but recently turned around for the better. So I'm really glad you finally did one on my team.
Me, a 49er fan who knows the lore behind Walsh and the 80s dynasty. Was talking to this old guy awhile back about this and he agreed letting Walsh walk was the worst thing the Bengals could’ve done
Can I just say, as someone who just recently started following the NFL and college football, these video essays have been a GODSEND! My family was not a football household, so it just wasn’t something I ever grew up around. But working at a sports bar has compelled me to learn. I love video essays (the longer the better), so watching yours has been so helpful! I can’t wait to dive into this one. I love me some Joe Burrow!
I was in middle school during the 92-94 seasons. Klingler and Wilkinson were amazing in college. Their 1995 Carter pick, the guy averaged 7.9 ypc in the Big Ten Conference. Carter got hurt tbf. But Klingler and Wilkinson, who had his moments, were true busts. And their 1999 pick, Akili Smith may be their biggest bust to date.
I maintain that if Jeremy Hill hadn’t fumbled the ball or if Vontaz given A.B. permanent CTE, I maintain the Bengals would have not only advance to the second round, they would have gone to the Super Bowl. It sounds insane, but with considering the talent on both offense and defense, plus a retuning Andy Dolton, it was possible.
No way. Not with AJ McCarren at QB. They would have lost to NE or Denver. They would have needed to beat both of those teams on the road to get to the Super Bowl. The season was lost for the Bengals when Dalton went down when he was playing the best football of his career
Mike Brown is the problem. He's old and stuck in his ways. He's nostalgic for his dads (paul brown) era. He runs the team the way he watched his dad run the Browns and Bengals when mike was a child. The problem with emulating one of the greatess coaches of all time? Welp the NFL has changed and its a billion dollar business now. Aslo Paul Brown was a football genuis and Mike isnt that
@@instantactionz4284why have a defense when you can just score a touchdown every drive and beat your opponent 56-49? Also, now that Lou is starting to play the young guys, the defense can stop a cold
As a Bengals fan, I can tell you it was very frustrating, miserable and very hard watching this entire video. Bengals fans like me has just been through so much pain, suffering, devastation all in one for years and decades that it's not even funny. I'm 20 years old and have been a Bengals fan since 2007 when I was 3 years old. 2021 was the first ever time I seen my squad win a damn playoff game and I was still in my junior year of high school that year in the 11th grade
It's even worse about the draft with akili smith. The bengals refused saints coach Mike ditka's offer to give them nine draft picks in exchange for the first round pick to get Ricky Williams. So they could have gotten a bunch of other good players that year and the following years and instead only got a mediocre quarterback.
Always loved the Bengals' uni's. Sharp. As a Bills fan, I was a big fan of Andy Dalton, especially for one night..when he helped put us in the playoffs for the first time in almost two decades. I even contributed a little bit of money to his charity as a result..😅 Joe Burrow just needs a defense really, and the Bengals will again be top tier AFC threats.
“I’m asking you bengals fans to stay mentally strong.” Dude my first memory is the bengals 1989 Super Bowl. Many fans know of suffering through bad years, I grew up in them. Recapping it will just bring back Vietnam flashbacks
There's not much more to this franchise than those 2 guys you mentioned. Cory Dillon was good, but he seemed evil. That's what Cincy goes for. They got bad juju for decades on ice.
A video in this style for the Vikings would be hilarious. I mean you would have some of the best NFL teams in league history being wasted, the worst trade in NFL history, and a lot of controversies. Also the Vikings just being surprisingly good with random QBs(Sam Darnald fits the bill).
You know things are bad in a city when you don’t even go over the fact they gave their players reused jock straps, didn’t have any food in their cafeteria. Marvin Lewis did a lot for that franchise but even still, they have less than 10 people in their scouting department and no true GM with GM powers. They’re the only franchise owned by a singular owner whose revenue is exclusively the NFL, which explains why they only make choices when the fans stop showing up.
You are a true NFL historian my man. I like to consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to post 1970 NFL events. Never knew about this Paul Brown and Bill Walsh business. The older I get the more I believe in things like karma. If it’s true that Paul Brown was such a bastard, well, the history of this team begins to take focus.
I have watched 2 of the Super Bowl losses, the first one I was really young and it really broke my heart but I have stuck with my team though the highs and lows. I pray that they put the pieces together and get 1 superbowl win in my life time.
I love the deep dives TubFrog but all I heard the past 4 years is how much Burrow “changed the organization” now all of a sudden they are failing him 🤔
Perfect timing. I have to kill a couple hours so I can speed run today's games on youtubetv and skip all the bs. 50 minutes long games with no commercials are great.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself 😭😅

You said it, brother. I've enjoyed all the other team's videos, it's only fair to take our lumps as well.

Utree did a decent summary of it from at the time. Total collapse
Whos here after that stressful overtime clutch?
Fire Zac now.
I started this video during the game and I'm finishing it after haha.

If we make the playoffs and go on a run again, it’s only because no one believed in us

I’m both super excited and terrified to watch a Tubfrog video about my favorite team. Thanks Tubfrog

I'd be estactic to see ZT canned but to your point, Burrow was injured quite a bit too.
Any other owner would have long since fired him. Marvin Lewis got like 15 years lol
Keep ‘em coming man. These really get me through the day
It’s a good day when tubfrog uploads
As a Ravens fan i know where the next 1:43:01 of happiness is coming from
Art is now the only thing Browns and Bengals fans have in common. Mutual Hatred of one man.

They can't put an Oline together to save burrows life. Good at drafting wideouts, though
The Rogue One intro of Bill Walsh was hilarious and genius at the same time! Love the content bro!

Thanks big tub, as a bengals fan it brings me joy to know we are and always will be not that great
Really cool you were able to talk about Cody Rhodes in a NFL for so long. Bless your soul Tubfrog.
Glad you talked about Cook. Bill Walsh and Sam Wyche always said he could've been one of the best ever
Been a Bengals fan since I was seven and I've been waiting for your hour+ long video trashing us and I'm not disappointed.
We gotta get a bucs video next. Cool to see the ride from 2 historically historic seasons to 2 super bowls in less then 25 years
THANK YOU TUB FROG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
The fact that the Bengles STILL haven't payed Jamar Chase despite all he's done is just Maddening

I do love these mini-docs on the failures of other teams.
Can't ask for one on my own, as I already have a 7 hour one on that. Skol Vikings.

I am a fairly new Bengals fan and I have to say. I feel like this season is the unluckiest season of any team in any season in the NFL ever.
Bro u about to learn yall been unlucky since yall formed the team this organization is cursed just like the browns
In all fairness to you most bengals fans are new
I mean, there have been a few seasons where teams had one or more members die or get sent to prison for killing someone.

DROPPING ONE MORE BANGER TO CLOSE OUT 2024, LFG.
To be fair Anderson played against the Steel curtain dynasty and Boomer couldn't get by the 49ers dynasty.
Finally someone is going to talk about Marvin Lewis

I love the video, but you really didn’t have a lot of 70’s era pics. The Bengals didn’t adopt the characteristic stripes until 1981.
My favorite part of these videos is when the Brady picture falls off the wall no matter how much tape he puts around it it still finds a way.
