i drive a 308 Stationwagon, i have to say this is by far the best car (under the same category) that i have driven. The 1.2l engine behaves like its 1.6-1.8l. its responsive, easy to drive and all the mis-perception about French cars are just myths.. For me, Peugoet is really a hidden gem.
I agree to a very large degree. I've got a petrol auto 68 plate 308. I found the power is good too, fuel consumption is pretty good when driving around town but the engine is working too hard on long runs so never gets to cruise, and so tends to have comparatively quite poor fuel consumption. I am getting about 48 on a run and thats by not going over 65mph. I had a 2017 Audi A4 petrol 2 litre, that could manage 58 mpg if driven on a run at the same speed. The auto gearbox doesn't declutch when you take your foot off the gas like my audi and so you are having to drive the car down hill against the gearbox. Admittedly we are comparing a car twice the cost so for the money the 308 is a great buy, that sunroof is superb too
@@michaelstimpson1137 I am not really an expert on cars or automatic gearboxes. But if Audi declutches it means that there's no engine braking so basically you are running the engine on petrol (thus it uses fuel) while neutral/declutched. If your Peudeot doesn't declutch then you get 0 emissions while going downhill and get the engine break. I don't really know how it works on those cars but I know it goes like this: car in neutral will use fuel to run the engine but car going downhill on a gear does not consume any fuel.
Very positive and well executed review. It will be interesting to see how the pricing of this model compares with the likes of the golf, etc. I am certainly a fan of the looks, both exterior and interior. Don’t understand why you don’t have more subscribers to your great channel!
I drive a 308 SW GT Line 2016 model. I've had it from new, now done 76,000 miles and it hasn't missed a beat. I love the thrum from the 3 cylinder Puretech, the agility and grip. It's really good fun on a twisty B road, 130 PS & 210 Nm is plenty on British roads. The ground clearance is amazing - car parks near beaches and countryside walks can be very rough. It's a great long distance car, too. My Peugeot is a very tough car and has had no faults in six years. I also love the cruise control, the best I've used - far better than steering wheel mounted buttons. Alas, it's come to the point when I need to change and I want an all-electric car. I would love a Peugeot EV & I believe they're launching an all electric version of the 308 in 2024. However, this is a compromise because the car is designed for an I.C.E. I have a VW ID.3 on order as I feel it is great value for money and I like the drivetrain configuration but I know I will miss the agility of my Peugeot and the cockpit controls. Thanks for a very fair appraisal of the new car, I just wish Peugeot had designed a car to rival the VW ID.3 & Renault e-tech Megane as I would have been a very willing customer.
Excellent review Dave on the new Peugeot 308. I think this new car is going to give some of the upmarket brands a run for their money. If they get the price right Peugeot have a winner.
Thank you for the kind feedback, it's really appreciated! The 308 has a lot of potential, as you say, if the pricing is right this car should sell well. ^Dave
I do. I think this looks well, very well and it's a great effort but I can see it will age very quickly. The rear looks poor and the interior doesn't appear too durable. I had a Peugeot before and it was a squeaky noisy leaky unreliable affair. I do hope though it will make VW cop on and improve the Golf as the Mk 8 is a poor effort.
I have the Peugeot 308 GT Hdi looking to replace it but have not found a good hatchback to replace it. I tried the Peugeot 508 GT and it felt like a big log driving. Hoping this will be up to spec. I feel the older eat boxes are fantastic can't se that it's possible to lock it in manual (which I do quite often)....mabe you can help me there.
It would be good if you can turn off the dual zone climate control in the settings, so you don't have to scroll twice. It's the modern car feature that annoys me the most. Who sets two different temperatures for each side 🤷♂️
Nice video, is this diesel version different in the rear led lights, looks like those are not 45 degree angle like another 306. How is this car compare with the Germans, like the Audi A3
@@gilveradoriano3726 I don't agree... If you look at it as a customer, you sure want the nice looking rear lights... But if you look at it with the brand perspective, it actually makes sense... You want the customer to pay for the higher trim model. When you buy a high end vehicle, you don't want it to look the same as the cheap one, or you just end up buying the cheap one... So it makes sense that there are some different parts between the différent trims like the head and rear lights, the logos on the side of the car, etc... It makes the higher trim more desirable... The horizontal lights aren't the best, but those are not horrible, it could have been worse. I think Peugeot has done a really nice job with the new 308 regarding the lights and the overall design on every trim level. (My opinion may be a bit biased as I'm french)
@@CthulhUwU why, a Peugeot 2008 active or allure has the same rear lights than a GT line, or if you see a Audi Q3 base is the same rear tail lights as the Audi Q3RS, same for all brands, speaking of high end car, Mercedes use the same light design as Maybach, for production parts is not good for the company, it does'nt make sense at all
@@gilveradoriano3726 To answer your question, you need to look at the entire vehicle, not only the lights. If we look at the Q3 and Q3RS as you've mentioned, those have in fact a very different style. You have bigger air inlets, a different bonnet, etc... The high trim is still very recognisable from the other ones. In the case of the Maybach, you will find a different grill at the front of the car, a painting job which is weary different from a standard Mercedes, a totally different set of wheels, etc... Peugeot can't do the same thing as Audi with the Q3 or as Mercedes with the Maybach. Maybach is luxury, Audi is sport with the RS label, Peugeot is a generalist brand and the 308 is very good exemple. This is not a luxury car, and this is not a sport car, you can't change all the panels etc, you need to find something else to make the cut for the customers. You could argue that the "gt" label mean that it's the sport varient but it's not. Peugeot has a sport label which "PSE" (Peugeot Sport Engineered). If they make the gt varient a sport car, they would loose a spot in their lineup for a possible PSE labeled 308. Considering the fact that the PSE varient those not exist (at least for now), they needed to find things to change that would not ruin the possibility of creating a PSE varient in the future while maintaining the cost down as they are not perceived as luxury and need to stay priced accordingly. The head and rear lights were a very good option in my opinion.
Yes but why is it dreaded? It saves on maintaining suspension bushes on multi-link suspension set-ups, as you find in the Golf & Focus. I downsized from three, in a row, Mercedes E Class, which I was always having the tracking adjusted and still go uneven tyre wear. My little Peugeot 308 tyre life is double that of the Mercs (20k vs 10k), despite me driving it quite hard and the tyre wear is always even. The only downside to a torsion beam rear axle, is the slight creaking, which can be heard outside by not inside. They injected a foam into mine which cured it for a couple of years but then it came back. No big deal though because I never hear it from within the car.
@@pauladams5673 I have now actually driven this new 308 and it is very impressive. The ride is actually better then my Astra which also has the beam axle. Yes getting wheels inline could be more of a problem with fully independant setups. That injected foam sounds like an interesting idea for reducing noises.
In common with most modern cars it just looks too claustrophobic for my tastes. Tiny windows, A pillars that reduce view and a rear end that forces the driver to use a camera. I currently drive a Hyundai i30n and it has all the same issues. I’m looking to change and the only car that offers all around visibility is the little Honda Jazz.
Peugeot as an upper mainstream brand, was always better than poor man brand VW. Stop with these nonsense titles, and start comparing cars that actually can compare
This is a really nice looking car, Peugeot have come a long way in such short time regards styling, design and quality of build. But at €48,000 for the HYBRID4 300bhp version it is up against a lot of better cars. The Golf 204bhp hybrid is €41,100 and the fully electric Hyundai Ionic 5 Executive with a 73kw battery is only €43,000.

Just purchased the GT premium hybrid in olivine green the car looks and drives amazing.
Good choice! Enjoy it!

Im guessing this is not the GT trim. No 3D taillights and no badge on the front doors.

How was the sound system? Does the focal system compete with the German cars?

Crash safety is one of the causes/drivers of this. The Jazz does have excellent visibility too.
Looks like a golf built by Lamborghini, with a Toyota crown styled front.
