    Some people will buy this 308 purely on looks alone..It is striking especially in its Olivine Green and one such neighbour just bought one. It truly looks spectacular and turns heads continually. Enough to warrant the $72k drive away price!

    The biggest issue with Peugeots in Australia is their horrific resale value. They aren’t bad cars these days, but the cost of depreciation alone just makes them impossible to recommend. Great review, though

    • @therightcar

      Thanks mate. The 2008 and 3008 seem to be holding their value okay, but then again, that observation is based on the advertised prices, not transactional!

    I have had a 308 Gt Premium since 2022, I was lucky to get hold of one. I love the car, and I love the steering wheel. I still get people doing a double take when they realise it is a Peugeot :)

    Agree that the wagon is the pick of the 308 range...as for the PHEV? Would not even consider it. Too $$$$$, and doesn't have the cache of other marques.

    Been eyeing off the 308 for a little time now. We have a diesel C4 Citroen, which averages 5ltr per 100k & the petrol average sounds good, but then, 16k extra for the hybrid? I don’t think so.. Keep up the reviews. 🍻

    Great review, and comprehensive explanation of the good, and not so good, and the costs and great you did comparisons with other similar vehicles. Interesting car, as you say. The premium would be hard to recover throughout ownership. I’ve always loved/liked French cars and could like this one, but no, for what it is, I wouldn’t pay that much. Thanks for the review.

    I have the phev in gt hatchback form. Best car I've ever owned. It returns 5.2 l/100 km on 1000 km road trips starting with a dead battery. This includes 200 km's on the German autobahn averaging 180 km/h . Can't ask for much more if you ask me. 90% of my trips are on electricity alone. Running costs savings so far are about 70%.

      Absolute rubbish. We've had Peugeots in our family since 1957 and reliability is one of their features. The one time period when there was a problem was late 90's to very early 2000's. My present Peugeot is a 2012 308HDi (2L diesel) with 160,000 kms on the clock. No problems - should do 500,000 kms with no difficulty.
      Personally the Peugeot doesel engines would the the way I would go. I would wait a couple of years in Australia before I went electric (hybrid or full electric). In that time they may have perfected the electric engines.

    I tested the wagon a couple of days ago. Loved it, and I am a wagon guy, not SUV. I end up though getting the last one, Hybrid, full extra at 60500 offer. I am getting almost double the power and efficiency for a bit more money. So I had to sacrifice the idea of extra space and the beauty of the rear end of the wagon. Picking it up next week 😊

    I drove the 1.2 petrol GT. Am 5.11 and iCockpit was absolutely fine. Loved the cabin ambience and the motor was delightful. Full of character and plenty enough performance. The vehicle felt genuinely special. I am really interested to hear you achieved 50km plus electric range. I have read reports that 35-40 is more realistic, I would be very interested in hearing other people's experiences. I am seeing demo PHEV versions at very similar prices to the petrol so I could be persuaded.

    All cars are expensive now in 2023. It's called INFLATION. All carmakers have dramatically raised their prices, and PHEV always are most costly. I find the Peugeot 308 a stunningly beautiful car, it really looks sensational and if I had the money, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Stop dissing that car just because it's a costly one. You just can't afford it , that's why you hate it.

      @wosamosman9814 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given the ridiculous waiting lists for Toyota hybrids , seems to be quite a few people keen on the idea of a hybrid given its the realistic option for saving a bit on the fuel costs since here in Oz, we neither have the infrastructure to support EVs nor are the fuel prices cheap enough to warrant driving petrol/diesel only 😅

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a wall box, as many people do, it will shorten the charge time so a degree. You’re likely to get 3.7kW (maximum input) for that scenario, whereas a standard plug doesn’t put out 3.7kW, so it’ll charge slower.

      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve honestly questioned it myself. I’ve even asked Peugeot and Citroen directly. It’s a great powerpoint presentation “flag on the map”, I guess. And it must make some money to justify it. Businesses like these don’t persist with loss-makers.

    • @simon1430
      @simon1430 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Peugeot and Citroen are very bothered by the lack of sales in Australia, because whatever doesn't sell in Australia will be sent to other countries to be sold there. For example, if you check Peugeot Kenya's website, you will find 2019 models being sold there. It's the advantage of being part of a massive alliance network such as Stellantis which can easily ship cars and access markets around the globe. In Australia, we always get previous year models after Europe has had it's piece of the cake.
