Favourite runner if all time and drug free. A natural talent - tiny compared to the other runners which to me confirms he did not cheat. A beautiful runner to watch and humble - so refreshing.

Saw glad I got to see this. When I used to train, we always said "The Calvin Smith bend". He'll always be remembered for 3rd leg of the 4x100 at the 84 L.A. Olympics.

40 years ago. My dad and I used to watch TV together when it was athletics. He always cheered for Calvin so I did too. Amazing how fast time passes.

As a Brit I loved Calvin from time I saw him on TV break world record.
Heard him interviewed a few years ago on radio and presenter asked if he was real champion from 1988. He said well I didn't the Gold Medal, great answer.

I hasten to add in many respects he is an excellent representation of much that is good about America. Hard working, positive, seemingly wholesome and likeable

A wonderful runner, and a very kind and modest person. More: one of the very few ( or only ??...) "clean" athlete of that time... He deserved to be more " world famous ". Beside, he is the greatest "bend runner" of all time... Watch the 4 x 100 m of the Los Angeles Olympics..: the world record is thank to him only ! At that time, the first runner to become world champion in 2 consecutiv championships ( 200m : 1983 Helsinki - 1987, Roma )

I remember Calvin bursting on to the International scene at an East Germany versus USA meet in 1982 which was televised for the BBC in the UK. Over the 100 metres facing established sprinters Frank Emmelman and Olaf Prenzler he exploded from the blocks and floated away with such astonishing fluidity and lift from the track stopping the clock at 9.91 seconds and leaving everyone else trailing far behind him. This would have beaten James Hines's world record of 9.95 seconds had it not been for a following wind of +2.1m/sec. I knew from this race alone that he would take the world record some day. Such a unique and talented athlete and modest unassuming man.

Great athlete, but i hardly think linford testing positive 9 years later, 1 year after he 'retired' for something that was never really investigated fully, counts as a guilty of drugs! But hey wat do i know 🤷‍♂️
