I kept things simple and they work great. 2023 F-150 XLT 4WD with 5100's at 2" front level/0" rear, and Toyo RT's LT275/70R-18. Perfect fit and perfect performance for my needs. 50% commuting locally, 25% towing 7K travel trailer (with rear air bags), 25% off-road on forest roads and desert trails in Arizona. Dealership alignment is solid with no weird wear patterns. Other options are available for more performance, but this simple set up works really well to have a reliable half-ton truck on 33's that fits in a garage. Cheers! Pete in Arizona - KI7LIL
I've been using this setup for the last 3 yrs. The difference and the upgrade it is so much for not doing it. I have taken my truck camping through service roads, trails, rough terrain with camping gear, and the truck behave stable and trustworthy. I add an inch puck in the front and lift the rear by 2in over stuck, running 35in tires. I will buy Bilstein again, i have no reason to buy expensive shocks when i can do the same with this setup for less. Im surprise you guys just find this out.....
The spring compressor just adds time, complexity, and risk of injury. You can leave the top hat mounted on the chassis, put the top of the new shock into the top hat, put the bolt through the bottom hole of the shock and jack up the lower control arm to compress the spring to tighten the top nut.
I put 5100s on my 19 trailboss along with bilstein uca. It’s a huge difference in ride. I was intrigued by the 6112 but decided against it because of the cost. I can also attest to the sketchiness of cheap spring compressors, I’m still in one piece though 😅
Was this the full 5 clicks on the 6112s? On my 2013 yall rec only doing the 3rd or 4th setting for 1.75" lift. I was hoping to add a .5" strut spacer on top to match my 5100 2.25" lift. What do you recommend? Im currently running 325/65R18s
Depends which vehicle, F150? We’ll usually recommend only going as high as needed to clear the desired tire size, so you maintain the best ride quality possible. You could put a spacer on top of the current setup if you really need more clearance, but also consider trimming the inner fender if there’s tire rubbing
So I am waiting on my 2025 Lariat Powerboost. Do you think these are better than the Fox 2.0s? I am trying to make a decision on which ones to go with. I too am still waiting to see a video that shows the passenger front strut install for the Powerboost that no one seems to post in detail.
Fox 2.0 came in dead last comparison with the top 6 manufacturers, sadly. They even cheated and allowed Fox 2.5 in the economic shootout, still came in dead last. They're great build quality, needs custom tuning to correct their short comings. Bilstein came in 1-2 in all categories, I've been doing research for a couple of months for my 22 Ranger FX4 LARIAT Black Widow. I'm on a 3" lift, 33s. Rear is definitely rowdy stock shocks..
We have an install coming on the power boost, will dive into some details there and hopefully share here on YT or our instagram. We haven’t tested the fox on the latest F150, but hard to imagine they can be softer than these, and also handle well. Usually fox 2.0 are pretty soft, but some of the handling / composure suffers. On top of that, these Bilstein will last 2-3x as long, the Fox 2.0’s lifespan is around 50-100k miles before they start to lose damping ability.
@@ShockSurplus If you’re asking about the passenger side of a Powerboost, then it would be the ability to access the right side top strut nuts without disassembling several components of the Powerboost electrical system that is in the way.
We could assemble them yes, but freight both ways is going to run $100-150 easy, which you could pay a local shop to assemble them for most likely. We’d of course be happy to though, support@shocksurplus.com
@@SeanReyesmaybe. I wish I had the previous specs/part numbers to try to cross reference/compare and find one that would work. It’s hard to find old Bilstein catalogs for some reason.
Don’t quote me, but I believe ‘14 was the year they transitioned between front strut designs. Take a look at how your front strut bolts to your lower control arm. If it’s a single through bolt, it’s the old style and if it has the two bolt style similar to this install it’s the newer. I think as long as you match the style with either older 09-13 or newer 15+ F-150 you should be fine. Again my memory could be off but I think if you search around you’ll find that type of answer.
I have 5100's on my slightly lifted WJ and ride quality is not at all good... not what I'd expect from Bilsteins. My Gladiator with stock shocks (not a Rubicon) rides 100x better.

Just put on 5100 today got uca today just waiting on my 6112 can't wait to see the difference in the ride on my 20 trailboss
Nice, which vehicle?
2020 1500 Chevy silverado trailboss
Awesome, let us know how it goes, tag us on instagram @shocksurplus
I installed Bilstein's on my 2019 F-150. Ya 6112 1.5 lift on the front and 5100 on the back. Oh hell ya!!

Are you guys going to be doing the icon or kings with the power boost?
You should have showed the front passenger side install. That is far harder on the Powerboost due to all of the hybrid components.

Great review fellas. Do we know if this gives you most lift vs other coil overs ? Like Eibach ?
Did ford get rid of IWE's?
I don't see the vacuum hose running the hub and the cv shaft is turning
Any chance you’ll review the eibach pro 2r on the f150?
Yep, that’s coming up next, kit is ready to install on a staff’s new F150
What size tire is on this truck

could I send in my fronts to be assembled? I'm past return time through American Trucks for them but have yet to open the box.

Getting ready to install the 6112 on my Titan XD. I really wish Bilstein didn’t stop making the 5160 for the rear. Any idea why they stopped?
There's probably a 5165 that would work
@@SeanReyesmaybe. I wish I had the previous specs/part numbers to try to cross reference/compare and find one that would work. It’s hard to find old Bilstein catalogs for some reason.
I just want the 6112s assembled for a 14 F150 but I don't see that option on your site. Through 13 and then it picks back up at 15?

@ALMX5DP thanks. I'll check that out
8:37 why youre gonna wanna have a (widely expensive shop level, daily use) compressor, when your only gonna do this once every 3-5 years or ever again
We have 2 brannick compressors in daily use, not sure if you meant us.
2007 GMC Sierra
We’d probably suggest a set of Fox 2.0 for that vehicle
I've never owned Bilsteins that were "smooth". They all rode like a Forklift
😂😂😂
We hear ya, typically they’re not the softest shock on the block, but both the latest F150 and Ranger tunes are amazingly supple
I'm choosing eibach pro
Which vehicle?
Do it

If you live where it snow they will be rusted after one month!
They're clearcoated now to better resist salt.
If that’s a big concern, there’s many spray on products to help protect, blistein is one of the most bulletproof shocks there is
Huh. I live in Wyoming and haven’t experienced rust yet.
Save your money, compress your own springs. It's not that hard
