      Pink bike must be a swear word at GMBN

    • @GT-cx8vd
      @GT-cx8vd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously they did not pay to get advertised. This channel is becoming increasingly commercialised.

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't down to an advertisement aspect at all, we just believed MTB Project to be the slightly better app.

    • @Wharny
      @Wharny 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just had a look at this app . . . I live in Innerleithen . . . . and it does not appear to show a single trail?!?!?!?

    • @xcnick4
      @xcnick4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And we look forward to a comparison and what led to such beliefs. They call ebikes adaptive bikes. I could see EMBN not using it. Not even mentioning something this popular does create speculation.

  • @benkemp6546

    For me association between Trailforks and Strava is the best. Your Strava ride is automactilly tranfert to Trailforks to count as stats in the region. Powerful tools for local trail associations. And Trailforks works internationnaly so you have trails with the good background map anywhere in the world.

    Surprised not to see TrailForks or the MTB Whip apps mentioned.
    I've heard the OS Maps app is pretty good too, although personally I just use my GPS sports watch (a TomTom) which uploads to many other services including Strava.
    Aside from that I occasionally use the GPSies website and Mapometer.
    ...nice you included a first aid app though, good job!

    Good to see komoot on your list! I use it at every ride. only downside: you have to learn how to interpret routes. Sometimes paths on the map may look like fire roads, but turn out to be almost unrideable singletrails. On the plus side: It's a great app to share your experiences on trips and even create your local secret highlights (for example a nice secret single trail) add comments, photos etc. Works as a navigation app (with pre-planned routes) or as a route-tracker by just pressing the record button. I first used it as a navigation app for my bike tours across Europe. Now I use it on my everyday ride, exploring trails and areas in my neighborhood, I haven't been to before. and of course sharing my experience with others.

    I am shocked they didn't mention view ranger. This app is essential for me for so many reasons

    • @rupedog
      @rupedog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Viewranger is great...and free to download gpx files...so so sad that MBUK moved to ordnance survey...yes app is free, but then u have to pay to be able to download the routes the publish...for that reason alone MBUK is now not purchased...

    • @pbillings808
      @pbillings808 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you please elaborate on some of those reasons? The main one I've used is an audible alert when off course in a confusing tangle of trails.

    • @petayV8
      @petayV8 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pbillings808 I have used that feature too and my watch will vibrate and alert me when I'm off my plotted route
      The use of any map of choice including usgs topo osm and os
      Maps offline
      Plotting and route creation on web browser
      Detail land cover elevation data
      Intergration with wear os
      Gpx import and export
      Settings and customization for days
      This is a in depth topography app it's not for everyone and most people wouldn't use half the features. I do very big adventure rides alone in Backcountry sierra mountains and other places my planning and preperation is essential this app has been an amazing tool also works great with my Huawei watch 2

    Pro bike garage - an absolute essential. Links with Strava and tells you when services are due. Particularly helpful for tracking hours for fork servicing.
    Strava - too roadie heavy for me to subscribe. I will pay when they recognise road and MTB as separate sports! I have told Strava (and I am not alone) but they are not in the least bit interested. Would be nice to search local MTB only segments, have a more accurate calorie count for DH segments (which use far more energy than on a road bike) and not compete against roadies in lycra on the road climbs to the trail heads.
    Trail forks - +1 for this app. Can't see why it didn't make the list?

      Hooded Ninja get a weather app ;) then, the long range 7d forecast can let you work out where you might want to go next. Most of the best places to ride are the wettest. As it comes closer you get hourly % rain which can be useful planning routes or stops. Depending where and what you ride different apps will show you different trails. Some trail centres have marked routes one way only.. others are unofficial and unmarked and others are shared access. Quite a few a local bike shop will do rides where you’d never find most of the good bits or link up individual strava segments. A few are true all weather man made vs semi vs all natural ...

    • @ililiana7660
      @ililiana7660 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephen Lord thank you, I’m traveling to the west anyway so that’s great 😀

    • @stephenlord599
      @stephenlord599 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hooded Ninja West is fantastic ... I drive 2 hours+ each way to go west most weekends. Seriously with the weather though if you are driving you can mostly avoid the worst of the rain which makes some places no fun unless you’re practicing for a La Bresse DH repeat. We ride all weathers but it can make the trails very slippery and hide off camber roots etc. I use the met office app though the one Neil recommended must work he literally was just leaving Saturday as the heavens opened up at 9am and Jnr and myself got drowned for 6 hours and the trails turned to sticky gloop then slippery as ice.. but I’d booked uplift a month ago for his birthday. That reminds me if you want to do uplift places like bike park wales you need to book well in advance especially weekends. Quite often you can drive less than an hour and be in a different micro climate. Trailforks is as others have noted a good source in many areas. We have all sorts of technical but only a few real bike parks... but you can choose loamy forest, rocky or wild moors.
