    everyone complaining about the features, and the noise, and the way the door sounds when you close it. please. you sound like divas. i have NEVER owned a car in my life and i just recently bought this car, without the keyless start feature. i was riding a bicycle before this. lol major upgrade for me 😁 love it

      @@troywagnon135 he probably grew up around old clunkers that made their owners miserable that got 9 mi a gallon and barely made enough power to go up a slight hill, rattling engines with sticky interiors that are hard to breathe in, cars that cost a little too much to buy can't be justified to sell or replace and can't justify junking because the engine still works, not to mention the fact that everything would be cracking apart and breaking and gradually getting less safe on the road. At least that's what most people remember about affordable used cars growing up. It's better just to go in debt and then you can justify whatever you want like everyone else. In 1998 my father paid $100,000 to put armor on the underside of his SUV so that it could get smashed up as much as he wanted while off-roading. He knew what he wanted to invest in at least the vehicle lasted longer than I did.

    This car is close to being immortal. Totally reliable. It just keeps going. Not expensive to purchase nor maintain. Reasonably good safety. It is a great value. It's just not for people who want a sports car.

    I have owned two Corollas in my life. I recently sold my last one, and bought a Subaru WRX STI. I must say, I will always love a Corolla. They are by far the best cars on the planet as far as reliability, gas mpg and comfort goes. I've been in a total of about 7 car crashes with my two former Corollas, and I never got hurt, and they never got severely damaged. They handle well, and shock absorbance is great. They are strong and long lived. All I changed in them were the tires, brakes, windshield wipers, oil, gas and battery. They don't cost much to buy or maintain. Love them! I'm just breaking in my new STI. My car insurance since I bought it went up by almost $300, car payments are way higher than my former Corollas. The shock absorbance is is not as good. There is not as much truck space, and interior compartment space as a Corolla. If Toyota brought back the XRS (2.4L engine) and added leather power seats, I believe they would sell like hot cakes! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my new STI, I'm just saying, I would never put down the Corolla because I have a more expensive car. Corollas are the best car on the road.

    Every single person I've seen on TH-cam seems to throw out what this car is made for. It's a commuter car made for people who just need a way of transportation. It's not meant to be "sporty" or anything else. I've had my 99 Corolla and got it up to over 200,000 miles. No problems what so ever. Just got a 2015 Corolla because I love how reliable they are

      Avenged Rider I got a 93 corolla that my uncle gave me back in July with 191,000 miles no issues at all. Just painted it and it looks good again.
      Traded my 09 Altima Coupe for a 2017 Corolla on 9/10/17 don’t regret it. The Altima was faster sure it could take turns good but drank gas like crazy and always needed something done. Transmissions was a joke in Altima to dealer replaced twice and now it’s out of warranty and same symptoms were back so i got rid of the car.

    I use to think this design was kinda weird. but it's really grown on me. I think it's absolutely beautiful. Toyota does one thing great, build practical cars. and that's what people want.

      Its weird that Toyota always seem to design cars with questionable angle and lines but the design always, more often than not, no matter how ugly the first impression might be, always grows on me too (same goes to Lexus and all older gen Toyotas). I agree with you like somewhat somewhere in my brain I already know damn well Toyota always built something practical for the consumer so looks is kinda forgiving if they overdo it and in the end I appreciate they make it look more appealing than what the value of the car is.

    Review is not so impressive. Stop trying to look for power and sport handling. This is a commuter car with a proven engine to get you around with no issues. Manuals are also not new to the corolla any one remember the sr5 from the 70s how about the 1.8 3tc and the 1.6 2tc with manuals or the Ae86 with the 1.6 twin cam 16valve engines all bullet proof and capable of destroying many cars put against it. many of these corollas where also offered in the 2 door version. It's always fun to watch a mild built 1.8 3tc engine from the late 70s or early 80s put the whip to a v8.

      @jimcrants7517 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Juan Lopez Also, he's driving the "sporty" trim with the manual, so it's reasonable to fault it for not delivering performance to match the superficial sportiness.

    I think more cars need to be focused on what most people are buying. That is a commuter car. Great fuel economy, good tech/safety features, comfortable, spacious, and quiet interior. All these car reviewers only care about "sporty" or fun to drive with big engines, but that's not what most people buy a car for.

  • @lamontscales9961
    @lamontscales9961 7 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    I like that its a stick. Toyota corolla reliability is unmatched that's why they don't change the engine. If it ain't broke don't fix it. That corolla would take you to the moon and back in snow or 100 degree weather and the air conditioning will always work. There is nothing that says freedom than putting the seat back with both front windows open and just riding anywhere you want in a corolla whether its a 87 model or a 2017 model.

      Bro, my family had a 96 corolla for 20 years, my dad abused the shit out of that car before giving it to me. rarely did maintenance on it. had over 240k miles on it. it wasnt till recently that the stock radiator cracked(easy fix, took me like 15 min to take the old one out and slap in a new one) and the stock plug wires and dizzy burned out. also the tranny never had a fluid change or flush. that car just wouldnt die. sure parts here and there fail but the engine and tranny (the most important components of a car) wouldnt. I dont know if it makes a difference but the corolla we had was a japanese import, my 2012 was assembled here in the states but uses all japanese parts. that still makes me nervous and kinda kills my faith in these new corollas.

    Would like to see a sportier TRD Edition for the Corolla being made, which includes pretty much every TRD goodies they can offer to the Corolla such as a TRD Supercharger, Suspension, Brakes, TRD Exhaust, short-shifter manual gearbox, lowering-springs, etc.. Assuming Toyota would ever consider adding a TRD Supercharged engine to the Corolla whether its a 1.8 L 4 cylinder engine or better a V6 which Toyota should seriously consider in order to attract more consumers and car enthusiasts alike.

    • @ProjectSun91
      @ProjectSun91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Heyu Yoma Much like the WRX STI for instance which is selling quite decently for a price tag of around $40-50k. That being said, if Toyota could bring the full potential to this supposed new TRD Corolla and balance out those equations which includes the pricing and overall balancing of this supposed new TRD Corolla. Then perhaps the WRX STI, Focus RS, Civic Type-R or the Golf R might found itself a new competitor in the enthusiast environment.

      Toyota stopped their TRD superchargers a long time ago.. even gave up on the Tacoma, the last outpost of their once huge line of offerings. I really doubt they would ever bring it back to the Corolla. Their sales are better than ever just offering vanilla ice cream with the reliability. No reason to risk or upset that. Only thing is for Toyota to engineer a gas-sipping small displacement turbo engine similar to what the Civic is using.

    • @ProjectSun91
      @ProjectSun91 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oldtwins Which kind of sucks though that Toyota decided to discontinue its productions of TRD Supercharged engines to the market.. However, I personally wouldn't mind a tuned up TRD Naturally Aspirated Engines with a bit more HP and Torque similar to those found on the Lexus F Sports Models like the GS-F and RC-F. Something like that could work for a TRD Corolla which I do hope Toyota really considers as an option specifically for car enthusiasts to really appreciate.

    I have 2006 Corolla with 5 speed manual transmission that I purchased brand new.
    I was considering to keep that car for five years only and buy another brand new car.
    It was excellent and reliable car and easy to work on it.
    I'm glad that Corolla is coming with six speed manual transmission right now for better fuel economy on highway. I'm not crazy about some of the fancy equipment. It's OK as long they have some basic model.
    They should keep Corolla the way it has always been,reliable,affordable,good on gas and easy to work on it.
    I really appreciate six speed manual transmission and I would spend extra money for all wheel disc brakes.

    I just bought this exact model, used with 24000 KM, and I'm a commercial driver. Let me tell you, the 6 speed gearshift is NOT a long throw compared to an 18 Speed Kenworth :'D Not only that, but the gears are very close together. It's easy to accidentally shift back to the same gear you just came from, instead of the one next to it. Might be a little biased from driving truck. But what a pleasant transmission!

    My gf had the 2014 model. Nice car, lots of room. But honestly, it only has 130HP is really slow. The Honda Fit is at 130HP and its a subcompact car. Drove the Corolla here and there and it doesn't have any decent driving dynamics. Its fairly boring to drive and has lots of body roll. Trying to get on a freeway on-ramp takes forever especially if you have people in the car. It lags even more.
    If it wants to compete with the Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra, it's really got to up its game more. The new styling is quite nice though. It's really sporty looking, but honestly, they're making it LOOK sporty, but the engine just doesn't go with it. Way too sluggish.
    I also agree with Sofyan, I wish they would put Apple Car Play and Android Auto in the infotainment system. Their N-Tune system is okay, but most people would rather have Car Play/Android Auto since a majority have smartphones and its much better integration.
    Put at least a 145-155HP engine in there, with slightly better suspension and they just might turn heads.

    • @m3chan1zr
      @m3chan1zr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mommy Dearest Yeah, the clock is GREAT. It’s basically the same VFD display that Toyota’s had for decades; numbers glow against a black background, just like the old Sony Dreammachine alarm clocks. I’m glad I’m not the only one who had that thought; the separate clock is a feature I would pay for if I had the choice... it’s sad that it’s been related to a small portion of the infotainment screen on the new models. All features aside, knowing the time is still important and I liked being able to glance up and get the time without spending more than 0.5 seconds looking at the screen

    You all have to see the xse/se corolla in person. It looks better in person, than on a screen. Pretty much if you think a GTR looks big and bulky but then you visit a Nissan show room and see it for yourself. It's not bad in dark colors and the red and blue. White is not the best for it in se/xse trim.

      The 1GR-Fe was used for 11yrs, in the Tacoma, but guess what, that engine is solid. Easy to work on, and reliable. Changing engines "yearly" likely means they need to improve it, due to not getting it right the first time.

    • @jgt6008
      @jgt6008 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the 1ZR was introduced in the 10th gen Corolla for the new 2009 model year. It doesn't take much to make the Corolla a blast to drive. A short shift kit from TWM is a must and makes the shifts quick and they feel great. A Borla exhaust and intake produce a few more ponies and better throttle response. For this that want the ultimate Corolla there is even a fantastic quality turbo kit for the 1ZR-FE engine. For those of us that have added it it makes the Corolla smile from ear to ear! On top of that most people get better than EPA MPG. I've averaged 35.9 mpg over my 94k miles on my 2009 Corolla S 5-speed manual.
