    VIOLET Love: How to bring this wild potent food & gentle medicine into your life.
    This wild Native American perennial of the Violaceae family, scientifically referred to as Viola sororia, has so many gifts to offer from her beautiful edible flower (in early spring) rich in bioflavonoids and vitamin C, to her soothing, cooling nourishing edible leaf (also rich in vit. C + beta carotene) available most of the growing season.
    It can be found growing in full sun to part shade in moist rich soil. (USDA zones 4-8). Look for it in woods, gardens, meadows, and lawns.
    Culinary Uses - Leaf & tender stem: raw in salad, pesto, goddess dressing; cooked in soup, beverage. Flower: raw in salad, butter; as beautifying garnish.
    Qualities: Flower: mild w/ slight acidity; very high in vitamin C; extremely decorative. Leaf: high in vitamin C & beta carotene; mucilaginous; thickening agent; cooling; soothing.
    Note violet does not taste sweet, but has a sweet / endearing nature.
    Have you been consuming violets lately, and if yes, how are you preparing them? Do you use violets therapeutically, and if yes, how so?

      Mostly, I love eating them in salad and wild green pesto (pesto master recipe / technique in this video here: th-cam.com/video/7RIlf2TzAHE/w-d-xo.html) Topically, I use them as a cooling, drawing poultice (technique in this video here: th-cam.com/video/w0xD42y_fr4/w-d-xo.html)

    It's almost December and these guys JUST popped up in my backyard! I'm so excited! I am going to wait until flowers form to be sure what I have is the Viola, but the leaves look exactly like this. I'm gonna do the squish test to see what happens. I'm in zone 8b, which has just changed from 8a according to the Hardiness Map update. I'm hoping they survived our first frost which was last night. Thank you for this video :)

    Dina I am interested in learning more. At present am seeking to keep breast cancer in check until I have cleansed and rid my body of it. Is violet tincture beneficial for this? I was thinking you were recommending it as a poultice? Thanks. I hope I can join your class at some point. I realized this video is it states 2 years ago. 😌👉💫

      Hello Cherie, thanks for asking. Your question is best answered by a holistic health care provider who can work with you in person, so they can tailor foods, herbs, and lifestyle to your specific needs. Still, my preferred way to get the benefits of violet is by eating it (perhaps you'd like to do this too). As a poultice I find it helpful for soothing and cooling topical skin issues. Sending healing wishes.

      Thank you for watching and appreciating the video. What region are you in and is your species of violet viola sororia?

    • @EarthWiseMe
      @EarthWiseMe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      🙂 @Dina Falconi Yes, Viola sororia; grows wild here in the sand hills of NC. Just like the ones you featured but does not grow as tall, at least my patch doesn't; I eat it raw and leaves never get real big either. Hubby mows over some of the patch in late summer and it grows back even better the next year. One of my favorite wild edibles. I have discovered over 17 different wild edibles and medicinal wild herbs on my property. I also grow many of the well known herbs in my garden.

      Ah, thanks for the details. Sounds like a wonderful herb filled property you have there.
