- In this weeks wargaming terrain tutorial, I show you 4 ways to make up some simple trees for your wargaming tabletop games. These trees are mostly scratch built from really common materials, with one adapted from a really cheap tree armature from Alixpress. These miniature trees are a perfect addition for any tabletop game or shelf display for a huge variety of settings. In the tutorial this week I show you mainly how to achieve dead trees, but I will also show off a couple of simple trees done with flock as a finished product. Great watching this one as I get ready to build my Sylvaneth army. Hope all is well!
To toughen up my trees I brushed UV resin on to them and cured them out in the sun. It doesn’t add any noticeable bulk and makes them a little less brittle. They can then be primed and painted nicely.
That's some really nice trees ^^ I haven't made wire trees in a while, and the trick with the loops at the ends is new to me, maybe I should give trees another go :D

Saw in another video some people use Pipe Cleaners to make their treas... (Basically the same as the wire method, though I found that if you stick some more wire through the loop and twist it closed, you can then run some of it up the trunk while still leaving some for the roots.... )
If using pipe cleaners a heat gun works great for melting back the fuzzies and helping to lock the whole thing together....

Thanks for this, excellent timing! Those cheapo trees from Ali expess, you could use some not glue, or even some modelling flag to build on to them...Just a thought.

PVA dries faster if you don't spread it everywhere but leave channels for air, like putting it in s-lines.

how light gauge is that wire? 1 mm? 2mm?
This would be a little less than 1mm I think, it's actually just a thin gauge fencing wire from the hardware store. It's not the easiest to work with, but it's cheap and plentiful :)
@@RFDHobby Thanks, look like I've got some .8 mm wire available here, I've also got an option of galvanized iron wire with a pvc coating on it. Do you think that would be any better, or help stuff stick to it?
The twigs in the park are free, you can take them home.
I have 47 twigs.

@@Morec0 yeah, the wire method can be much better for a certain look as well. Twigs can be almost instant tree though, even though it's an almost destructible, and easily broken terrain piece, you can just insert another and keep going.
But I think ultimately just go with what's right for each piece.
@@RFDHobby I used twigs in a siren head diorama I made years back, great for dead ones.
There aren't enough good tutorial on vegetation based terrain. So much of the cheap stuff at craft stores really isn't that good.
Thanks again Brendan. If you find you have a few of those cheap craft store trees, you can sometimes use the techniques here to make them look a little bit better.

hahaha, I'm sure with a little extra work we could come up with something, but I think it might be best to just expand the search area outside the backyard first and see how you go before we start trying to polish turds. :) Good luck!
