Large tornado crosses interstates and heads directly for Missouri

- Tornadoes have swept across huge swaths of Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois with at least two killed in an Arkansas nursing home, according to a report. An Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, had its roof sheared off, and people were trapped inside. Emergency crews were on the scene trying to free those caught in the tornado's path. The Kentucky town of Mayfield was also badly hit, according to reports, with debris thrown 30,000 feet into the air.

There's nothing more terrifying then a tornado at night it's extremely dangerous for even storm chasers let alone normal drivers without the weather systems to track the storm.
Bad enough during the day.
There is... two tornadoes at night!

I've just seen some drone footage of the aftermath, in Kentucky. It was hard to watch, and harder to get my head around it. I applaude the bravery and the hands on approach the communities are making to rebuild and find lost loved ones. 🌼 The press conference I saw said the authorities pledge full support and swift action. But thry always do. I feel saddened by this. I know some of you that live in areas/states mentioned and tonight I'll light a candle and send love and prayers.

I can't imagine anything more terrifying than a tornado at night, especially if it's rain wrapped.
Nature is both amazing and scary. It's one of the things i'm grateful for here in the UK, the weather is equally as boring as everything else.
Nothing boring about weather in the US plains and Midwest, indeed ! I'm used to it and as long as they aren't hitting people, I get mesmerized by the TV full coverage during threatening tornado and severe weather. conditions.

I was on the amtrack train when it happened
I was in Oklahoma during the May 3rd, 1999 tornado outbreak. I was driving for Davis Transport at the time. I'm a truck driver so I've been in situations that weren't pleasant. 60 people were killed in that event just in Oklahoma alone.
you couldn’t even really see what was going on. only the lightening highlighted the tornado. it looks huge. the wind is tearing through. really scary. thank you to whom ever shot this video - amazing!!

Wow I heard 70+ people dIED last night in Kentucky coz of a giant wedge Tornado, like let EF-4 or EF-5... and its the worst tornado that the state of Kentucky has ever had. Pray for all the people who have been affected by the tornadoes from this absolutely vicious storm system! 😳🥺😲🤯

Pretty sure this is the tornado that hit Mayfield Ken. Mayfield is right across the Mississippi from Caruthersville Mo where this was shot!

It's horrifying...yet also tragically beautiful. The lightning flickers through the storm and shows the true size of the monster...perhaps only existing because of our continued disrespect of mother earth.
Global warming is a myth, my friend.. at least it being caused solely by humans is. With or without us and our technologies, the earth goes through cycles of warming and cooling. The ice age was a clear example of that.
Most storms I watch from my porch. This was not one of them.
The thing that sets these storms apart(besides being at night) is the very long track and maintained strength. We have had worst tornadoes in terms of extreme EF5 damage in Oklahoma(Moore 1999, 2013, record size 3.6 mi. across near El Reno, 2013) but the tracks were not nearly as long, partly because they moved more slowly at 20- 30mph, compared to 50mph in the cross state outbreak.
Listen im only 14 and this is the most terrifying thing i have ever ever experienced it sounded like a fright train and it was dark and u couldnt see anything i unfortunately lost my three cats and my dog but im lucky to be alive RIP to anyone who past during this😔🙏

To know that there is without a doubt a large tornado somewhere out there in the darkness incredibly close to your location and you are not able to determine what it's doing or where it's headed, has got to be the most horrific experiences one could imagine in a storm..
It's hard to watch this knowing that people are actually dying during it. Horrible.
I drove right through there this morning where it crossed the interstate 55... There was three or four 18 wheelers wadded up or just turned over along the road next to a house that got hit. Very sad to see.
Nighttime tornadoes 🌪 are an absolute nightmare.

I live in Midwest but not near the storm, I had a dream last night that almost perfectly resembled this tornado. It was a dream about the tornado beginning to break out from the dark clouds like wtf how did I dream so vividly of a natural disaster that I didn’t know happened

1:17 I’m so glad I live in a state that doesn’t get many tornadoes and none so deadly. I don’t get how folks can stand to live in places that have them :( It’s so awful to see happen much less experience first hand.
we were a quarter mile from it and it took out everything in its path .....im from ohio county ky and we hardly ever get this kind of weather .....of course we get fairly bad storms from time to time but nothing compared to this ....this was one freak of nature !!
Some of these places are hardly ever hit with any severe weather.. Do they have severe storms in spring and fall sometimes, yes but nothing on a magnitude like this. I live in NW Georgia and we have worse storms than western Kentucky usually. It was so warm for a December day and it only strengthened them as the storms were forming. When the front passed through here, I was shocked even with the system dramatically weakened, how strong the wind and lightning were. Such a freak thing for December. Seems the past few years it’s the months we shouldn’t expect things are the ones we should start preparing for.

I’m outside of Chattanooga and kept following police and fire scanners in the storms path in Kentucky all night because I have an aunt in bowling green(their neighborhood by WKU was hit hard but are ok!). It really has affected me tremendously. The shear fear and terror In the voices of the law enforcement officers over the scanners is something that will stay with me forever. So sad. Again, I’m so thankful you are ok. My goodness that was a night of terror. Also, is there any local charities in the area accepting donations or goods? I’d rather give to the local charities so I know it will be handed out to those in need right now and help some communities that may be otherwise overlooked by the big guns.
This storm that happen were not ordinary, this was a freak of nature storm or as they call a extreme weather phenomena. The tornado that crossed for over 200+ kilometers was nothing before seen in a lot of the states that got hit by that tornado that was a ef4 or a ef5 by the looks of it that didn't look like a ef5 it destroyed everything including buildings they where flattened.
It only took 2 hours for the tornado to pass 4 states
Night tornado...very dangerous and scary.Stormchaser Reed Timmer predicted an outbreak already a week ago in his streams...great guy...i am convinced Reed saved lives in de days before this tragic event.

I went past the path of the tornado on I-40 a few days after. When we first got to it it was heavily treed along the freeway. We thought holy s@#% we must be right in the middle of the path. Then we went about a 1/2 mile further and then we were definately in its path as it had crossed the road. 100ft trees....ALL DOWN.
Absolutely NONE standing for about a 1/2 mile wide. Dozers out getting the down trees further away from the freeway. It was amazing the destruction.
Sometimes we forget how powerful Mother Nature is. Please don’t take this planet for granted 🙏

I have from underneath a bridge. I got out of the car and wedged myself under the bottom of the bridge. Semi truck and cars were picked up and thrown 100’ from me. The protection of the bridge lowered my profile enough to where I felt more safe than in my car. And, it worked. The other vehicles were hit and flipped while mine was not. Got really lucky with that one. No major injuries suffered by anyone there. Under any other scenario you really should not get out of the car unless you are right next to a deep drainage ditch.

That’s a big tornado, so scary at night. I live in Moore Oklahoma and my tornado bag stays packed all year long. Definitely looks like F5 damage. You never forget it.

@@laurie7689 but they can still happen at any time, even when it's not tornado season. We've had December tornadoes in Texas, for example.
They can happen anytime of year if conditions are right. In fact there have been two f5 tornadoes in December of 1953 and 1957.

Just want to take a minute to big up storm chasers.
Without them many more people would die in these circumstances. (They track and monitor and report to emergency services, which allows some people time to shelter or even evacuate.
Who are the people driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????.you would think they would know the danger!!!!!!mindboggling.and it's not storm chasers.
