The part about becoming more practical has happened with me. I was taking math classes too and dropped out (more like failed bc of sickness) but then I started working in a field. Yes this style of active engagement in a medium can be done in book form too. It reminds me of the series of programming books the first title of which being "The Little Schemer" by Daniel Friedman and M. Felleisen. In this style of book passages of a text are typeset into two columns of corresponding question/answers. In my imagined, analogous book on symbolism, the left column could be selections of text and the right hand column an analysis of symbolism (which is meant to be covered with a sheet of paper until you have generated your own interpretation). The Little Schemer works using Socratic question/answers as you progressively slide your sheet of paper down the page. Many of the questions in Friedman's book are just "What is the meaning of?" followed by some code. The point being to evaluate the code in your head. At other times one has to finish a definition based on past patterns. It is quite amazing. Another book in this tradition of active learning (but that functions quite differently) is the Latin text "Lingva Latina", but that is a different form unique to foreign language learning. 1:27:09 In regard to going into exile on purpose, I think the answer lies in Phi 2:5-13. Have this attitude…..which is also in Christ Jesus…who did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped (think of Eve grasping for fruit above her head)…..but humbled himself by becoming obedient…. I think to desire equality with God is a good thing if accompanied by an attitude of obedience and trust in God. The timing and manner of the exile, as well as the renewal, is initiated by God. That being said, I think God is inviting us into mini exiles all the time!
When i started listening to Jordan it was Jibberish, than years later it made sense. When I started listening to Jonathan it was Jibberish, than years later it started to make sense. Only a little bit of Matthieu sounds like Jibberish but looking back I think if I heard him 5 years ago he would have sounded like he was from another planet. I hope he does share more with us.
So another way to approach rumination:. Ruminants are animals that chew their cud. Cud is regurgitated food mixed with saliva that needs to be rechewed to be digestible. This takes time. Ruminants also need to have time to develop the necessary gut bacteria to break down what they are consuming. If they don't have it they will starve, even with a full stomach. So to keep it short--biting off more than you can chew is indeed fractal.
Purposeful exile for reneval sounds also like fasting and other types of self-sacrifice. It works to refresh your being. It is a practice that you can control, but the actual event is the kind where you also submit to what isn't your own will.
This was a very, very entertaining video. I had no idea Matthieu would thoroughly delve like this because I haven't heard other interviewers let him keep on talking. That's not always a bad thing because they're trying to raise a sharp point, however this was a real gem and I feel blessed to have stumbled on all of this content going on lately.
Yes, that's a very real phenomenon that perhaps needs to be addressed a little bit to the newcomers that engage in these metaphysical conversations, myself included. To loose one's materialistic worldview involuntarily is a frightening experience that I have experienced myself. Cultivating patience and humility was essential to recovering from that.
In leaving the " rational" and the material, you are conditioning yourself to think outside of the normalizing frame of current year in almost all parts of the globe. I find myself wanting to say less and less to the people around me because of it. It's painful, but I can't go back.

Very insightful and I especially appreciate how you described what it feels like when new insights are revealed - wise council to step back and breath before expecting others to see what you do. Also very good to remember this when encountering others who seem to be coming from a totally different place. I think sometimes we dismiss people whose worlds we don't inhabit for the same reasons you alluded to about those who appeal to mystery when studying scripture - in addition to arrogance I think it is also “safer” to avoid or count as crazy that which threatens where we call home. Lovingly, joyfully ruminating the words of the Bible, and the ways God speaks to me…this type of thinking has led me to a deeper spiritual life. Living the “way” of Jesus has taught me the practical nature of believing and loving God.
An amazing conversation. Loved that Matthieu dove in without too much exposition. I know it is probably disorienting for people not involved in the Symbolic World but very useful for the rest of us. I was also very happy to hear him talking about the process of getting to insight through a combination of active and passive exploration, a lot of patience and perseverance, avoiding thinking in abstract concepts etc. (this I find relating to 'learning how to learn' and 'knowing how to know'). I believe this is one of the topics that is not clear and I see people in a way memorising symbolic associations (information communicated by other people that may or may not contain an insight) instead of getting to the insight themeselves. The next move is also usually reverting to theological or philosophical abstract discussion. Finally, one thing I would note is that "going crazy", seems to me, does not always mean that you got a higher insight that you can not communicate but in many cases that you thought you got an insight but you didn't or maybe there was an insight but you clothed it with a false rationalisation or interpretation without noticing. In general, prelest is quite common and I think quite important to note that.
Great advice finding the right moment to share new knowledge. There's countless examples in our history of people that were far ahead and ended up labeled crazy and in an early grave due to it.
I really enjoy the way Matthieu describes things. Certain phrases that he's come up with are incredibly helpful. I get that most people would not understand because the rumination aspect is no joke, but I would love to hear more.
God made us in His image so can change His mind like we do but paradoxically He already knows everything, so these instances are actually a test to see if the person wants mercy over sacrifice; which is what God desires. Paradox’s are God’s fingerprints that are all over this reality.
Definitely see what Matthieu said of the Vampire renewing itself on the culture -works politically too; along with the image of the mirror. Heavenly Father, Jesus save us!
So insightful. I have a background in mathematics but also an intuitive way of thinking like Matthieu, which is something I don't think I've ever really encountered anywhere else and so the way he speaks makes so much sense to me, it is wonderful. He is constantly showing me truths that have been too simple to notice. Remember that no matter how sophisticated a mathematical proof appears, it in reality has to be the simplest and most obvious kind of thing for it to be a proof at all.
It'd be cool to hear how you conceptualize logos as that example pageau used of math. I'm of a mind that the Logos undergirds that idea of coherence/knowable intelligence
@dannybbolt yeah like a pattern of truth. The Word that God speaks to create. To use religio language. That famous line from Einstein, the most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible. Mystery for sure. Immaterial, but real. The thing that unifies intelligibility. Meaning. Objective truth.
In some ways the idea of renewal through leaving your frame and seeking unpredictability is described in Genesis 12:1, with Abraham the first Jew: "Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee." Initiating an explorative and unpredictable process could even be necessary for complete renewal of the psyche. Exposing oneself to a bigger world outside one's familiar knowledge. Thus the starting point of Abraham.
Matthieu: How does this knowledge help you in life? Basically - what kind of fruit does it produce? Is your relationships, health, family, etc benefited?
Thanks Dan; for your curious and insightful queries posed over the duration of this interview; and thank you to Matthieu for some of the most interesting responses i've ever heard to questions of this nature! RGB-Y3 out!!
I like it very much as Matthieu Pageau puts it as "good and bad", and not evil, adding a moral charge to it. I'm aware that the purpose might not be this, but I can't stop appreciating that.
You can see and feel the ruach hakodesh working in and through Matthieu. The first video I experienced you in was the background video to Jordan Peterson's Abraham lecture about four years ago. I thought you were arrogant and impatient but incredibly insightful. I see now that ,if anything it was just mild frustration because of how very far western thought is from reality. REALLY excited for this book. The lack of the feminine perspective and to a degree the right hemisphere point of view has been my only criticism of Language of Creation, not that I would know how to do it better. Fantastic interview as well, definitely going to follow your interviews.
@@suppression2142 Asymmetry of the brain is an extremely interesting subject for me. I don't have any idea how it works in a microcosm/macrocosm sort of way to be honest, your thoughts?
Reality = That which is/That I am. The Rhythm of Life is a movement and a rest. The optimum (Heaven), is always found somewhere between the extremes of too much and too little (hell). Heaven = Abstract Earth = Concrete The abstract called Love can be expressed concretely as a hug, etc.
When they talk about properly joining heaven and earth it makes me think of practice. We have an inspiration (heaven) but to join it properly with earth we need to have the basic skills covered in order to fully manifest heaven. Like a great basketball player can fully embody “basketball” because they have the foundation/base of the mountain/dribbling, shooting, running etc built up to rely on to reach the highest idea of basketball.
I found that segment of the discussion in which Mathieu discusses renewal and the foreigner and exile very insightful. Especially thought-provoking was the observation that to undergo renewal one has to relinquish control. Here the vampire illustration was particularly illuminating. But conspicuous by its absence from the discussion is the category of faith, which is central to the story of Abraham and Sarah. Faith is to surrender control in the expectation that God himself will fulfill the promise. It is not Ishmael who is the son of the promise, but rather Isaac, who represents the renewal of Abraham and Sarah.
I Sam 15 v.29 vs v. 35 is critical for understanding God changing His mind - God changes it about Saul but Samuel says God doesn't change His mind when Saul tries to repent. I would love to see this discussed more and with the other examples.
The sin of control is one ditch, the sin of abandon is another. The period of renewal is an indefinite measure between definite measures. This is like the corner of the field being left. The indefinite corners between the definite fields. The sin of control is harvesting the corner. The sin of abandon is not harvesting at all, not producing an increase, or a tithe for the disinherited (the priests and the poor).
The description of the vampire hit home! When one finds themself a victim of the vampire, once he sucks the blood, there’s no hope, or is there, or does the pattern break down at that point as we have Christ and the hope of Resurrection? I also wonder where exile fits into the vampire pattern…?
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that he should lie, not a son of man, that he should change his mind.” Mal. 3:6 “I the Lord do not change.” James 1:17 “the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Tradition is very clear in this regard that God and His will is not changing. Some of its fulfillment is conditional on our free will tho and this the Bible portrays anthropomorphically as God changing His mind.
@@matthieupageau9537 something I’ve been ruminating about since absorbing you and your brothers work is your conception of angelic beings. They feel very similar to the concept of Universals from philosophy, but I know they are not as they are persons. For example, the idea that a city / country is an angel. What in your mind is the difference between a universal and an angel?
Very interesting. In my Bible Adam told Eve to stay away from the tree and he did not take the time to explain that it could be touched but must not be eaten. And then Adam willingly ate the fruit knowing what it was and tried to blame Eve and God. I don’t just think these are patterns. It’s like ideas on top of other similar ideas but more .Precept upon precept
In regards to his comment about poison. The name of the angel Samael who iirc is often thought of as the devil itself, translates to the "poison of God". Very interesting video.

such an insightful conversation. will ahve to come back and listen a second time. thank you both
Definitely see what Matthieu said of the Vampire renewing itself on the culture -works politically too; along with the image of the mirror. Heavenly Father, Jesus save us!
Are you kidding?
There is no man named Jesus
and there is no savior
the savior program is a sham-wow
Religion is a con job
for governement slavery
I wonder how he figured all this out and can’t wait for the 2nd book!
amazing discussion, so much packed into only 2 hours...
Nice callout to primitive technology! Super happy to see I have something in common with Matthieu beyond his work lol
I really appreciated the point made about Matthew being very abstract and intuitive by nature and requiring development of his practical earthy side,
So insightful.
@@LordBlk Math is a mystery. I define it as the set of all ideas that are simple enough that everyone can agree on their meaning.
This was hella good. Thank you!
There is no good or bad
only light and dark
its not up to you
I have tried so hard to understand what this man says always left scratching my head
Right hemisphere? What do you mean exactly if you don't mind me asking?
@@suppression2142 Asymmetry of the brain is an extremely interesting subject for me.
I don't have any idea how it works in a microcosm/macrocosm sort of way to be honest, your thoughts?
Matthieu looks boss.
Lol why is Matthieu doing the interview out in da wilderness
Symbolism happens🤷🏻♂️
he is in exile
Eating locusts and wild honey.
Reality = That which is/That I am.
The Rhythm of Life is a movement and a rest. The optimum (Heaven), is always found somewhere between the extremes of too much and too little (hell).
Heaven = Abstract
Earth = Concrete
The abstract called Love can be expressed concretely as a hug, etc.
O
“A seed is the best example of what heaven is” 4:30
I would watch his ten hour video of Samson
24:00 Like the 20th c. physicist's quote:
"Shut up & calculate!"
It’s not a gift until you give it to
We need more MP CONTENT 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the part about vampires!
Incredible
Off topic. Some people says that me and my brother sound alike each other...
Now i kinda know what they are talking.
Jung talks about this challenging the law in the context of the book of Job. About how man changes God…
Transformation happens through humility and endurance and getting your hands dirty. (Sophia)
Is Matthieu filming this outside in reference to the idea of the outside perspective? Very clever.
🤯 great stuff!
Ph why am i excited before really listening to it
Primitive Technology is an awesome channel.
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man that he should lie, not a son of man, that he should change his mind.”
Mal. 3:6 “I the Lord do not change.”
James 1:17 “the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Tradition is very clear in this regard that God and His will is not changing. Some of its fulfillment is conditional on our free will tho and this the Bible portrays anthropomorphically as God changing His mind.
John Plant, primitive technology, great channel, I have his book too...
I think of what Mattheau calls rumination as contemplation. One of the triptych of attention practices: concentration, meditation, contemplation.
Monks used to engage in rumination (maybe some still do, but i haven't met them). Contemplation... but making sure your hands get dirty too.
To ruminate is to chew the cud which means to chew on something then swallow it and bring it up to chew on it again.
Great interview. I Was hoping someone would know how to get him to talk! I say we interrogate him since he’s refusing to share.
make the 10 hour video please!!!!!!!
What a chad
Very interesting. In my Bible Adam told Eve to stay away from the tree and he did not take the time to explain that it could be touched but must not be eaten. And then Adam willingly ate the fruit knowing what it was and tried to blame Eve and God. I don’t just think these are patterns. It’s like ideas on top of other similar ideas but more .Precept upon precept
It almost sounds like he's talking about the difficulties of creating a perpetual motion machine.
In regards to his comment about poison.
The name of the angel Samael who iirc is often thought of as the devil itself, translates to the "poison of God".
Very interesting video.
