Matthieu Pageau: The Language of Renewal
Matthieu Pageau speaks about his upcoming book, which has the working title: The Language of Renewal.
Matthieu Pageau is the author of The Language of Creation: Cosmic Symbolism in Genesis: A Commentary.
“The Language of Creation is a commentary on the primeval stories from the book of Genesis. It is often difficult to recognize the spiritual wisdom contained in these narratives because the current scientific worldview is deeply rooted in materialism.”
Materialism is the view that there is only matter, and spirit does not exist. The Language of Creation looks at Genesis from a spiritual view.
“The Language of Creation demonstrates why these stories are foundational to western science and civilization. It rediscovers the archaic cosmic patterns of heaven, earth, time, and space, and sees them repeated at different levels of reality.”

As a medical practitioner I would disagree that 'sleep' and the processes that take one there is a negative phenomenon. Just as there are different perspectives, depending on the viewer viewing the object, there are different forms of positive elements, wakefulness and sleepiness are both features of the whole rather than one a detraction of the other, they compliment one another. A truly negative phenomenon is seen when a positive phenomenon is directed to a deathly end, eg a medicine used to help an insomniac achieve sleep is instead given in such a large dose that the insomniac never wakes again.

If the lock is lost the riddle becomes "What is this key for?" This is also what the Book of Job is about. What is a righteous man for? Once Job is in pain and suffering, he does not know what God's purposes are for him. So Job presents the riddle "Why do the wicked prosper?" which the friends are unable to answer. God comes later and answers, not by answering Job's riddle, but by presenting the forgotten riddle, which Job is the answer to.

While Christianity is on the decline in the west, on the other end of the world many muslims in arab countries have reported being visited by Jesus in their dreams, and many are converting secretly in their hearts due to fear of persecution. Maybe this is a positive aspect of the dream-reality we find ourselves in that Matthieu was talking about

Very insightful and I especially appreciate how you described what it feels like when new insights are revealed - wise council to step back and breath before expecting others to see what you do. Also very good to remember this when encountering others who seem to be coming from a totally different place. I think sometimes we dismiss people whose worlds we don't inhabit for the same reasons you alluded to about those who appeal to mystery when studying scripture - in addition to arrogance I think it is also “safer” to avoid or count as crazy that which threatens where we call home. May we let go of our fears and desire for control and become like little children so that we might eagerly follow the Holy Spirit into whatever new adventures God has prepared for us. Thank you and may God bless you both for sharing of yourselves in this genuine and meaningful way. 🙏

When Matthieu started to talk about the role of the first born and the second born and of the spare it made me think of something similar I’ve thought about. The concept of fineness and coarseness as it relates to work. There are always people gathering the raw materials who tend to have to do more of the bulk work. Generally this is the more masculine occupations, cutting down trees, gathering minerals, hunting, etc it involves heavy labour, more down to earth thinking and contending with ‘reality’ at the first glance. It’s like the first filter that takes out any large chunks and processes a lot of information with a broad scope. Then there are the people that do the fine work, who only do so on this already processed part of reality. They will truly craft something and often times have to do tedious and time consuming tasks that the first group think is a waste of time. Comparatively it can even be seen as such because the scope is much smaller so if you’re comparing the bulk of the output it can appear that way. However the devil is in the details and the truth is that someone will always need to do that work. Like how someone will always have to do the dishes or do the maintenance or care for children, all things that can sometimes go unnoticed. This is typically more feminine. I noticed this after helping my Dad painting I would often get relegated to do the finer little touch ups and details. Really it’s a privilege but it didn’t feel that way. Cleaning the ‘edges’ and or tapping the ‘borders’ is tedious work and it sometimes doesn’t get noticed especially by a customer but he always appreciated it because he knew how much time it could take up. He was much faster at doing the ‘course’ work, the work that you could see instantly at a glance and say wow you really advanced a lot. It seems to me a natural pattern not only between siblings but in family and society aswell. Societies have to start out focusing on the bigger picture bill processes but as people have children they will naturally diversify themselves and make a space for their finer talents. However it doesn’t seem to me like anyone really chooses either of these paths they are simply how people unfold as societies grow. Anyways to anyone who read this thank you, I wish I would have done a better job explaining it.

39:16 - this is helping me crack two of the most complicated stories for me: Lot falling asleep and "sleeping" with his daughters and Noah sleeping naked. On another note, my wife and I have been struggling with our 3-year-old who seems to be in a new phase where he is constantly power struggling with us. One thing he's also doing is trying not to sleep. It's definitely obvious now that these two things are connected.
