    A House Divided
    Director: Lewis Allen
    Writer: Al C. Ward
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
Release Date: 16 January 1960 USA
Filming Locations: Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
    Storyline:
Ben tries to uncover the reason gold and silver exporter, Frederick Kyle, has befriended Little Joe before the shadowy businessman's hidden Civil War agenda tears Virginia City, and the Cartwright family, apart
    Reviews:
"Cameron Mitchell comes to Virginia City in this episode of Bonanza entitled after Lincoln's famous quote from the Bible that A House Divided cannot stand. In this case it's the residence of the Ponderosa that is shaking because of Mitchell's presence.
This is one of the few, maybe the only episode of Bonanza that dealt with the Civil War. As followers of the show know Lorne Greene's three wives hailed from different parts of the country. Pernell Roberts's mother was from New England, Dan Blocker's from the Missouri border state area, and Michael Landon's from New Orleans.
When Mitchell comes to town he accidentally on purpose meets up with Michael Landon and told him that he knew his mother way back when they were living in New Orleans together. Fans of Bonanza also know that to mention the mothers of any of the boys is to strike a vulnerable chord. With Landon in tow and seemingly the Cartwright imprimatur on his actions, Mitchell tries enlisting the Comstock Lode silver mine owners to the Confederate cause.
Of course all this causes discord on the Ponderosa and more I won't go into. Let's say Lorne Greene had his hands full keeping the family together.
This was one of the most memorable episodes from early Bonanza where politics nearly renders the Cartwrights asunder." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

They wanted Pernell in Gunsmoke in 1955 but back then he couldn't ride a horse. He had an audition with John Rich the casting agent, who said he was perfect for the part and was brilliant and he wanted him but the horse riding wasn't there so he didn't get it...The next time he saw Pernell was when they worked on Bonanza by which time he learned how to ride! Just a bit of info for anyone interested.

CBS wanted John Wayne to play Matt, but he didn't want to end his movie career for a TV job which might not last. Back in the 1950s, major actors either worked in films or in TV, not both. Movie stars could guest star on extremely popular shows like "I Love Lucy," or appear in Variety shows like "Ed Sullivan," but that was it. Wayne recommended his friend James Arness, and he got the job. Wayne introduces the first episode of "Gunsmoke" as a favor to Arness and CBS. If Wayne had taken the job, there would have been no "True Grit," for example, and "Gunsmoke" would have had to end at least one or two seasons early (18th or 19th Season) due to Wayne's poor health. Since Dennis Weaver was the first actor signed for "Gunsmoke," perhaps there was another role in the original pilot script which was cut. I can't see Roberts as "Doc Adams," and Quint Asper (Burt Reynolds) came along years later.

It was incredible how far he succeeded in accomplishing that goal in the few short years he had to work with. Especially since the entire time President Trump occupied the white house the far left Democrats along with the 90% left controlled media did everything in their power to divide us as a nation and keep us fighting with one another.

Their lever action rifles would have been Henrys, which were produced between 1960-66. As its name suggests, the Winchester 73 appeared almost 10 years later

The Confederacy. The War Between the States was a lot more about taxing the South to pay for the industrialization of the North. All nations in the world have had slaves at some point, not just the USA. Lincoln didn't issue the Emancipation Proclamation until two full years into the War - he wasn't that anxious to free them. He even said that if he could unite the country without freeing a single slave, he would do so.
