    You are getting better and better at this decoder install thing. I do think I would have cleaned everything up on the old board and just used it as a platform for the new decoder and then did everything just as you did, but that's me crazy Jersey Bill, lol. A very polished video, Dave.

      I thought about that bill, but one day I might need it, lol.

    @Scott Rails You definitely have great courage to drill holes of that small size for lighting with a dremel . I tried many times in the past and gaffed up projects. In the end I use those tiny "Thumb drills" sold by micro-mark and manually drill through,lol. (i use them for tapping holes for hand rails/grab irons too. Great job!!

    Nice work. FYI; Canadian rail does not use use flashing ditchlights.

    I saw a cool method of using a larger size shrink tube (unshrunk) as a conduit and glued to the underside of the hood to control lighting wires.

    That is nice ditch lights
    Also I do have three high horsepower locomotives
    my SD70MAC, SD80MAC, and ET44AC
    Which has in built Ditch lights.
    Interestedly enough remember you got UP SD70ACe. My dream locomotive was SD80MAC which I got my hands from July 5th when the mail came.

    Actually, it is a AC4400 with high mounted ditch lights. Athearn just did all the shells the same way with low mounted ditch lights. I know you're not a proto modeler but good job anyways.

    Very Nice !! Layout Looking good. I like the brightness on the ditch lights, I'd leave it alone. Thanks for the decoder tip, I am in process of modifying my 70+ dc fleet of locos. Overtime of course. Thanks- good video.

    You need to beeswax your drill bits. That will melt before the plastic and give it some lube to help it work.

    If you use a hot pin you can make a drill starting point, it will avoid drill bit wandering

      Great idea, and if you add the right resistor they will come on without too much speed in the loco.

    I dont use DCC so dont know this, do DCC fitted engines seem to run smoother then DC fitted engines, next question, there always appears to be engine track noise with DC fitted engines, is this noise still there with DCC fitted engines?

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From my limited experience, converting to dcc does not make anything smoother or quieter. In fact, cheap decoders can make the motor quite noisy.

    Can you give some info on how you mapped the functions for the ditch lights? Which CVs did you set? Or does that model of TCS controller come setup with those 2 functions as the defaults for it?

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used the Lighting quick preset option from the TCS instructions. CV 8 - 10

    How did you fry the decoder?

    • @ScottRails
      @ScottRails  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not completely fried, but it won't reset.

    I just don't understand why you all don't find a connector for the lights then the body won't be in the way during repairs 😮
