I spent around 25 years reading about Zen before discovering AW. Or AW discovered me. Regardless, his method - erudition - struck home. Suddenly one afternoon after listening to these wonderful talks, it happened. I stopped being me for a while - 'i' got out of the way, and 'I' just 'was'. Im not going to describe it as AW does it much better. Thank you, Mark W and this channel for making this stuff available ☺️
Alan Watts was an intriguing character and so far ahead of his time in challenging the conventional wisdom of established religion. His combined erudition, breadth of knowledge and relatability made him an engaging public speaker and writer. Yet, at the same time, certain aspects of his lived life - involving multiple affairs and addictions - raise almost as many questions as he answers. According to his autobiography, “In My Own Way”, he was the first to shun any idea that he should be regarded as a guru, preferring to modestly describe himself as a philosophical entertainer. Perhaps his ultimate appeal was his profound honesty and lack of hypocrisy. He was one of a kind.
If you follow zen philosophy, there is no contradiction. As Watts repeatedly stresses, there is no black without white. We cannot be anything other than we are. We should just be. Renunciation of worldly persuits misses the point, it is not the goal. There is no goal. I recommend Suzuki's book on Beginner's Mind. 🎯
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Genius BEYOND GENIUS. Brilliant! Love that he met Fritz Perls! Gestalt Hypnotherapist here! Alan Watts is both in my bedroom and in my therapy room. All that he says is so true. Wonder what he’s doing now. Imagine what he’d say NOWWWWW.

@@garypuckettmuse hi! Yes! I wonder what he would be saying about all of these recent views of the UFOs and if he thinks that they are a distraction against the New World order that seems to be coming our way. Achieving Mutual surrender implies the capacity to surrender; a skill difficult to acquire and even more difficult to practice. Listening to this helped exercise that skill. My sincerest appreciation goes to the creators of this podcast.
You’re right! That is an excellent look at it. I had my glimpse some years back, which led to a period of meditation and isolation and slowly becoming into oneness. Understanding ego and understanding that you don’t have to take ownership of the collection stream of thoughts are key. Also love and forgiveness (by seeing all as a reflection of you and vice versa). Life will be much more peaceful at this point. Shit still happens, but you will see through it. You will come to be grateful even for negativity. You will see negative triggers as simply unhealed parts of ego/shadow given to you as a gift from the universe to grow and expand awareness. This is cosmic consciousness ❤❤❤
Went to a vipassana , couldn’t remember what my voice sounded like day 8… internal monologue was Alan’s voice perfectly playing in my head… even my thoughts? Walking through the forest path in deep contemplation n see a plant then alan comes in “Ah lovely!*
Thank you Mark. Your dad has helped me so much. I respectfully ask if you can please fix the noise from the microphone. I understand is old recordings but maybe with new technology it can be improved. Thank you so much. Sorry for complaining. 🕉️🕉️
this is healthy balance of eastern philosophy towards stillness for the western world; counter to constant cyclical manic acting/thinking in attempt of pursuant nothingness/meaninglessness.
At last Mark Watts has produced the perfect broadcast. There is no background music or noises to drown out Alan Watts. Alan Watts in a genius of course and is the only one worthy of that title. The transcript is brilliant, I knew Mark had it in him to create a perfect production like this, it's just a pity that the music and background noises on just about every other podcast is still there.

Our emotions are triggered when our desires are not met or satisfied. Intellectuals avoid social gatherings due to fear of being out of control. Meditation has its limitations; enlightenment is possible when our mind is awake, its desire is to understand the causes of our emotions. Freedom from hate and anger is possible when we understand them. The teachings of Spinoza’s and Gurdjieff’s will help develop a deeper meaning to your life.
Very interesting🖤 I’ve been in a relationship with my best friend for over 30yrs I never tell her I love her I show her we never try to have a relationship we live it with our ups and downs but she is the only person I fully trust but have never had the thought of entering a contract of marriage as I’m not religious or political, have listened to Alan for days and just 🖤 the sound of his voice the father I never had🤗😂🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤
Alan's perspective's are that of human (mind controlled) low LEVEL awareness consciousness state perceptions. Slightly higher than totally Unconsciousness ones.
In 2015 after 1 use of DMT / Blue lotus I kicked a 30 year opioid habit, A 59 yr old retired electrician from Boston now living on 7 acres in NH with my own river Monsanto knows nothing about.
Hurray for genes because they produced a lot of philosophers like Alan Watts, who has given mankind much to think about with his philosophy and insight.

Commitment means commitment and most ppl who don't want to be responsible
will not commit

It's hard to refuse it
Bc it carries an energy of it's own like no other
When I feel in love it feels good
I think when two ppl commit
to each other and their intentions are sincere and want to be in a true relationship, where there is intimacy
It's when they are most open to
the pleasure of sharing love
