I know that Brightgoat has moved on from this AU, but damn does it still hurt. And I know someone else is still running the casino cups account, but it’s just not the same. I love the character dynamics with Mugman increasingly going more and more insane with the want to become immortal to gain knowledge, and convincing himself that his desire will help him make the world a better place, and Cuphead desiring material wealth and power as a way to cope with the loss of Elder Kettle and avoid deeper emotions that he feels. I also do wonder how the Devil sees Dice. Like I don’t doubt that he doesn’t love him, but what kind of love is it? As far as I know, Dice is still technically a mortal, just with demon abilities. Does the Devil just see him as a means to an end? Does he see him as a mortal he’s fond of that will inevitably die at some point? And even the angels were starting to get involved as well! What was Gabriel planning on doing with Mugman? Would he and the Devil encounter each other at some point? What happened to Chalice? What happened to Cagney??? I still have so many questions regarding the story, and I’m really disappointed in seeing it be cancelled. But I still respect Bright’s decision, and I do understand burnout more than anyone after the pandemic. Plus, the Frankenstein AU looks amazing, and I’m very interested in that as well. I guess what I’m trying to say is, thank you, Brightgoat, for this wonderful story you came up with from a wonderful game. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me to pursue art and start my own webcomic, and best of wishes to you.
i also feel like this au had a lot of potential in becoming a webcomic. There was a lot of character and an interesting storyline that was mostly muddled out due to the nature of ask blogs. It feels like we barely scratched the surface on the calix animi lore.

Guess Dice was desperate at that point. But then again this might be another universe in this song so I don't know :p

Here I am after 3 years after the release sitting appreciating the author's titanic work. Wow. Speechless, really. I sometimes wonder HOW are people compatible of doing such amazing things. Also some details! Even though the Devil looked more sympathetic to Mug and KD (and I want to believe he was at least a little sincere since only with KD pupils showed), i got a feeling he was the most honest to Cup showing from the start his true intentions 😗 Also, from all 3 only KD singed visibly, whereas Mug only pulled closer to sign and Cup didn't even move 🤔 hm hm interesting!
How I saw devil when convincing them Mugs: sort of like he was sympathetic but, more concerned as if he was a parent comforting him telling him it would be alright, Cups: he did look very smug, almost daring him to. Dice: he looked sincere and very caring, the small movements such as gently touching the underside of dices he’d were tender and loving. The time he looked exited it looked more of possessive as dice signed it
Just putting this out there; Cuphead and Mugman were asked if they said something before releasing a powerful attack, I don’t remember Mugmans but one distinct line from Cuphead was “EAT SHORTS!” And I’m still laughing. Edit: autocorrect said ear instead of eat, so I fixed it
This really is stunning! I especially loved noting how the devil’s expression/mannerisms changed depending on who he was talking to. It’s a minor detail, but it was really a nice touch that I appreciated. You did a fantastic job, you should be proud!
Yeah,, I noticed that too! For Mugman it seemed like the Devil had a more reassuring expression, as if telling him that it's the right thing to do. As for Cuphead, he has more of an intimidating look, it brings out the evil in the Devil more. It's almost the same for Dice, but the Devil looks far more manipulative at the end,, like how every media will portray their Devil to be. I also noticed how something about his expression makes it seem like he's offering something to Dice. This would match with the hugely popular headcanon that Dice also signed a contract saying he would be the Devil's "right hand man". It's cool how he seems to grow more and more malicious after every transition. I could go on about his mannerisms, but I'm sure you get my point?
Katie - it’s really interesting, your interpretations haha. I agree with him reassuring mugman, but for cuphead he looked more mischievous so as to entice him, though I definitely get the intimidating factor. For king dice it seemed very different, though, almost tender in the way he was dealing with him, especially since king dice is the only one portrayed signing the contract. But yes, I understand what you’re saying! It’s really fascinating and the detail to it is stunning
@@azura1823 I know this is super late but the way I interpreted it was he changed his expressions to match their personalities, and therefore get them to sign. I suck at explaining but Mugman is more reserved and insecure to an extent so he was reassuring, for cuphead he’s a very ambitious type and so the devil could’ve been acting more confident, and for king dice Ive got no idea, though then again this could 100% be wrong, just the way I interpreted the media and how the devil is usually portrayed as a snake so I thought i wouldn’t put it above him to change his demeanour to get someone’s signature :P
Mugman's encounter with the devil: gentle and kind. The devil sees him as a scared lost soul and gives him a caring look. Cuphead's encounter with the devil: proud and greedy. The devil sees potential in him and possibly even more. King Dice's encounter with the devil: sympathy and pleasure. Well you know by now that the creator ships these two. Sorry if that sounded harsh but still.

One thing I noticed is, how Mugman's part is more calm, while Cuphead is moving alot. He also has a very quick part where he looks like a Demon. Another thing I noticed is that The Devil has more sympathy for King dice, and when he's going to sign the contract, the Devil has pupils.
Okay, I know I'm late to this but I have a couple things to say. 1. I read the desc. Yes, it would've been cool to see King Dice in the Cupbros' place collecting souls for the Devil. But it's still an amazing animatic. 2. I love how sincere you make the Devil look. He looks sympathetic and caring, but as soon as they sign the contract he looks truly evil.
Well I mean it’s pretty common to draw cuphead and mugman like this. They become more human like.... so I mean it’s not just from casino cups. It’s kinda like drawing bendy from BATIM much taller than he actually is and less fat. So yeah I guess, not really sure why I wrote this comment because I’m sure you already know... I love the details in this! For example, how the devil changes based off who he’s trying to get to sign a contract. Like with mug man he was giving off vibes of I am very smart, knowledgeable and compassionate. For Cuphead it was more this is going to be fun and he’s a generally fun guy. And then for dice-kind of similar to mug man?…. Nevertheless, beautiful.
I love the bits with the Devil and the expressions! Also, this my favorite part of him, 2:09. You can actually see the Devil have some sympathy for Dice, and I love that.

After years of watching this beautiful animation, I noticed a detail I hadn't noticed before. The devil holds the contract of both cups for them to sign, while King Dice holds it in his own hands, alone, which would be an allegory to the fact that the devil did not have to manipulate it like the cups, but that he himself decided what path to take.
It kinda looks like the devil is trying to appeal to their personalities. Calmness for mugman, ambition for cuphead, and a sort of sympathy(?) for kingdice

With Mugs, he’s almost gentle, proving he can protect and provide for him and that he’s being honest. With Cuphead, he’s not hiding his malicious intent, but rather playing it off as a fun, pranking kind of mischief, like petty theft, something that appeals to Cups. He’s also rather show-offish on the “nobody got a thing on me” line. With King Dice, he acts sympathetic, and when Dice is signing the contract, he’s like “I’m so lonely, I don’t have any workers, please help me” but as soon as he signs he immediately is like “aight we’re partners now. go steal souls for me”
It's cool how they made The Devil have different expressions to the characters. Like for Mugman, he's gentle and comforting, telling him that it'll be fine. For Cuphead, it's like he's bragging/boastful like in the line "Nobody's got a thing on me" (Mostly). For King Dice, Well... He's his first person to be his right hand man. Since it was probably back in time when the casino first opened, The Devil asked King Dice to work for him (Yes, I know there's a comment similar to mine but... I also had the same idea)

Really, you do deserve all of those subscribers❤ Instead of just making a carbon copy of the characters, you add so much to them. You make them more likeable because they have their perks and their flaws. Not to mention the gorgeous art! I must say, you are such an inspiration to me.
I just noticed the different expressions for each of them- Mugman:almost like trusting Cuphead:confidence King Dice:Sympathy It’s a really cool detail!Also the way the devil is animated is amazing!
Ok this is my analysis of the Devil parts specifically. First, the backrounds; I like how Cuphead and Mugman both have similar backrounds when the Devil is seducing them to sign the contract, but with King Dice it's miserable and plain and simple and it really shows that he was in a bad place when the Devil came to him (which you might already know from the CasinoCups AU.) With Mugman, his expression is sympathetic maybe, reassuring kind of. Coaxing Mugman softly as to not frighten him, knowing that he's well aware of who he is and what the consequences are, trying to convince him that this is probably the best choice to make. What I also catch is how Mugman leans to the contract in the end, hinting that he indeed signed the contract and caved in. However with Cuphead, the devil is more arrogant? Cuphead is a risk taker, and the Devil is taking advantage of that by luring him in with danger, a high risk high reward flaunting thing, like when a kid is pushing and prodding at another kid to outdo him but doesn't actually think they can, it's like a pride thing. However, you will also notice that unlike his brother, Cuphead doesn't go in to sign at all, which hints that unlike Mugman, Cuphead has more doubt and more resistance to such persuasion. Finally with our King Dice, the Devil was very tender, quite gentle really, and if you know the story (from CasinoCups AU) then you know why. King Dice was in a perilous position, kind of a fragile state where people get spooked easily and make rash decisions, as to avoid scaring him, the Devil went in softly as to not come off threatening. Which worked effectively since Dice spent no time at all to sign, though this probably due to the fact that he had little to no other options. Not only is it canon in the CasinoCups AU, but it's also hinted with the lost expression King Dice has as he signs, also hinted when the Devil has to lift his head to gain his attention, showing that King Dice was too defeated to even pay attention to him. But with all three of them, the Devil grins behind their backs, showing us that these are all just the different ways, persuasions, and techniques that he uses to seduce people to sign. For each person, he uses a different method to persuade them and really hook into them, even if he has to pull strings or fake it. However with King Dice his grin was more satisfied, or maybe gleeful, hinting that maybe the Devil was really eager to get Dice to sign, or at least more eager than when he was with the boys, or perhaps there was more for him to gain from that deal than he led on. (Though knowing that BrightGoat is a DevilDice shipper I think we all can guess what that could be ;)

With Mugman the Devil looked sad and then sorry for him. Like the... "Oh poor kid he has no idea..." type sorry. With Cuphead the Devil had his evil grin and then a keen evil look. With King Dice he had an sad disappointed look then a sorry sad look
I like the difference in Devil’s attitude with the different characters! Mugman: it seems like manipulation or pity Cuphead: he looks like he wants to use him or something King Dice: he looks like he actually wants to help Dice and once he finds the power Dice holds he wants to harness it
Also, Cuphead of the three was the only one who didn't sign, that is, Mugman and King, given that Seles saw that if they signed Cuphead, that animation is not shown, as it was a bit complicated for him.😅

This really is stunning! I especially loved noting how the devil’s expression/mannerisms changed depending on who he was talking to. It’s a minor detail, but it was really a nice touch that I appreciated. You did a fantastic job, you should be proud!
Yeah,, I noticed that too! For Mugman it seemed like the Devil had a more reassuring expression, as if telling him that it's the right thing to do. As for Cuphead, he has more of an intimidating look, it brings out the evil in the Devil more. It's almost the same for Dice, but the Devil looks far more manipulative at the end,, like how every media will portray their Devil to be. I also noticed how something about his expression makes it seem like he's offering something to Dice. This would match with the hugely popular headcanon that Dice also signed a contract saying he would be the Devil's "right hand man". It's cool how he seems to grow more and more malicious after every transition.
I could go on about his mannerisms, but I'm sure you get my point?

I agree with him reassuring mugman, but for cuphead he looked more mischievous so as to entice him, though I definitely get the intimidating factor. For king dice it seemed very different, though, almost tender in the way he was dealing with him, especially since king dice is the only one portrayed signing the contract. But yes, I understand what you’re saying! It’s really fascinating and the detail to it is stunning

@@azura1823 I know this is super late but the way I interpreted it was he changed his expressions to match their personalities, and therefore get them to sign. I suck at explaining but Mugman is more reserved and insecure to an extent so he was reassuring, for cuphead he’s a very ambitious type and so the devil could’ve been acting more confident, and for king dice Ive got no idea, though then again this could 100% be wrong, just the way I interpreted the media and how the devil is usually portrayed as a snake so I thought i wouldn’t put it above him to change his demeanour to get someone’s signature :P

I love the details in this! For example, how the devil changes based off who he’s trying to get to sign a contract. Like with mug man he was giving off vibes of I am very smart, knowledgeable and compassionate. For Cuphead it was more this is going to be fun and he’s a generally fun guy. After years of watching this beautiful animation, I noticed a detail I hadn't noticed before.
The devil holds the contract of both cups for them to sign, while King Dice holds it in his own hands, alone, which would be an allegory to the fact that the devil did not have to manipulate it like the cups, but that he himself decided what path to take.

With Mugs, he’s almost gentle, proving he can protect and provide for him and that he’s being honest. With Cuphead, he’s not hiding his malicious intent, but rather playing it off as a fun, pranking kind of mischief, like petty theft, something that appeals to Cups. He’s also rather show-offish on the “nobody got a thing on me” line. With King Dice, he acts sympathetic, and when Dice is signing the contract, he’s like “I’m so lonely, I don’t have any workers, please help me” but as soon as he signs he immediately is like “aight we’re partners now. go steal souls for me”

It's cool how they made The Devil have different expressions to the characters. Like for Mugman, he's gentle and comforting, telling him that it'll be fine. For Cuphead, it's like he's bragging/boastful like in the line "Nobody's got a thing on me" (Mostly). For King Dice, Well... He's his first person to be his right hand man. Since it was probably back in time when the casino first opened, The Devil asked King Dice to work for him

Ok this is my analysis of the Devil parts specifically.
First, the backrounds; I like how Cuphead and Mugman both have similar backrounds when the Devil is seducing them to sign the contract, but with King Dice it's miserable and plain and simple and it really shows that he was in a bad place when the Devil came to him (which you might already know from the CasinoCups AU.)
With Mugman, his expression is sympathetic maybe, reassuring kind of. Coaxing Mugman softly as to not frighten him, knowing that he's well aware of who he is and what the consequences are, trying to convince him that this is probably the best choice to make. What I also catch is how Mugman leans to the contract in the end, hinting that he indeed signed the contract and caved in.
However with Cuphead, the devil is more arrogant? Cuphead is a risk taker, and the Devil is taking advantage of that by luring him in with danger, a high risk high reward flaunting thing, like when a kid is pushing and prodding at another kid to outdo him but doesn't actually think they can, it's like a pride thing. However, you will also notice that unlike his brother, Cuphead doesn't go in to sign at all, which hints that unlike Mugman, Cuphead has more doubt and more resistance to such persuasion.
Finally with our King Dice, the Devil was very tender, quite gentle really, and if you know the story (from CasinoCups AU) then you know why. King Dice was in a perilous position, kind of a fragile state where people get spooked easily and make rash decisions, as to avoid scaring him, the Devil went in softly as to not come off threatening. Which worked effectively since Dice spent no time at all to sign, though this probably due to the fact that he had little to no other options. Not only is it canon in the CasinoCups AU, but it's also hinted with the lost expression King Dice has as he signs, also hinted when the Devil has to lift his head to gain his attention, showing that King Dice was too defeated to even pay attention to him.
But with all three of them, the Devil grins behind their backs, showing us that these are all just the different ways, persuasions, and techniques that he uses to seduce people to sign. For each person, he uses a different method to persuade them and really hook into them, even if he has to pull strings or fake it. However with King Dice his grin was more satisfied, or maybe gleeful, hinting that maybe the Devil was really eager to get Dice to sign, or at least more eager than when he was with the boys, or perhaps there was more for him to gain from that deal than he led on. (Though knowing that BrightGoat is a DevilDice shipper I think we all can guess what that could be ;)
