  • Urumqi, also spelled Ürümqi, is the capital city of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China. It is the largest city in the region and serves as its political, economic, and cultural center. Urumqi is situated in the heart of the Dzungarian Basin, surrounded by mountains on three sides, including the Tianshan Mountain range to the north. The city has a diverse population, with significant Uyghur, Han Chinese, and Hui Muslim communities, among others.
    Urumqi has a rich history that dates back thousands of years, with evidence of human habitation found in the surrounding areas. Over the centuries, it has been a crucial hub along the ancient Silk Road trading route, connecting China with Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Today, Urumqi is a modern metropolis with a blend of traditional Uyghur culture and contemporary Chinese influence.
    The city's economy is driven by various industries, including coal mining, oil extraction, agriculture, and manufacturing. Additionally, Urumqi is a vital transportation hub, with an international airport and extensive railway connections linking it to other major cities in China and beyond.
    Tourism is also significant in Urumqi, with attractions such as the Xinjiang Regional Museum, which showcases the diverse cultural heritage of the region, and the nearby Heavenly Lake (Tianchi), a scenic alpine lake nestled in the Tianshan Mountains.
    However, Urumqi has also been the center of ethnic tensions and occasional unrest, particularly between the Uyghur population and the Han Chinese government. The city has seen efforts to promote stability and economic development while also facing challenges related to ethnic relations and security concerns.

    You have an amazing channel and you've narrated it so well. I had no idea Urumqi was so modern especially the railway station. I could spend hours in a museum like this!;

      Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right. We actually visited a big food court in the city and had a delicious meal there. I will see if I can make a separate video about that.🌹

    Don't write those words in the title, you can include them in the thumbnail. Someone who went on a trip before just said, "This is good," but ended up losing tens of thousands of fan accounts.
