Being part of color guard myself, I thought this documentary was very accurate and amazing!!! Color guard is difficult but it’s very fun! I would recommend trying out for color guard if you’re interested!
Hi! so i know i’m a little late to this lol but i just joined guard! i’m barley doing drop spins and figure 8’s but i agree it is hard! especially when you see the more advanced people doing all these special tricks. the season just started and i am so exited to see what comes in my guard career
RIGHT!! I was at practice and a percussion kicked my flag and I was about to whack him with it, IT WAS A PERFORMANCE FLAG then those freshman who are like "oh you guys just twirl a flag for 32 counts, why dont YOU try it.
hey, 14 yr old boy here, ive been practicing A LOT but its still really difficult. i actually hit myself with a rifle recently, doing a 45 and it made a big bump on my head. def not easy.
as a color guard myself, this shows how hard working and dedicated color guards are in their jobs especially the trainings and stuff, now if you'll excuse me i have to show this masterpiece to my younger brother who likes to make fun of my hobby >:)
I had a birth control implant my last year of hs color guard in my arm, (the nexplanon) and i took a break for the season, mid season, because i was so scared a pole or rifle would hit it 😭😭😭. I ended up breaking it out of the scar tissue doing actually nothing and ended up getting it taken out anyways 😔😂
As a guard member who is going to WGI this year and has experienced grueling Saturday practices that are 13 hours and other practice times, I’m very happy that people are shedding the light on the world of guard! I normally just get told by people “oh you’re the people who twirl those flag pole things and those wooden things” so it’s just a good change
As a former guard member, i can say full heartedly that this was an amazing representation of the beautiful that guard is. I was in my high school marching band’s color guard for 4 years and 1 of 2 captains for 2 years. I can honestly say that those were definitely some of the best years of my life. color guard molded me into a more confident individual. I graduated in 2019 and i have been looking back and reminiscing about those days. it was honestly a blast. #cg4l ♥️♥️♥️
This makes me so happy! Color guard has been my life for over three years but most people around me don’t really know what it is. I am really happy this is a thing
Idk if u remember me but I started watching ur channel a few months ago abt your video called “tips abt colorguard” and it actually helped me get into guard & I Love it. When I first started guard I was not good on learning new techniques but I started getting better on my tosses especially that was my biggest struggle In guard was learning new tosses. Band camp was 2 weeks, the first week weekdays was 8 hours & the second week on weekdays it was 13 hours. We would do our warmup block with the band like stretches & marching techniques & then we would sometimes have sectional time In the morning or after lunch. The Friday of the first week of band camp I learned drilling & I was soooooo confused because I’ve never did anything like this Like I didn’t know what back hash or front sideline was (btw I’m a freshman). Our theme for our show is called rule the world & if u want to see it look up on TH-cam WHS rule the world show (full show) & it’s on Collin nix TH-cam channel & it has twists that’s rlly fun. Thank you for ur tips & stay with that guard life bro😂😂💞💞
Oh my heart! 33 yrs later I’m still watching guard stuff and WGI. I miss those days. I have the best memories. I remember how many hours we put into a show and the pride of earning 2nd at WGI my senior year. Loved this video! ❤
I just found this and it’s really making me guard! I just graduated (class of 2021) and with COVID we didn’t get to do our normal senior stuff. I remember being a sophomore and couldn’t wait for the day I could do all the stuff the seniors got to do like give a speech on senior night, accepting trophies at competitions, and even walking bands to the field during our hosted competition! I also love that guard is becoming more popular! I wish the best for all the new color guard girls! It’s seems hard while your in the moment but it is truly amazing and I’m so glad I did guard in high school!
My daughter performed in color guard and graduated from Trumbull High School all the way back in 2011. I came across your video while reminiscing about those days. Great job! Color guard not only meant a lot to our daughter; it meant a lot to our whole family. You’ll take the lessons you learned from those years and carry them with you the rest of your life. As I have always explained to people on the outside, it’s the greatest form of entertainment you know nothing about.
Im in color guard myself and this is really actuate to it. I would have to agree that marching band is the best season! Ive started last year in winter guard and we are starting winter guard. Ive gotten close with a bunch of people in marching band and we’ve became a close family and its sad to know the seniors are leaving for this being my frist marching band season it was the best first season i have had and i would give anything to be with those people agian and perform and hangout with them. Ive had to wake up at six am and go to practice in the rain then have to perform it was hard but as family we got through it and made it to ACCs and got 8th place out of 18 bands. I love being apart of this sport (even tho it hurts sometimes and is stressful) i would recommend for anyone to join. -from a member of east panther band 💕
I joined colorguard like a month ago it’s so fun but it’s some work. This Monday we’re starting band camp. Right now I have no energy and I’m so lazy and unmotivated. I have a colorguard homework due today. It’s 4:31 pm but I’ve still not done it because I have no energy 😑
Just found this tonight and I absolutely love it! I’ve been doing colorguard for 5 years now and I’m currently in my first season with Fantasia winterguard and I appreciate this documentary so much! Glad to see my favorite activity getting some representation
This is very accurate, but I am surprised to see most bands practicing for marching band for 2 days a week, During marching band while school is in session, we practice after school, every single day. But during the summer, The color guard has a separate camp, then we have a camp with the band! I guess Mr.Armstrong has his own way of teaching the band lol. Mrs.Armstrong is way nicer tho, when teaching the color guard, and when Mr.Armstrong is out for the day, and she fills in for him, Sh gives us a lot more breaks, cause our camp days are like from 7:00 in the morning to about 7:00 in the afternoon! XD 😅🤣😵😓I still love it even when it gets stressful lol!
I love this, I showed it to my friends because they didn't tryout with me and make fun of me because of it, and I'm also really sad that they cancelled the rest of the season because of the Corona virus 💔
I’m joining color guard my senior year so I’m a little behind 😭 but this was super cool to watch! It makes me excited to see how I like it. Drum corps seems super fun too
You guys have a color guard class? I would love that! For fall guard, we have practice every day, and for winter guard we have practice 3-4 times a week, but we don't have a class.
Oo, interesting! I guess that's why we do less after school practices. Honestly, I probably would've preferred that because guard took up too many class periods for me and I couldn't do all the electives I wanted.
In my school district were you starte at 5th grade for a after school sport and i started in fith grade and im now in 8th i used to strugle because im about 4,11 and i was shorter when i started they said that i was good for my hight but i think this is vary cool to talk about what we do in gaurd like i do riffle and flag but i manly do riffle. I do colorguard and we have a smaller band but we did really good we got 2 place but one time we got 1 place I am so glad that I joined colorguard and u also can't forget about the familey and friend thing I joined so that way I have friends and a family and Because I wanted to try something new.
Hi I just wanted to say I loved this documentary about guard bc I'm new to it I've only down one season so far an I'm now going into my second year of my highschool guard an now a junior an I completely agree with you! One thing is I'm only in high school guard an it seems like you guys work way harder than the stuff I've did an I applaud you guys I hope to understand better an continue guard as it's become a passion to me!❤️
I'm a freshman going into my second year of color guard. I've only ever done winter guard, so do you have any tips on how color guard (especially marching season) during this pandemic, and keeping motivation up?
eek, honestly i'm not sure how marching seasons are going to look at all this year. i know the schools near me have completely cancelled champs and they're trying to put together a show that they can do without having all the students practicing together at one time. perhaps when it's safe enough, you and a color guard friend could practice a few feet apart (to socially distance) and that could help motivate you? you could also try to learn some random routines on youtube to maybe inspire you, like find some routines that you really really love. i would just tell you to push through, marching season was always my favorite season, so don't be too discouraged seeing how it's looking this year. in the years after 2020 (or after we find a vaccine, cross our fingers!), it will be so much fun for you, i promise.
Thank you !! People dont realize how hard it is i hairline fractured my shoulder because i my coach made the choreography more on that arm than the other one its not as easy as people think but it is so funnn
I hit the side of my head today tossing a horizontal on flag today 😭 this video made me cry for some reason. It really put into perspective how hard I actually work during colorguard. Most people do think it’s easy especially the band kids like they think they got it hard ✋🙄
This is my first year in winter guard. It’s obviously not that challenging compared to the clips in this video, but I’m learning. It’s really fun, and everything in this video was explained so well.
As someone who was a newbie about 9 months I've learned so much in that little amount of time. I promise it's worth it to join and gets you some tiring, but good exercise. Brace yourself for the bruises 😂🥰🥰
I like your explanations of the specific shows you're doing, but they're so brief. In the professional arts, performers care more deeply about the content of the show they're performing than they care about their technique and practice-- it's the number one reason they're out there. Show meaning. If you see a Hamilton behind the scenes, you don't hear the actors talking about the hours and hours they practice their vocal exercises. Instead, they're talking about the content of the show-- the hidden history, the inclusion, and even the sensitive subject of slavery. In Cirque du Soleil, the focus tips more toward technique rather than the thematic content of the show, but there's still a strong emphasis on the nature of the show and its message and how it reflects their lives and the lives of the audience. I'd love to see you do a documentary focused only on the content of the show-- the theme and what it means. No more talk about the tricks. No more talk about the difficulty or the gymnastics or the throws and catches or the precision or hours of practice. What does your show mean? Did you have a say in the subject matter that was selected? The more you build meaning into your show around the theme, the more ready you are for the professional arts where content is king. That's where you'll find the power of producing and impacting the way people think, not only in color guard, but on stage, in large scale concert settings, on film and on TV. That's where the power is.
Hi! This video was made for a class, and we had a time limit of 8 minutes. I would've loved to go more in detail, but I had to cut out a ton as it was. The video overall was just to give people a basic understanding of what color guard as a whole is, not meaning to focus on my team's shows. Just threw those in as examples for people that don't know a lot about guard! :)
@@MsAlison It's really thorough and explained well! I'm interested in your experience with Phantom Regiment's production of I am Joan. How was that show to work on? I find that I am Joan was a show that had a lot of focus on the meaning of the production and making it relatable and authentic to the performers. It seemed heartfelt and earnest, even though Joan of Arc was an eccentric, often bizarre character who is hard to encapsulate in an eleven minute show.
I MISS GUARD! 😭😭😭 (mind you my team was shite. we only practiced twice a week after school for one hour. lol) I wish there were super casual/ just for fun local adult teams for us 30/40 year old fogees!!! I still go outside and toss around the ol' flag n rifle when i get the itch! 🏳️ lol
i started guard in 2nd grade, so i’m 11 now and can do a quad on rifle 😃 i’m also working a ton on flag to improve. you should totally join! there’s so much to learn and to accomplish! -attie from kiski area colorguard :)
I'll always hate the fact that I can't do both of the things I love if climbing the ladder of one of them means leaving behind the other. Color guard will still be a part of who I am, I've just been dreaming about singing longer.
What I mean is, there's only 2 electives and unfortunately, singing is going to take up both from now on. Even then, I still have to jam in space for other classes that I see hardly any use for me in the future... HS is so frustrating.
Aa I’m doing color guard this year my freshman year till senior and in college, do you have any tips if you see this and can reply? We only work with flags thoug
Hi! I would recommend checking out my Color Guard Guide video: th-cam.com/video/8BRIsrZBNcc/w-d-xo.html It is a bit long, but there are time stamps so you can skip to the parts you want to hear. :) Good luck in guard!
I just finished my first halftime show with my school’s junior guard (middle school) and it was one of the most fun things I have ever done. I love performing more than anything. I have been in two musicals, I’m currently in choir and band, and I’m going to be signing up for winter guard next month. I’m so excited for when I make it to high school and get to do this for more than just one show
Being part of color guard myself, I thought this documentary was very accurate and amazing!!! Color guard is difficult but it’s very fun! I would recommend trying out for color guard if you’re interested!

I did but it’s not going well bc the captain and 2 other guard members dislike me and my friend and it’s kind of ruing it’s for me🙁
The 14 year old boys who think this is easy even tho they’ve never done it a day in their life need to watch this.
Literally they call us strippers and think it’s the “easy way out” of regular gym class where at most they literally just walk two laps

ME TOO oh my god. i left color guard so i could pursue all the other things i wanted to try.
Yeah, it just sucks that schools are like that.
i peeped a Columbians Drum and bugle corps tatoo at 6:34- ROLL ON FELLOW ALUMNI!!!!!!
my first day of color guard is next week and i’m so nervous about it knowing that i’m new and i’ll suck
you'll be fine! everyone starts out not really knowing how to guard; your team is there to help you!
How did you do?
my first guard practice ever is tomorrow after school.. wish me luck :)
good luck! good skills!
@@MsAlison

Hi! I would recommend checking out my Color Guard Guide video: th-cam.com/video/8BRIsrZBNcc/w-d-xo.html
It is a bit long, but there are time stamps so you can skip to the parts you want to hear. :) Good luck in guard!
Tryout for guard ‼️❤️
Oi! Why can't Color Guard be considered a sport!? I ask literally everyone! Color Guard is life! Color Guard is a sport! 🤣
remember that my friend got her tooth chip off after doing a 45😂😂😂😂
Omg I know you I competed against your school at 3:10 in the video that’s my school.

good luck! i'm sure you'll be great :)
@@MsAlison Thank you so much! I appreciate it 💖💖💖
I just finished my first halftime show with my school’s junior guard (middle school) and it was one of the most fun things I have ever done. I love performing more than anything. I have been in two musicals, I’m currently in choir and band, and I’m going to be signing up for winter guard next month. I’m so excited for when I make it to high school and get to do this for more than just one show
haha i broke my finger yesterday while spinning (tossing) rifle and that sucked XD
AHH omg, oof. hope it heals soon/quickly!
