I recall having the same issues with Thecus even when talking to them about a current model. Hopeless support, buggy firmware, flaky hardware etc. etc. I still have a rack here full of their N8800 units that we ended up taking out of service when it became clear that they couldn't be trusted for serious NAS use, and the company just couldn't be relied on for any meaningful support if a hardware failure ever put us in a data recovery situation.
Don't do raid. Raid is about up-time not data security. Rather than doing raid, have two different storage devices that sync data nightly (or how frequently you prefer). If a drive on one device goes pouf you have all the data on the other device. If a power supply goes pouf, you have all your data on the other device. If you accidentally delete the wrong files on one device, you have those files on the other device. If a lightning strike or a house fire takes out both devices, you wish you had a third device at a buddys house, so get one of those. Don't bother with raid for home use, have actual redundancy with more than one device.

Bro...do you even ESD :) I also hate peanuts (the styrofoam version, goober peas are yum)!
To say I'm grounded is an understatement!
