I even didn't know that a harpsichord can have so many timbres. And wonderful music, of course, thanks so much for another great and underrated composer!
I am so greatful for theses artists like Stella who go back in time and show us that baroque music is by far more than just Bach and Handel, Telemann and Scarlatti. Especially Reincken is a great discovery for me. Well done Mr. Stella! No showing off, just dedicated to the music. And thanks to Brilliant Classic for uploading this!
One tends to focalize any given period on a single or very few great figures. However, great musicians tend to appear in places and times where music flourishes in a culture or a society. One instance is the Vienna of the XVIII and XIX centuries; One focuses on Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, while there were thousands of musicians of high quality and music was a dominant part of practically every family life. Geniuses do not grow in complete isolation. Same thing happened in Germany, Bach was not an isolated phenomenon. He was the son of musicians and the husband and father of four great ones. His time was filled with organists and harpsichordists of the quality of Dietrich Buxtehude and violinists such as Biber, truly gigantic figures. Moreover, music was a significant part of life for most people, in religious services and in practically everybody's home. Music was (is) a dominant force in Europe until today. It does not surprise me to find, thanks to Brilliant Classics, a really significant musician such as Reincken; there were surely many more composers of the time deserving recognition and admiration.
Reinken was a very gifted composer and interpret. As an anecdote, he is told to have been able to sit at an organ, playing violin while playing the bass with organ pedals.
Echt genialer Virtuose!
Reincken? I didn't know, but a beautiful cover I thought, let's hear a little and let's read a little. Yes, the young Bach visited him in Hamburg, then I remembered the name, recently I read the biography of Bach - Thank you for always put the composer into context with other composers, within the musical history!!! That makes this channel so great.
This gives me a better understanding of the musical milieu that Bach was part of at the time. It reminds me of other great figures of the European Enlightenment: Kant, Newton, and Samuel Johnson, who were all geniuses able to take everything that had come before them, master it and expand upon it in new ways. Would Bach's achievements have been possible without the Buxtehude and Reincken to influence him? He obviously greatly surpassed both, but I think I can hear the influence. Newton famously said, "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
What does this even mean? This is incredible music and gives us an insight into the type of music Bach himself was familiar with. Your comment makes no sense sir..

Nowadays we dealing with Tiesto and Armin
@@MasterOZero I guess they represent the times we live in.

That was Nicolaus Bruhns, not Rincken.
he is an extremist, dans le bon sens du terme.

good harpsichord + organ + underrated composer made my day! Thanks Brilliant Classics!

Yes, the young Bach visited him in Hamburg, then I remembered the name, recently I read the biography of Bach - Thank you for always put the composer into context with other composers, within the musical history!!!
That makes this channel so great.
Well played! What a great composer. You can tell he was a big influence on J. S. Bach.
Excellent recording. I love the music. Wonderful coloration. You can see what Bach learned from this great master.
Brilliant. Reincken is unjustly neglected. This is music Bach must have been familiar with.
Very nice harpsichord music ! Thanks ! The picture is from Claude Lorrain - Landscape with Nymph and Satyr Dancing (1641)
The An Wasserflüssen Babylon is one of my favorites.
Beautiful and relaxing music. Thanks to all
Stella also did a nice job on the Froberger recordings.
Beautiful instrument with great tuning and played masterfully.
Je découvre avec merveille une oeuvre remarquable .
Very beautiful, Thanks!!!
