Seeing as Steve Baker (red) rode in the World Pairs final the next season and Sandor Tihanyi (who hit his neck didnt retire until 2005 I'd say those questions about life changing injuries would be put to bed by those facts.
Neither of them were badly injured. Baker qualified for the World Longtrack Final the following year, and Tihanyi (who hit the fence) qualified for two World Finals, and rode for another 20 years.

I love how casual the commentator was.. if this happened today it would be grave concern all around
Wow, that hurt my neck.
Wow Savage Man Hope they are ok ?
Wonder if they ever rode again, especially the whip-lashed rider, did he even survive without life changing injury??

Great update and good news Steve, well done mate for that information.@@stevebrown3559
good job it wasnt @ Exeter with its solid metal fence
Yeah I was standing right there on the first bend when poor Tony Sandford tried it
Romford Bombers was solid concrete. I remember Malcom Shakespear going in to it pretty much head first.
