Hey gamers. It's time I talked about Digimon. I want to get into the good stuff, but first we gotta start with some of the weird and bad stuff. Also please help I am hungry.
Guys I realize I said the wrong word for Yugioh. I even wrote Forbidden down I'm just really bad with speaking AND hearing I guess.
I have beef with Digimon World 4. Maybe you can cover that after the "Trapped in the Attic Arc" is over.

Eh, it opens up a whole lot more possibilities for character design and can be a lot more interesting than a regular human.
I've always enjoyed varied and creative design and my first crush was X-J9 so I'm comfortable with lots of those.
Stuff like Robots, anthros, fantasy races, demons etc just add a way to have more unique and creative designs. It's not that weird. :p

I actually used Romstation to go to the roulette shit, abusing load&save to get the best results.
At one point, I couldn't hit the 777, after 50 tries.
And my digimon turned into poop anyway !!

@Chippy Rin I have and you have a chance to be stun locked to death by the enemy cornering you and the enemies can hurt you by walking into you and if your digimon doesn't have a fire attack you cannot beat the third zone in the game and an electric attack is needed for a dungeon in the final level
@@brendan192045 you don't need a fire or electric attack per say, you can equip a fire or electric chip, which gives your weapons that element. (I've spent too much time playing this relatively mediocre game)

Too bad, I played like 300 hours of DMO.
It didnt even have that starting area at the time.
Played it from the NA public beta and suffered when the level caps were implemented on everyone.
Stopped playing 7 years ago and haven't looked back since.
Yeah, and the Engrish was no-existent. It's still a fun game, but it's kinda grindy now.

Good vid. Savers is one of my favorites from the series. I think the bad rep comes from its dub Data Squad, which has lots of edits. One notoriously re-skins a digimon into a fruit.
GamerWorlock If I remember right, it had to do with censorship issues, otherwise the episode would have been skipped over. So there’s that.
Oh, that makes sense, I saw just the name "Data Squad" and knew they F'd up my Savers, then I read a few summary changes. They Yu-Gi-Oh 5Dubbed my Savers (another great season ruined in the dub version for being way too adult for censors).
So Yokai watch with Jibanyan and he has like 50 reskins (fruits,recolors,redisgns, and the gem versions
@@ShinobiPhoenix-YT0 The dub is not actually bad, or at least it's only about as different from the original as any Digimon series (arguably it's less edited than Adventure/02). It's certainly not a 4Kids style censor-fest, the BomberNanimon episode notwithstanding (and even that really isn't a big deal, it's a mostly goofy episode in the first place). I've seen both versions and I liked them both about equally (that is to say, I thought they were both fine).
Is the second half of the show better in the original japanese?
At this point, any season other than Adventure 01 is underrated.

Tamers isn't underrated, everyone knows it and Adventure are the best ones. But yeah, all the others are divisive.
Adventure 01 is my favorite season (mostly for nostalgia reasons), but I also like Tamers and Frontier (the first halves anyway), I think Data Squad is underrated, I don't mind 02.

Just to name a few things the combat is boring, the story is nonexistent, everything is behind a paywall and it's super grindy.
Literally would've never even looked at it if it wasn't digimon and I'll never get back the money and time I spent on it.

I also liked some of the earlier Digimon Story games I played? Dusk. I liked Dusk. I am still kind of stuck, but I didn’t actually mess up and lose my progress, like I did in Cyber Sleuth when I didn’t know you need to save before plot important battles- in Dusk, if you lost, you are just woken up in bed by a Phascomon who says you were having a bad dream. Apparently it’s a Gatomon in Dawn? I didn’t expect to have to restart from my last save point, is what I’m saying, but then again, your body is in a coma and you might not be able to sleep, so... I have not gotten past the first fight where you infiltrate a business place, because I’ve not played in months
I only played two Digimon games. Data Squad and World 4.
Was World 4 too hard or was I just bad? I tried playing it again when I was 15 or so and I still found it hard.
I was gonna be mad about you exposing Digimon Card Battle but I can't do that to anyone defending 02, Veemon is the best partner and no one comes close.

You can **technically** play 2 player, but only on another person's save file on their memory card, but I don't remember if you even use different controllers or use the same one for each player.

Digimon Savers is great, especially in Japanese. Also Hirari.
It's OK but it's let down by Masaru/Marcus being an insufferable lead character.
@@Zomdra Yeah, Masaru can be annoying, especially at the beginning. But hey, at least he isn't as dumb as Tagiru from The Young Hunters Who Leapt Through Time (then again nobody is and ironically the first Digimon Xros had the smartest lead character in the Digimon franchise).

Savers was pretty good, and is tied with Adventure as second favorite of the anime seasons. However, Savers doesn't have the strength of character development like Adventure did.

I love Savers more than any other season. Frontier was not great, I don't even remember if I watched the end. XrosWars I finished but didn't feel like liked it as much as previous seasons, especially the weird switch of main characters.
I am minority apparently, but I don't like Tamers. I like Renamon, and the fact they literally had Kamen Rider as a Digimon, but I HATE Guilmon with a burning passion and he ruins the show for me.

Digimon Card Battle is absolutely a sentimental fav (along with Digimon World 3 aka Grind On, You Crazy Diamond) and quite frankly I have zero explanation for why I continue to replay it well into adulthood, but I also have zero shame about it. Make sure you fuse a Partner Finder before you fight the final boss!

it's a hidden gem and is even praised and respected by many of the japanese fanbase. Austin just couldn't get into it.
By the way, the PSP Digimon Adventure JRPG is legit good. There's an English translation patch somewhere on the Internet, but I played with the Italian translation patch, 'cuz I'm Italian.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the ABSOLUTE MOUNTAIN OF GARBAGE that was Digimon World 4 for the PS2. Seriously, that game is shit and one of the first, if not THE first instance of buyer's remorse for me.
Also finally someone agrees with me on the American theme song being bad. Thankfully the Italian theme songs for the first 4 seasons of Digimon were very cool and we kept the rest of the OST.

I could barely get through that game when I was young, glad I'm not the only one who thinks it was a terrible game.
It was one of the best co-op games on PS2! It's a rough start but it starts to get good after the 2 first dungeons. Where you start to understand the item system. Though the whole point of Digimon to digivolve, so i get why people don't like it. It may not be a good Digimon game, but it is one of the best co-op games on PS2! Maybe you don't like it becouse you played it solo?
As a kid I always thought the theme song was saying “digimon garlic champions” witch always made no sense.

I mean he's not evil per say. He was there to trim down the digimon numbers so that Yggdrassil won't be overloaded with data and caused a server crash. It's more like doing the right thing for with a bad method.

F ya the monster rancher tcg were fun and the playstation one kept with the disc scans to get new cards.i only played the one on the gameboy color i like how you have a team of 3 monsters and just a deck mix with their attacks.
I'm not any kind of huge Digimon fan, but Butterfly is such a good song that it's what wakes me up every morning. It's a battle between me wanting to turn the alarm off and go back to bed... and not wanting to make the song stop.

Real talk, one of my happiest childhood memories is beating Reapermon in Digimon Rumble Arena's arcade mode for the first time and running to my best friend's house to tell him about it. Plus watching him do it with Wormmon without digivolving to Stingmon blew my nine year old MIND

My dude, you have to play Forbidden Memories again. I love the nostalgia and I do have fun with the fusions, but Digital Card Battle is leagues better to me. I actually finish it 100% and played again right after that.

Austin don't sleep on Savers, a lot of people stop watching somewhere before episode 12 (me included) but after that they actually start with the story and it's good. Just watch the first 3 episode to find out who the main character are and after that jump to episode 12. I didn't regret it.

Omnimon/omegamon the goodess good guy? yes, but actually no. Old digimon world on the x-evolution story have a different look on him.
All Royal Knights Digimons are kinda douchey. Except Alphamon n Jesmon of course. And maybe Imperialdramon Paladin Mode. Still no backstory abt him/it.

i really liked digimon rumble arena for its simplicity and the digivolutions were game changers but not game winners
02 is fairly rated cuz it wastes so much potential I've said it before and I'll say it again: 02's biggest problem by far was just how much potential it wasted. It could have been a fantastic Digimon series, possibly even as good as Tamers, if they had bothered to fully capitalize on some of the ideas that they had presented.
There were a lot of really interesting things about 02 that made it stand out, including:
Having Ken as a villain who's not only human but is also another kid in school, who could thus easily infiltrate the heroes' mundane, real-world lives.
Having Oikawa as another human villain whose entire motive centers around fulfilling a dream he shared with Cody's deceased father, and who consequentially has to choose between fulfilling his ambition and putting his best friend's son in danger.
Having both human villains being much more sympathetic than any of the main villains in Adventure.
Introducing the concept of a global Digi-destined, establishing literally an entire world of possible adventures.
BlackWarGreymon, another sympathetic villain whose very existence questions if Digimon born from evil must remain evil.
Damn near everything about the Dark Ocean in episode 13.
The brief hint that beneath Kari's selflessness and compassion lie some pretty deep insecurities.
The slightly less brief hint that T.K.'s righteous anger could lead him to some very dark places if taken too far.
All of these things are ideas which, if they were more properly developed, could have led Adventure 02 to become a compelling series that not only subvert the tone and expectations of the original Digimon Adventure, but also deconstruct some of the fundamental premises of the series.
But instead we got a series that lost momentum after the Digimon Emperor arc and rapidly descended into an aimless clusterfuck. By the last two episodes
I dare to say, Rumble Arena on ps1 is actually pretty great.

I think the aesthetics of these games is very much a taste thing. Especially early ps1 titles all seem really great and nostalgic to me, but I find that people with a background in Nintendo don't appreciate is as much.

I played both as a kid and an adult, but I'm gonna have to fight you on that one.
Yeah Digital Card Battle had its nice gameplay and story, Forgotten Memories is just all over the place with a sloppy and dated gameplay (and I say this being someone who invested many hours in both)
I think many people don't like it because of it's "simple yet complex" mechanic.
Beginners would see the simplicity of the rock paper scissors and got bored easily.
But in reality, the game has more complexity.
For example:
- Each color has their own play style (Speed, Power , Defense, Disruption, etc).
- Option cards are Optional. Some decks depends on it, while others don't even need one.
- The rock paper scissors has a complex mechanism to add to it (Vampiric attack, Counter attack, Card effect negation (Jamming), etc.)
I could go on and on, but my point is that DDCB is good. It's just not for everyone.
He really butchered Digimon masters online... not saying its great but he really had no clue about that one before speaking.
... and he forgot DW4!

I remember the first time my friends and I questioned the quality of a game unanimously, doubted: "It can't be that bad."
It was DW4.
But it is one of the best hack and slash, co-op games on the PS2!

I loved Digimon Rumble Arena when i was a kid, i played the hell out of it.
I loved Digimon MMO. I had a te formed by my two favorite Digimon (UlforceVdramon and Examon) and was lots of fun for me.... Until the later levels are literally just log, do daily quest, do arena, MAYBE do event, log off.
Or you could sit in the middle of the main HUB screaming you want to sell the item for Lucemon Satan mode for 1m and be called a hacker it.... I just wanted to help 😭

The absence of Digimon World 4 is so prominent that it's looped around from being sad to hilarious and then back to sad.
This "trapped in the closet" season is weird, but in a good way.
savers is objectively one of the best seasons! (tamers is the best) also you might like digimon adventure TRI, good for you. but is actually one of the worst products of the franchise to come out, it literally chattered all adventure lore and also core digimon world lore and it made a lot of fans get tired of adventure already (also adventure is kinda everything that went wrong with the franchise because kakudo kinda made its own thing instead of adapting the V-pets storyline and also manga (digimon adventure V-tamer) properly and now because of that we have a lot of fans of adventure that only cares about what adventure made and hate all other products from other generations like for real, tamers, savers, xros wars, frontier even digimon universe have way more interesting stories and values to teach than adventure) hopefully the "supposely" last adventure product to come out "Digimon adventure Last Evolution Kizuna" does at least a good job at being a digimon anime. thanks yggdrasil we have the godly digimon cybersleuth games comming to PC, later digimon survive and also digimon rearise for mobiles right arround the corner :D and also the V-pets comming back, i wish i had a digitalmonster X :(
also i never understood this, the japanese version of the TCG is so interesting (i'm still wating for a new game, the only one beign digimon digital card battle and digimon tamers card battle for the Wonderswan color, imagine how well a new digimon japanese TCG game would work for mobiles! like yugioh duel links maybe.) was the american version changes? it wouldn't surprise to be honest xD
also, come on man digimon isn't a kid franchise, the adaptation for american audiences was, digimon is for kids, teenagers and adults. in fact the only "kid only oriented" product to come out was digimon universe and it still brough adult themes like how AIs work and the value of life with the enemy AI leviathan trying the most to complete its porpuse, save humanity from any harm. the series just didn't have blood in it but still was mature (in a lot of episodes, there's some bad decisions taken with that series, but is still enjoyable).

Calling the barebones grindfest of Forbidden Memories fun is a really bold move. What do you like more, the absolute lack of any effects rendering 90 % of monster cards useless, the pathetic drop system which will keep giving you random start of game junk despite wiping the floor with an engame enemy, requiring a literal million starchips to buy most cards that you can't get and even some really unexceptional ones, 5 starchips per duel, which leads to one having to grind all day every day for over 2 years to get *one* copy of *one* of these cards, no ability to sell the thousands of worthless junk cards you keep getting 60 + copies and making the in game card shop literally just the save point, there being nothing but the most linear of stories to follow with no additional quests, no bonus modes for outside of the main game, or the fact the useful card selection and available fusions are so limited literally everyone who plays this game will just have a Two Headed Thunder Dragon deck cause there is nothing else you can even go for until you grind say a Low Meado mage a few hundred times for one Meteor Black Dragon ? : P
But hey, at least they devoted most of the disk space to something far better.....3-d models and win/death animations for every single one of those dozens of useless monster cards with absolutely trash stats you will never use after the first five duels.
Digimon Rumble Arena was a perfect fighting game for children, very simple and easy... Until you hit the final boss, that's it, that bastard has no mercy.

Digimon Rumble Arena is a great game, and it actually has a lot of combos. The combo system is extremely fun to play with imo. Would definitely recommend searching "Digimon Rumble Arena Combo Video" into youtube if anyone's curious about it.
yes, it's actually a simple game that had pretty much things to discover. In here rumble arena is much more popular than games like bloody roar.

Freaking- I loved Digimon Card Battle as a kid! I had so many memories with it growing up! I remember when I got stuck in the boss fight against Apocalymon in the final stage when I accidentally found an exploit with Flamedramon that easily carried me through the battle and won. Good times...

I played Digimon Cybersleuth and my digimon tuned into the poop monster.
Then I saw that the poop monsters increase the exp or money you earn in combat and they are actually amazing and one of the only champion mons worth keeping through the entire game.
Now I like the poop monsters.
Season 2 is absolutely solid, Ken is an amazing character. That said... I'm really curious about the attic narrative going on through the last few videos.

Austin, my man! Butterfly by Wada Koji is definitively better than the American version's intro. And it is really sad that there aren't many good Digimon games.
DMO is not as terrible as you make it sound, if you just want an RPG to mess around, get your favourite digimons and explore some of the show's locations it quite delivers, especially considering the lack of Digimon titles for PC.
The gameplay is just endless grind, so it's more of a relaxing side activity or themed timesink than something you want to get good; there is some form of raid scene and bosses but for the most part it's terribly spread out and requires infinite grind so I wouldn't recommend going near that. - Just grab some of your favourite digis, level them up and watch them evolve, and mess around. Would recommend giving it a chance if you like digimon, mainly on Omegamon [steam server], however it's a themepark, not a deep fulfilling mmo experience.
Battle Card is one of the best card game based video games though, and not glitch/grind heavy like the Digimon world 1-3 games
