    I’ve been riding for 10 yrs and owned several different kinds. I picked this exact bike up last yr and agree very much with the review. It’s not coolest I’ve owned or the fastest but has become the best overall bike I have owned. Great review!

    Which basically is to say, this bike lends itself to some “personalization”. An upgraded shock, get rid of the rear tail thingy, a few mods and there you go! Maybe not quite the “SP” version they have in Europe, but for about $1000.00 you can make this bike your own!
    Good job Arie!

    The traction control has saved me so many times, the most recent was this morning, a freezing -3 degrees, I was joining the motorway and twisted the throttle to fit between two cars in the lane... The back went sideways twice but quickly regained control , absolutely fantastically balanced bike

    Yes! So yes on that horn. I have a tracer 700 and I don't think I've ever managed to hit it when I've needed to. The problems even worse with Yamaha heated grips which puts your hand even further from the button

    Agree 100%. I've owned two FZ-09s. A 2015 that was written off by a minivan at 70km/h (still have my leg yay! Probably knee replacement by 50 boo!) and a 2017. The 2017 is better but still has its quirks. Replace the the rear shock and stiffen the fork for better overall suspension performance and the smiles just keep coming every time you twist the throttle. Put a pipe on it as well. The sound of the CP3 motor is AMAZING. Signals, seat, styling are all to taste. Don't let them deter you from the bike.

    I 100% agree about the horn button. I had an XSR900 for a while and I never got use to it. It was even more difficult with thicker gloves for cold weather.
    When you said one of your favorites was the switch gear the first thing I thought of was the horrible horn placement but then you brought it up as FAIL. Great, I'm not the only one.
    I now have a 2014 Valkyrie and it has the turn signal and horn buttons flipped. A lot don't like it but I really prefer it. I must be the only one that likes it. I use turn signals much more often than the horn so I find the button to be more convenient on the bottom. The horn button is still easy to find and press even with thick gloves because the buttons are "Jitter Bug" big. Just my perspective.
    I really enjoy all the videos you guys put out and I watch your stuff more than regular tv. Keep it up!

      If you are willing to pay the affordable price for this bike you can just update the “missing” components by replacing what you feel you don’t like. Fixed mine by upgrading the front forks and and ECU flash...plus all my other mods. You know you don’t keep a bike stock. I ❤️ my FZ-09😊

    I would love to know how the Yamaha compares to a Triumph Street Triple. I love my Yamaha’s, owned several but my last bike was a ‘12 model Street Triple R and was by far the best bike I have ever owned. Perfect throttle response!

    • @AriH211
      @AriH211 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zack Courts and I wrote a feature for Motorcyclist magazine comparing the FZ to the new Street Triple RS. The Triumph outclasses the Yamaha and is half again more refined, but we still love the raw attitude of the Yamaha. I agree, the throttle response on Triuph's triples is the bar by which all others are measured.

      Americans and their over cocky attitude for no reason what so ever. There is no difference between MT and FZ, it's a shame you don't even own SP, so you could have at least a reason to complain about something. I hope you don't use Akrapovič on your bike, it's European thing, god forbid! Cock snot...

    • @stevenc8140
      @stevenc8140 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FireLysm sorry Fire L I’ve owned two FZ09s. And I built (upgraded) both of them. The yellow 2015 I owned was a good machine I added upgraded parts to every major mechanical system. Including the fork suspension which I did myself. $3000 (which is not much) was the final tab. What did I learn? I spent too much for silly (labeled comforts!) LIKE a SP! Now I own a much better/Faster 2017! Instead of slapping a M4 slip on at $450 (waste of money!) I built mine with a muffler (Carbon Fiber) from eBay for $50. Bought the extension pipe from Pep Boys for $33. And had a welder connect the two ends (Very nicely) for $50. Because I’m married and on a strict budget. I’ve spent $700 (Total so far) in sliders. $17 for a fly screen and black handlebars for $19 just to name a few. I also added a two row (8 beams each) led light system that mounts right under the daytime running light trim for $30 from Walmart. Heated grips surpasses any package that a SP would have! Do I have the clutchless shifting? No! But ANYTHING a SP has designed, I have surely surpassed it. What’s next? Flashing the ECM. And installing a Power Commander. Do I need it? Hell no! But why not. Oh and this Review of My 2017 FZ09. Was objective-subjective accurate and Right On! NOW... it’s I wish I had a 2019 FZ09! Or My Bad! MT Euro 09.. oh and laugh at yourself once in a while.

    • @stevenc8140
      @stevenc8140 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FireLysm I would NEVER throw $1200 out the window on some Commie Exhaust system! I learned my lesson on FZ 09 project #1. Having instead to reupholster the piece of concrete that thinks it is a seat for $150. Then I wouldn’t need a cane to get off the bike. The 2015 was a very unrefined bike. It is not until 2017 that this (initially throw away bike) was seriously upgraded by Yamaha because of the two letters I sent along with the other 200,000 they got from FZ Riders world wide! How many Yamahas has your parents. Sorry I meant that you have purchased? How many have you built or added stuff to? Please FireLyn. Don’t burn yourself answering! ALL OF TH-cam World is waiting with baited breath!? Did you vomit! Or was that just a BURP!? Well....? Anytime Kelly!

    A big fail that wasn't mentioned is the headlight beam pattern at night. If you are in the city with lots of street lights, then no problem. If you are on a dark curvy road at night, then big problem. The headlight beam pattern is terrible in the dark and in a curve. If you do a lot of riding at night on dark roads you will have to add a good set of LED auxilary driving lights to the bike.

    A major fail (IMHO) is the low service interval of 4K miles (on both the MT-07 and MT-09) while others are at least 6K miles. One reason I'm seriously considering trading in my 2016 FZ-07 for a Triumph bike is the large service intervals and the better quality components.
    A major fail (of the FZ-07) is the dashboard location on the handlebar. It would be nice if there was some way to relocate this.
    A major fail (of the FZ-07) is the smaller than spec gas tank size. I completely ran out of gas and was shocked when the gas pump showed 3.3 gallons when I completely filled the tank (right at the top of the filler tube but not over it).
    A minor fail (of the FZ-07) is the cheap and seemingly fragile ignition key, the terrible ignition location and the crazy engine braking (which I believe only happens in the lower gears and under certain conditions but I'm not sure and I don't recall since I've conditioned myself only to engine brake at 4th gear and above and use the clutch and brakes at lower gears).
    A major fail of the MT-09 (for me) is how it looks, especially with the engine and other "naked" areas that should highlight the structural beauty. This is one major reason I got the FZ-07 over the FZ-09, even though the FZ-09 ergonomics is better for me (especially when doing long distance riding).

    I test road a guys FZ09 for over an hour. The thing was a very fun bike to ride. The suspension though is just utterly terrible. I found some twisties and the bike was so TWITCHY in them. It twitched due to the rear shock then stood up! Thought it was all over when that happened. Needless to say maybe the SP is worth it but the standard is a no go for me. I topped off the fuel tank and returned it to the owner saying it has good aspects but I cannot get over the suspension.

    Any chance you could do a video on engine coolant? Like is it ok to run coolant that is acceptable for the track year round or do you have to worry about corrosion? And is there a coolant that will actually help your bike run cooler like engine ice and different additives? Do they actually work? Thanks.

    • @HuangHangLo
      @HuangHangLo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of my good buds just bought one of those within the last month and he really likes his. In all honesty though, there are times when he does feel like he should have gone with a naked bike over the Vulcan S though. With a top speed of less than 110 mph, he realized real quick that he wasnt going to be able to hang with the guys on spirited freeway rides. Also, the Vulcan S, though a sport cruiser, is still a cruiser so fast runs on twisties are not easy without scraping peg at slight lean angles. My buddy has mentioned a few times now that the forward controls get old quick and aren't as comfy as he hoped they'd be. One last thing: aftermarket support sucks with the Vulcan S. Not much out there (even in the exhaust dept.) Btw, the stock exhaust is terribly big and looks horrible. The cat is completely visible from the left side and it looks like shit.
      It's definitely a beginner bike. No doubt about that. My advice: Go with a naked bike.
      Comfort+Capability=Naked bike

    Traction control 1 is okay and does let you loft the wheel like you said, but it'll kick in sometimes when the wheels in the air, slamming the front end down, which is not too fun. I've been shutting it off completely in town and turn it on in the twisties

    Strongly considering this bike at the moment. Ari, do you have any experience with the ZX6R/ZX10R shock swap? Wondering if it truly transforms this bike as everyone claims. After adding an aftermarket shock, do you think the front would be ok? Also, what's your best recommendation to get rid of throttle twitchiness besides a dyno tune if you have personally tried one? Seems like an ECU flash could be a good option.

    Omfg that horn button. Nice to know others have the same issue. It gets even worse if you put the Yamaha heated grips on, because the grip's control puts the horn button further away.

    Tell me, does traction control prevent the front wheel from lifting? And they also have an error in the instructions for setting up the front fork: 11 clicks - soft, 11 - medium, 0 - hard. I wonder what's right?

    Should have raised the forks as the factory did for 2021, then tune suspension - a big wow - to be had, tune for the rest.

    I got to ride an FZ09 at a Yamaha event a few months ago, and the small switchgear was one thing I didn't like. I thought it made the bike seem cheap. Also, they had a Yamaha accessory "aftermarket" pipe on it which stuck out like a sore thumb at a 45 deg. angle.
    How about favs and fails on the Tuono!

    I have two BMW motorcyle and the horn switch is in different places...so I hit the horn on one when I am going for the turn indicators and the other, I miss almost every time...would be nice if there was some consistency on this.

    The European bike has slightly better turn signals. There also an accessory license plate holder that is on the standard location.
