I had to do this exact modification when my HUD mirror kept falling down. You couldn't even see the display without touching your head to the roof. Good explanation, keep up the videos!

Thanks for the useful information on how adjusting the HUD when installing the mirror. My car only has 60K, and it has a broken hud and climate display.

the 3rd thing that can go wrong is the gear the runs the mirror stripped out... my dealer found a complete HUD. cost me $350.00 and they charged me $500.00 to replace... best thing i have ever done... the chevy dealer in s. tacoma, wa. is awesome

When the gear goes out, it means when you moving the head up display up and down that means it won’t move right it just shows on your windshield ?

I wasn’t expecting that FJ to be absolutely sent to the moon in the outro. Excellent work sir

I bypassed the light sensor. Cut the 2 wires, connected them together. Now I'm in control of brightness. Thanks :)

I replaced my ignition switch and fixed the HUD. Took me about 8 hrs. Thanks for the video :)

So I doubt you will see this but I have a 05 c6 and the heads up on has worked once since I got and it wouldn't adjust at all. And I figured the c5 and 05 c6 hud is probably the same

Hi, my c6 hud has 3 solder points on the photo cell. Think it's okay to solder across the 3 points to negate the photo cell? Thanks!

Please Help if you know how to fix the photo resistor the non cheapo way?
🙏🕜👨‍💻 (Dash is completely out... mirror pivots)
Any link to this photo resistor would be greatly appreciated!

I fix my HUD by replacing the plastic screw with stainless steel screws.

I miss my hud. It broke last summer. Haven’t gotten around to fixing it.

How much would you charge me to fix my HUD and my digital read out for my climate control?

Is it possible to mod an E46 dash so that it will be illuminated all the time? (Even without turning on the headlamps)

Hi Zent... are you around? Would really like to do this on my C6 but want to make it will work.
I have heard they are similar... both C5 and C6 have 2 wires that go to the photo resistor but the C6 has 3 solder points where the C5 has 2. Looking more closely at the C6 photo resistor, two of the points eventually go to the same trace on the circuit board. Which do I solder together? Does it matter? Will it work with the C6? Thanks!

I bridged the two contact points of the photo resistor. I would do a test before you make it permanent. Also important to note that I had to manually dim the HUD at night because it was very bright after eliminating the photo resistor.

@Zent Rose Hey, thanks for the reply! I guess I'm trying to be proactive about this since I do have it apart now. I don't think I'll mind having to manually dim the hud at night. Not sure how I can test it with everything apart. Is it okay to plug in the hud only while other components are unplugged then connect battery to test? Along those lines... I need to connect power to move my steering wheel away from the dash. Is this okay to do while the dash is apart (c6 has manual tilt but electric telescope)?
What if I covered the photo resistor with some black rtv instead of soldering? What will happen if I cover the resistor for now, put it all back in the car, then the photo resistor fails later on? Thanks for your information!

Hi Zent, I’m having the dim HUD problem. Just to be clear before I proceed, you solder the two point together that are closest to the wire coming off the mini circuit board?

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I don’t remember but I believe I bridged the photo resistor. I think the correct way would be to replace it. I had problems with this fix at night time and had to manually dim the hud

My display works but light has dimmed about 50%, this just started. Any thoughts?

usually this is the photo resistor that fails and causes this
