Well, I just checked my first batch of cantalope from last week. Already went soft in the bag just like all my apples have. Did these keep well for you?
They kept fine. Your timing was good! I still had one last bag of cantaloupe left from this batch. (6-6-2020 - Batch 301) I just opened it and checked it - Still perfect, crisp and crunchy. I could make a short video showing it if you would like to see it. (I resealed the bag) I had found that cantaloupe seems to be one of those foods that seems to dry slowly, especially if it's not cut relatively thin. It's very important to do a careful _Dry Check_ when doing cantaloupe.
He has an older model, - not sure if they were sending the insulating pillows then. Use the insulating door cover, it helps keep the cold in the chamber. How long have you had your dryer and what size do you have? I've had my large dryer and oil less pump since December 2018. I've processed over 2600 pounds of foods. I do like cantaloupe - I will have to give it a try. I think I can fit 2 melon's on a tray.
The dried cantaloupe is pretty strong and holds up well to being bagged. Our machine also came with the pillow for "insulating." However, they don't actually seal so I'm not convinced that they would do as good a job as a second layer of plastic with a space between them. (think jet plane windows) I made the plastic disc for the window and it seems to work better than the pillow did. Plus I can shoot video through it while in operation.
SchoolReports I’m getting ready to do a batch of watermelon and cantaloupe. I like the idea of how you cut your cantaloupe. I have a very sweet tooth, so I think I will like the watermelon 😉. Oh, and by the way. Great job on the plastic insulator 👍. Can you describe the procedure to construct it sir?
To like these you have to REALLY like cantaloupe flavor. They had a very strong cantaloupe flavor. If you don't love strong cantaloupe flavor, I'd say only try a small amount. I didn't care for watermelon and I'm not sure I would do it again; I found it to be sickeningly sweet, like strong watermelon flavored sugar or cotton candy. Other people said they liked it.
Yummy, I do love cantaloupe. Thanks, I may not have thought about FDing cantaloupe, but it’s another of my favorites!
It's so good! Very intense flavor.
Must say I've never seen a cantaloupe processed that way. Very clever.
What settings did you use? How long? This is my favorite freeze dried fruit. Season about over for them where I am.
Interesting - I like cantaloupe, I'll have to give it a go.

Nice
Don’t they break inside when sealed? Where did you get the plastic inside window? Mine came with the pillow.

Handyman! I tried watermelon 🍉 it was to sweet.
I agree. I freeze dried a small sample of watermelon, and no one liked it as it was too sweet. I am going to try later with one that is less sweet.

@@SchoolReports me too. I threw it out. Thank you
Thank you for the video, but you do know. You can you can squeeze the air out of your bags before you seal them.
