    Those would be good to powder and use to flavor quick bread also. Maybe even to put in smoothies. Pancakes or waffles!! That would be good also!

    This seems like a start to baby food in some way. Making freeze dried fruits into powder and adding a bit of water to make baby food. Usually you would blanch the fruits and veggies for baby food so I'd start there. 😊

    I have a question just about checking food when your close to end I seen another person and only one so far wondering if this is the right way or not
    This guy opened valve drain than turned pump off and opened the door is this how you check your food when closed to the end
    Thank you I love that you reply to people so many others don’t
    Thank you
    I just got my freezer dryer I have had it 4 days I’m learning and your great thank you

    • @DIYfreezedry
      @DIYfreezedry  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh thanks for watching I appreciate the nice comment 🥰 So when I want to pause the freeze dryer and check the food, I usually press the leave in the upper left corner, then open the drain valve, that allows you to open the door. If you want to have the food go longer the screen gives you options and I select “add more dry time” then increase how much longer I want it to go. If it’s done I you can choose defrost your machine or no defrost.
      That usually works great for me! Good luck with your new machine!

    Cool idea. I dont eat a lot of fruit, but now that my cousins are having babies I’m thinking these would make great snacks for the kids when they are over for a visit. And every once in a while it is nice to have a different flavor in something sweet as a treat as well so I’m really curious what this would be like as simple desert like rehydrate the fruit to be chopped and served with whipped cream. It looks like the texture would hold up from what I saw here.

    • @DIYfreezedry
      @DIYfreezedry  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve always done the opposite - normal mode for candy and fast for food. No idea why just was thinking would help the drying time go by faster with the long freeze dry runs. But I’ve never tested doing it the other way, I’ll do it next time!

    Just remember, you can always powder your Freeze Dried Food & use it in Ice Cream, Baking, Protein Drinks, etc. When I make Homemade Almond Milk, I take the Almond Pulp & Freeze Dry it & then use the Freeze Dry Almond Pulp in my Protein Drinks. You can even use powdered Freeze Dried food items such as pickles, to make Dips, or put it on popcorn or Cottage Cheese, etc. Think Smoothies, Pies, Ice Cream, Lattes & anything really you want to add a certain flavor too, Hope I have just blown your mind with creativity - LOL!

    I’m heading to harvest right for about two months now and it takes me over a day to do a batch of fruit. In your initial settings, you had it sit for six hours and then you said it took over 24 hours. What is the six hours for a different process I’m not aware of?

    • @DIYfreezedry
      @DIYfreezedry  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jasonkustra5671 the 6 hours is extra dry time - so the machine does its full process and senses when the food is done (which is the 24 hours or whatever the timing was) then the 6 hours I set is extra on top of that bc a lot of times the machine thinks it’s done when it’s really not so it will continue to dry as long as you set it for

    Unless you are camper, this completely defies the wonderful seasonal possibilities of harvesting fresh produce at it's peak with all the vitamins and health benefits. This only adds to the robbery going on online. Selling freeze dried when it's really dried canned or frozen. If you all think that's ingenuity good on you.

    • @TobyMichaelPortableTechReview
      @TobyMichaelPortableTechReview 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Maybe I’m misinterpreting your comment ? I appreciate her testing this for us. Unless I missed something I didn’t hear her mention anything about selling it. She explained with her location fresh fruit is very expensive and this is a cost saving way to eat a slice or two while having it stored long term. The comment just seemed negative for no good reason.

      @@TobyMichaelPortableTechReviewYes you are 100% right. I think I over reacted to all of the people online selling freeze dried products that they get from a freezer or canned. I am frustrated that pulling us further away from our food source is concerned creative or innovative.

    ABSOLUTE USE THE WEIGH OUT METHOD EVERYTIME. The last thing you want is get down the road in an emergecy or you just want a snack and you open up your bag and there mold or something wrong with the food... Which would be because they were NOT absolutely dry. Spend the extra time to do it right.

    How people think it saves money is strange to me . A small one $2800 plus electric, maintance no way you will get cost back. It would take years before one would see any savings so I will stick with dehydrating. A guy does a review and tells us not to buy and why.
