Mindanao, Philippines - I am still in southern Philippines with Crishel from the TH-cam channel @filipinalife. We explored around the village when we stumbled upon a popular event going on. I have never been to this kind of event before, but I know it's super popular all over the Philippines. But it's also quite controversial and I wasn't sure if I really wanted to see it. This is also my last day here in the province and after exploring around a bit more I invited Crishel's family for dinner to thank them for being so hospitable to me.

Man, it's like you're a celebrity there when you entered the event place!😂 I've had fun in Cebu and recently in Manila, documenting and sharing my experiences on my channel, but sadly missed out on Mindanao. The place looks beautiful, and the culture is fascinating. I don't think I could sit there though, just basing it off your facial expressions, lol. In malaysia, chicken fight is not allowed. If I am not mistaken, you could get into jail for doing this because betting is also not allowed. It used to be our culture too but now it's forbidden.

When we talk about islands, the Phillipines one of the best islands in the world in Canada the water is so very cold not unlike in the Phillipines so warm water
where in mindanao is this ? if your close to Davao city you should visit there, anyway if you go to the airport there.

It is my first time to see Crishel's place, looks truly crude, so undeveloped . Unfortunately so many places in the Philippines that are still undeveloped. I am a fan of Crishel's vlog. We call that sabungan, cockfighting was what you watched. I thought it is illegal in the Philippines unfortunately a lot of rich people in the Philippines can get away with anything. I saw cockfighting in the road with no blade however never in the arena, too much noise for me and the blood of roosters.........ayyyyyyyy, not my type of entertainment as a Filipina though I know one of my brother breeds for cockfighting. Waste of money for me to bet in cockfighting.

Cockfighting is also done in Sarawak. It is a tradition of the Iban people. However, it is only allowed during specific festival of the Iban people and organisers MUST get police permit (well regulated and gambling aren't allowed). In other words, in Sarawak... cockfighting events aren't done regularly but more as part of the tradition. Sometimes longhouses would make a simple symbolic cockfights without the spurs and just have a few fighting... nothing really serious. In his younger days, my father was an avid participant of this sport and from what I learned, the losing rooster would be the one that cower away or injured and unable to continue fighting. I remember my father nursing some of his injured roosters. The badly injured ones do tend to go into the pot.

Actually, cockfighting is a culture, just like bullfighting in Spain. If we have to speak from a humanitarian perspective, I think bullfighting is even more inhumane than cockfighting.

I've just spent 2 weeks in the Philippines and couldn't wait to get to Thailand before home. The Philippine food was just so bad. I've never seen so many short fat people in one place. Obesity and diabetes are a real issue there.
