You can switch to PC for meals without a violation. I'm not sure if you get by with it while connected to the trailer but who'd know unless you got checked while moving.
Thanks for the info. I've been following you for a bit now. I'm a rock hauler over here in Central Texas and thinking about getting into RV transport. You answered a question I had, on this video. Be safe out there!
With an ELD if you have to move your truck you can go into personal conveyance and move it to a different spot in the parking lot and that is perfectly legal. Also if you use your truck for personal reasons then you can use personal conveyance and it won't affect your DOT hours
Have you read the FMCSA for use of yard move? My company frowns on PC also get the wrong DOT officer and he could try to fine you for using PC to move around a truck stop.
also with the ELD since that is your personal truck if you are home and you're going to be pulling your own fifth wheel or travel trailer and go on vacation with your family you can use your own truck under personal conveyance without having to affect your dot out
You said that one load was an ELD load. Aren’t they all ELD loads since you’re on the 70 clock when you start? Or what’s the difference between an ELD and non ELD load?
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 I’m still a bit confused. I run an ELD so any time the truck moves it records it as well. You’re running on a 70 hour clock and have 11 hours of driving daily when you’re pulling rv’s so that’s technically considered running an ELD isn’t it? I would think Horizon or anyone else would require logs of sorts if driving commercially. Or logs not required when transporting rv’s?
Yes and no. If you’re “non ELD” it’s like paper logs. Just an app you manage and you tell it when you were driving or loading or whatever in stead of it logging driving automatically
@@fairwindsfollowingseas7909 ok gotcha. I use the Keep Truckin app and you’re allowed to select “leave vehicle” option while you’re connected to the vehicle through the ELD. Then you can manually select any status including driving and still be able to edit all entries including driving times. Great content on numbers of rv transport and keeping it real when it comes to expenses. I’ve seen someone else brag huge profits not factoring in the truck payment, insurance and general maintenance (oil changes and fuel filters). I’m undecided when it comes to either semi power only drop and hook or rv transport. Little more money in semi but also comes with added costs
The ELD Fair Winds is talking about is the Electronic on board recorder. If you haul under 26,001lbs you don't have to have it. But as he said in the last video certain trailers require the Electronic on board recorders. It also has to do with how your truck 🚒 s tagged. Commercial and Appointed require the Electric on board Recorders. Please Fair winds correct me if I'm wrong.
It's really easy. I built a frame with legs and put a hinges in the middle so I can fold it in half to easily get it in and out. Since my truck is used to haul family around also.
trying to follow the hours thing. what if you drive all week, get back home and you want to take a vacation to florida. are saying you cant drive your "work truck" bc its logging the driving hours and it will look like your driving when you are supposed to be not driving? even if someone else, say the wife, is driving the truck down to florida for the family vacation? if so that means the truck can basically NEVER be used for private stuff?
Do you have to have the DOT sleeper bed? I didn’t know if the DOT gives you any problems I watched Transport Bandits video and they had Dans service put on in there truck.
I would love to know how many idle hours your truck has on it. Not sure if ford has that on the display, I know the ram does, but I am guessing the Ford (street walker) doesn't get turned off much. Good info as always.
Actually as I’ve discussed several times I don’t idle her very much. She’s at 604 idle hours. Usually around 2-3 idle hours a day. Morning warm up, 1 fuel stop, and cool down after parking for the night
Just got my approval letter for Horizon. I live in Alabama. I plan on doing exactly what you said run the board till it gets me home. Really enjoy your videos !
I am 22 and have a 2018 2500hd (gas) I live in Florida and pull trailers all the time and my dad worked for Indiana transport a while ago. I seen on horizon website that u can have a gas truck (true or not?) and u can start at the company at age 23 . Can anyone plz give me insight on the company and what is my best way to enter Rv transport. Thank you and drive safe 👍🏻
@@JeremyEch33 interesting. I was thinking of getting into rv hauling but might be a no go cause I'm only 20.. i did hotshot hauling in 2019 but it was through my cousins business and I was only 18 some of the time. Pulled 20ft or 30ft bumper pulls and woulda pulled gooseneck but i had a gas 2500 and didn't have a gooseneck ball
I live in TX and was really concerned. I do have a "home base" I can use in MO which is the half way point to IN. Get any loads to TX from out west? A 2000 mile pull out there from IN and then another back to TX from your area would be cool.
Don’t do this. It’s not what you think it is. Not a naysayer. Talking from experience. Unless your pull truck gets at least 20+ mpg empty this doesn’t work. you do you will be farther in debt when you decide to except the fact it doesn’t work.
You’re awful adamant about this since you post on every video. Maybe…..just maybe there’s a reason people like me are still doing it and people like you quit. I just grossed $21k in September, I think you don’t know how to run a business
I'm not sure what are you talking about? Why are you paying IFTA tax? Must be the F450 that causes that for you but you're the only RV transporter that I know that pays it. The law says you must be registered over 26K to be required to pay IFTA
When ever you get asked to move, (when doing a 10hr) you can legally stay on off duty select PC. Put in the notes that you needed to move parking spaces. You can also seed yourself an email explaining why you needed to relocate. As long it’s a short move DOT doesn’t mind
It does matter where you live. Maybe I misheard what you were saying but living near Elkhart allows you to run personal conveyance on the way home. If you live near Elkhart and you deadhead back from 34 hours away, bad decision but you will reset during those hours. Let's face it, it's not always easy to find a trailer that's heading back to Indiana because there are MANY thousands of guys doing the exact same thing as you are. Hauling singles requires smart planning to avoid going broke after about 2 years. I've grossed $1000 per day for many weeks but I use a LOT of different load boards and it's not easy to do. You have to understand that grossing that much must be your goal if you plan on making money transporting trailers.
The Cummins 16valve was the best. 16 mpg pulling. 26 empty. 0:24
It took 17 minutes to get to the title
What’s a ELD, sir?
Can you get the Horizon transport info on a magnet instead of on your window like that?
Yes. You have to special request the decals I have.

800 miles for me for the 1st load, headed to goshen Saturday picking up going to Coos Bay, Or. and I am hoping there to catch one out of Pendleton.

Because they are team driving.
They will give you crap about your sleeper size so just use off duty and they will leave you alone you just can't run splits
So I live in ky that’s not not to bad from Indiana, what does horizon require to work there
Did a video showing the entire process “RV transport application to delivery”

PC takes you out of Sleeper berth and that's the larger issue
There's no legal sleeper berth in a pickup. It doesn't meet the size requirement. Hope this helps.
