    I'm glad I found this video. I'm stating with Drive away but want to get into Haul away. This answered the CDL question for me. My Class C-CDL doesn't really do anything for me in the Tow away division. I did contact a driving school in KC where I can get a Class A CDL in 4 weeks. Not sure of the cost yet.

    And in most states, a "CDL" (Commercial Class A or B drivers license) only applies to a commercial transporter. But as a private/recreational RV'r, a driver towing an RV will still need at minimum, a Non-Commercial Class A drivers license anytime their GCWR (truck GVWR + trailer GVWR) exceeds 26K or anytime they're towing a trailer with a GVWR greater than 10K lbs. Many RV'rs are unaware of this requirement since it is seldom inforced, unless a driver is involved in an accident while towing their RV.

      Nevada has a "J" license to cover that gap between 10K and 26K lbs. I guess other states may have the same thing.

    One thing you didn't mention when you were referencing the door tags is the Payload Capacity, the Yellow Sticker in the door. You may be within the CGVWR (Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Ratting) but you could be over the Payload Capacity of the truck.

    • @randygraham6979
      @randygraham6979 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Burton you need to understand weights payload or cargo capacity has no legal binding or standing unless you are not hooking a trailer and just using truck bed to haul read and understand the legal weights and how they are measured either as static weight or rolling weight either one its still axle gross weight and total gross weight for example a class 8 truck has gvwr of 38000lbs but hook that loaded trailer to that truck it becomes 80000lbs 12000lbs on steer axle 34000lbs on drive axles and 34000lbs on trailer axles so if you hook a loaded trailer to that 38000lbs gvwr class 8 truck that puts 12000lbs on the steer axle and 34000lbs on the drive axles then are you overweight on the truck? No you are not it becomes a combination vehicle so total gross weight comes into action as long as your not over any axle or set of axles and not over gvwr that's the easiest way to explain it payload or cargo capacity does not come into play with a trailer attached in the commercial world now its a whole different ballgame when you factor in spread axle trailers we won't get into that. So basically if it's works in the commercial world why not in the personal side of things?

    I run a small business in the tourism industry which is only busy for about 4 to 5 months out of the year. I would like to purchase a new truck that I can use for my small business / personal use. I would really like to haul RVs in my off season to help with the expense of a new truck. I’m just wondering what I need to do in order to make the most money per mile (CDL, non-CDL, 3/4 ton, 1 Ton, f450-Ram4500). I was dead set on buying a 2021 high output ram 3500 dually, however I just met a guy over the weekend at a truckstop that was hauling an RV and he suggested I purchase a 3/4 ton for RV hauling because I can run paper logs and don’t have to log my trip home. What do you think about his idea? Once again I’m willing to get my CDL and buy a bad ass truck if it means I’ll make more. But I’m also fine with buying a 3/4 ton if that makes the same about of money. Thanks in advance

I think the factory heavy duty air suspension only has 2 settings though whereas the 1500 factory air suspension has 4 settings right? Also my concern with my 1500 was the airbags go into protection mode sensing a certain payload where as the factory heavy duty airbag system has a much higher threshold before going into safe mode. But for the type of support this video is discussing I would probably do after market air suspension so your truck computer doesn't log all the info about how heavy the payload is that it's sensing.

    My understanding is the GVWR is the maximum weight the truck can be loaded, and the curb weight is what the truck actually weighs. On a ram 3500 Dually the GVWR is 14k, but if you run it across a scale the truck only actually weighs about 11k. SO would that not mean you can haul a 15k trailer?

    Stumbled across this video and you state exactly what I've been saying the weights in concern is fagvw ragvw weight of trailer and weight as a combination nowhere does the law state anything about payload or cargo capacity when hooked to trailer its complete total weight of combination truck or trailer and axle weights and of course the 26001lbs cdl weight limit. By the way I own 5 3/4 ton trucks transporting rv and several class 8 trucks running under my own operating authority and I've tried to explain this to several people and I hit a wall every time all I hear is payload or cargo capacity can't get them to understand that when hooked to trailer that it is your axle weights and total gross weight or at least in the commercial world it works so why wouldn't it work in the personal world and yes I know people will load stuff in the rv but axle weights and total gross weight is still static weight and how many times have you seen a personal rv on a set of dot scales?

    • @fairwindsfollowingseas7909
      @fairwindsfollowingseas7909  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it puts your weight into the system so they know how much trailer you’re able to haul. For example my GVWR is 14,000 but my truck weighs 10,300. Actual weight only applies if you have a CDL but it also gives them a rough estimate as to which trailers may put how much weight onto your truck so you don’t cross that 14k. Also some people outfit excessive equipment into their truck and could end up near or over that 14k without a trailer. Ultimately it’s all so the company can cover themselves and make sure you’re covering yourself too

    I'm planning on getting out of trucking going into the Drive Away. I'm looking for a tow car now. Any suggestions on which car can be flat towed? Had my online orientation weeks ago. What's left is to call dispatch.

      I personally would advise against drive away. There is not a whole lot of money in it

    My biggest question so far looking into this is do you always sleep in a hotel? $75 dollars a night minimum adds up quick.

      I’ll guess you’re new to the channel since I’ve stayed in a hotel twice and both times complained because I hate spending that money on a hotel

    She can not haul a 16,000lb camper legally. You have to take into account the gross combined weight rating on her 3/4 ton which is probably around 21,000lbs. The biggest camper she can haul would be 11,000lbs not 16,000lbs. Cant go over the GCWR.

      It completely depends on her truck set up. Different high capacity pkgs will take the f250 to 21,700 lbs on a gooseneck and 18,000 lbs conventional. Only thing stopping her is cdl license. She is fine

      maximum towing capacity = GCVWR - curb weight(includes fuel) - passengers - cargo
      "Tow Weight Rating is: TWR = GCWR - TVTW. By subtracting the total weight of the tow vehicle (the TVTW includes the weight of the driver, passenger, and additional equipment) from the tested GCWR, the result is the SAE J2807-compliant Tow Weight Rating."
      Example: 2016 Ram 2500, GVWR=10k, base weight=7620, GCWR=25,300. So max trailer weight = 25,300 - 7620 - people/fuel/equipment = 17,210 - people/fuel/equipment. The trailer's GVWR must be less than the Tow Weight Rating.
      Trailer Weight Rating and Tow Vehicle Trailering Weight are calculated as specified in SAE J2807.
      Passenger Weight = 300 lb
      Options Weight = 100 lb
      Tongue weight: 10 percent of the gross trailer weight for Conventional Hitch, 15 percent of the gross trailer weight for 5th Wheel or Gooseneck hitch.
      Trailering Equipment Weight: 75 lb for Conventional Hitch, 70 lb for Gooseneck and 250 lb for 5th Wheel.
      Payload and GAWR should never be exceeded and must account for all of the above weights, including the appropriate trailering equipment and tongue weight.

    @tachometertransport742 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your CGVWR cant be above 26000 (example Dually 14k, trailer 12k but it would be base on actual weight. Your truck roughly around 10200, so you could pull a trailer actual weight of 15800. If thats not the case, all these non cdl hotshots are illegal.
