I'd like to see more of these! Not actually new stuff to me in this particular case, but you never know what you'll hear from other experienced and more experienced people, it's always smart to look, listen and think, there is always something more to learn :) thanks
I know plenty of guys, specifically for WG's, that will benefit from this vid. A good vid on 3-port, 4-port, dual 3-port boost control would be helpful too.
Great info Calvin. I really enjoy your R&D work on the Vortec 4200. I love the LS engines of course, but it's a refreshing change to see someone building and modifying something different. These engines are way underrated and underappreciated in the automotive world for some reason, probably the lack of aftermarket parts for them. In true hotrodder tradition, you just make and adapt your own!
Also the valve shaft really needs something more positive than a peripheral set/pinch screw....im thinking about drilling a hole through the top and tapping the valve shaft to get a more positive lock on the Eb@y one im using...ill post a vid of the mod tonight @BlaqlabsPodcast
These are the kinds of things I love. Yes this is literally the cheapest part you can get. We understand that at the lowest price point we're making trade offs, some of the tradeoffs are doing our own quality assurance and having little or no mfg support. If you want to be able to just slap it on and go, it's gonna cost you. If you want a 1-800 number to call when you have a question, it's gonna cost you. We're broke but we wanna go fast lol
I have taken those and their BOVs apart and found machining debris, looks like they machined and threw them together without even blowing the mess out of them. Also found similar in a turbonetics wg too so its just a good idea to look and confirm on all of them
Id like to see more on the cheap turbo parts .. im just getting into turbos ive bought two turbos and then got laid off so it looks like im gonna be buying parts on a budget just to see if the turbo is the way i wanna go or do i want to just hook my nitrous up again … i have ben scared of Chinese waste gates and things but this video gave me some confidence
Calvin, we had great results without a waste gate on a blow thru setup. We turned a decel pop off into an adjustable pressure regulator that held the boost at a preset maximum. It simply held the boost steady and bled off any excess. The leakdown tester was used on the bench to make an initial setting. The turbo stayed spooled during shifts(4speed) or pedaling to prevent a breakout.
That's another way to do boost control. The only issue you may have with that is you may overspeed the turbo. Also, your compressor efficiency will probably go way down. I'm not going to argue with results though. If it works for you, send it.
Bravo! I recommend polishing the valve stem and putting a thin coating of clean high-temperature *anti-seize [*new unopened package]. Thanks, I love the channel
Very good content more please that was good to know I’m building a Ls 4.8/5.3 single t4 turbo first time and I don’t know anything yet about turbo set ups but loving it so far
im using replica turbosmart. already 11 years and i facing leakage issue at the 9th year. replace new o-ring and good to go. the oring located at the valve seat, and the three bolt.
@@Eddy-th3kc im sorry i dont know what is fire ring, the material is elastik rubber but will dried out for so the leaks come from there. for my turbosmart, need 4 of them, big one on the valve seat tunnel and 3 between the bolt. replace it yourself not even cost you just rm6; less than two dollar.
If your wastegate uses banjo bolt fittings check for leaks where the copper washer meets the bottom housing. The threaded hole in the bottom of my wastegate housing was drilled to close to the edge of the flat machined area so the copper washer will never seal on one edge.
@@kelvinleong915 No. It will cause it to make more boost than the wastegate spring is rated for since some of the reference boost is not making it to the diaphragm, similar to how a manual boost controller works.
@@kelvinleong915 Yeah, if the fire ring is not sealing then less exhaust will pass through the turbo and it can underboost. If you have exhaust coming out of the wastgate dump at idle you definitely have a problem.
Just subscribed I think I'm not good with this phone. My name is Stan and I have been racing 250 inline motors about 50 years or so. Like in Arkansas. 40 Chevy 2door sedan 11.30 in a 1000 ft. Centerville Dragway.

Same, good to hear what knowledgeable people like to do with their setups, how they like to test, new trains of thought etc.

Yes more more more. Real world experience is where i want to learn from.
Some good advice. In addition to your points, I replace the bolts with new ones. The bolts that come with them seem very soft and are a little short.

Also, my valve stem is not threaded or anything lol just a set screw omg.. 🤣🤣🤭🤭
These are the kinds of things I love.

Thanks for making this video, interesting on what to look for in the cheaper WG's looking to purchase in the near future.
Very cool, I appreciate the information, no one else goes over this stuff, keep it up!
Recently stumbled upon Rocksett, in the gun world, they use it for muzzle devices. Good from -300 to 2000* f. You can find it on Amazon.
Nice! I'll look into that
Excellent video!
Hell yeah keep this going. The twin ecu setup for the fiat would be awesome
Great show and tell. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for video great advice sir and as always be blessed

When underboost is inside diaphragm issue

Hi, I know it's been a long time but did you have any problems after this upgrades on wastegate? Or does it hold strong?
Been doing fine
I like it.
Did you build all these monster Cain your intro
My Dad and I did, yes
