    He could tell himself to forgive Paul for recording a solo record as a teenager. It wasn't just Art's incredible voice that made the duo stars and wealthy. It was the songs PAUL wrote. Not to mention that Paul couldn't be expected to spend his life writing only songs Art would want to record. He needed to grow as a songwriter and he made great music. Art could sing songs people besides Paul wrote and did.

    When I was in school, we had a band of two. I was Garfunkel and my friend was Simon, and we sang all of the Simon and Garfunkel songs. All the lyrics are embedded in my mind forever. Thank you Simon and Garfunkel. There has never before or after been music like yours. Lots of love. 🌸🌸

    Art Garfunkel was a large contributing factor to what made the duo of Simon & Garfunkel so great. I also loved his solo album 'Angel Clare' and I always felt he deserved more appreciation than he usually got, both as a musician and as a fine human being. He was the perfect complementary counterbalance to Paul Simon, both musically and in terms of personality. This sweet and poignant letter reaffirms all of that in my estimation. All the best to you, Art - and many thanks for five decades of lovely musical inspiration.

      Yes, I do agree. And I also thank you for the five decades, Artie. My 70th birthday is 25th of September. I have great memories of their singing from all decades. I watch something Art and Simon on you tube everyday. Love the Central Park Concert. My seven year old great grandson's desk is right beside mine and now and then I hear him softly singing along.
      Love and Peace

      The same thing happened to Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer. He can still sing very well, but he has to sing everything in a MUCH lower key because cigarettes took his singing voice away. Hesounds nothing like he did on their earlier albums, and it's heartbreaking.

    My mum told me she met Art and Paul with her girlfriends or friend in the 60's on a walking holiday staying in hostels in the North of England along the way hiking and said Paul was lovely and really shy...and Art and her shared a kiss and he gave her a piggy back Iol.. I said its funny cause you and Art both have red curly hair think he fancied my mum a little bit, she was a good catholic girl at the time! But they all had a good laugh.
    Sadly my mum passed away in 2011 but I always remember that story she told me and Bridge over troubled water was played at my uncles funeral and my mum was right they both seem to be good down to earth people!!

    Such a lovely poetic letter to his younger self. I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel's music and still have their albums. They are legends. I never tire of listening to them. The Sound Of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Waters are so hauntingly beautiful. Garfunkel's beautiful angelic voice singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters is mesmerizing. No one else could have sang it so beautifully. I loved watching his casualness of putting his hands in his pockets when he sang and out would come that beautiful voice. Those are two of my all time favorite songs. I miss Simon and Garfunkel as a duo. Their voices harmonized so perfectly together. This video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Art Garfunkel. You are a treasure.

He did possess some small talent, as a songwriter, and I shall always respect him for it.I shall respect him, until the day my body no longer draws breath.I will always remember , the wonderful harmonies he and Paul Simon crafted together, and it is those songs, that I will take with me, until my dying day.

    If you haven't watched and listened to Art's note to his younger self, you are missing out. He said when you age you get out of the way of yourself. I just had my 70th birthday on September 25 and a bulb went off over my head when he said that you get out of your own way. I know I lived thru some great decades and I am not going to be an idiot and say, "but I wouldn't go back to that age". They are fucking lying or was fugly and couldn't make friends. I would go before the wheels on the bus stopped turning round and round. But you do release your ass cheeks a little when you know you had your fun and you can't go back......I do wish I had been wilder, tried everything, and made love more. Peace and Happiness

    He's one of the luckier people in the world. In that category, Dan Blocker comes to mind...maybe Ringo Starr. Art is angry now that he and Paul they didn't continue into the 1970's, so, probably he should tell himself, "Dear younger ME, It's 1971, you/I have more money than you or I will ever have again, so, save your shekels and find a good investment broker."

    He's still got that beautiful poetry... I was raised on Simon and Garfunkel's music, and to this day I still love listening to them.
    One thing I never noticed though was that Garfunkel is left handed, as is Simon. Although he can't go to the same level as he was before he lost his singing voice, he never lost the power inside him. Their songs have kept me going for so many years. And to Simon and Garfunkel, I owe a lot.

    I can't imagine what it's like to lose your original singing voice like Artie did, I've lost my voice for a few weeks at a time and each time I feel like dying. But to be able to persevere like he has is something to admire.

    "Differentness"? "Musicianship"? What a string of pretentious mumble-jumble. I loved you Art back when you were S & G - but without Paul to dictate the lyrics you fall flat on your face. Too bad. When I clicked on this video I had such great expectations.

    • @kakeljo5512
      @kakeljo5512 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Well, with a name like BackSeatHump, you definitely can't claim "great expectations" (although your comment is, ironically, more pretentious than anything I've ever heard from Art). He's proven himself to be a true artist, with or without Paul's lyrics. His voice is a gift and he's a true legend. What have you done with your life, BSHumper?

      Art Garfunkel doesn't speak English - that's all there is to it. And if you think that my on-line name has any bearing on his talent then you are a dunce.

    • @kakeljo5512
      @kakeljo5512 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey no argument there (about me being a dunce! but for various other reasons..) However, I still defend Art's talent, not to mention his ability to speak English. AND I don't think your online name has any bearing on Art's talent. It only proves my point regarding your own taste & integrity.

    • @BackSeatHump
      @BackSeatHump 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      kakeljo 55
      Well, his kindergarten, make-up vocabulary of "Differentness" and "Musicianship" proves that his English is very, VERY bad. And as far as my on-line name being an indication of my "taste & integrity", well .......... suppose you tell me what my on-line name means, Mr. Smarty, and then we'll discuss my "taste & integrity" - and even your own command of the English language. Are you ready?

      BackSeatHump you're a moron.....anything that goes over some cold souled idiots head,he calls pretentious. how unoriginal, you vapid twerp. and,using language as a weapon,is the last refuge of the unfeeling goon.

    I stumbled across this interview....listened to this gentleman's voice. Nothing is coincidental in my beliefs....our "names" are chosen across the Heavens..."Art" is given to the world to create and heal... the natural tones of your voice calls out to all of us.....the sparkle of "God"...in all the ways the stars show us....shine on my friend...keep to your love and styles...thanks for the beauty you portray in music...... I thank You...once more across the seas...:)

    I think we can disagree here. we all have talents but we all do not have the same. Because Paul is a talented song writer doesn"t make Art less talented. These guys were friends or still friends and maybe will be forever, not a good thing to compare who's got what talent. They are both Very, Very,, talented individuals.Let us be greatful for the good Songs that God gave them to leave with us.

    What a guy! I love this great man. But he forgot to say how lucky he was having such a great vocals, knowing how to use it and being in such a lucrative industry. Just kidding! Of course he wouldn't say that, because it would be a self-admiration which is a characteristic, a great humble Artist such as "Art" do not possess.

    I totally enjoyed watching this...as I too grow older... I grew up in a awesome amount of decadeds the 60's the 70's and continue on,,,, like so many artists that were a little older then me and maybe a little younger then me... We all move forward... yes the vocals of artists that we loved as youth because of time.. they cannot sing like thier prime... the actors we loved in what maybe was the pinacle of their being on top of their game... I still love it all.. and I am totally able to cut them the slack.... My very low level of talent is maybe looking through a camera lens,,, and seeing the simple,, that makes me smile,,, and maybe a few others too... The egos of artists... I dont care... for that moment in time they brought a smile to my face even decades later it is still there.

    This voice is....time immortal!. It's like falling into water and being lifted and swayed by high and low waves only to (when you get to the end of the song) drown peacfully. NO sir....for the fans and those who love you, your voice will never fade, never be gone...locked in time immotal.
