  • Ok, so first attempt at a technical vlog. Sound was rubbish and I've had to boost it right up, definitely will remember next time to just use the plug in helmet mic and clip it near my face. Feel free to comment if I've done anything wrong, I can update the description with any extra info. DISCLAIMER - this is how I did it, and this video is purely for entertainment purposes.     Thanks for this 5 years later just did a 2014 model and the cog was upside down too.

    Is 0.10 and 0.15 Ok? My feeler gauge wont do 0.08 and 0.12 exactely.. or both times 0.10..

    hi spike , im having a problem in the morning or when i start my bike for the first time in the day...... resusulting having to push starting it .... ! wats up ?

    Glad the valves were in specs; it's almost more work to get to them then, just to do the checking.
    Here is a note about the cam gear #...
    The numbers that seemed to be upside down on the cam gear, or put on upside down as thought by your friend, most likely they are not wrong.
    BTW its good to take the spark plug out and go by this as you did every time.. This may help others watching that may do there own.
    Here is why, they can line up and still be 180 degrees off, its not that they were put on upside down, just they can end up in two spots and look the same, being it's a 4 stroke ( or 4 cycle motor ) motor is why...Glad they was in spec. yl

    Hi Spike, very good and informative video, however I was speaking to a friend of mine who has been an engineer for 25 years and is also a bike enthusiast. He said I don't need to worry about the clearances being 1/100th of a mm out of the recommended range - on an F1 car you may notice it but not on a bike like this. The factory settings are 0.12mm and 0.08mm, mine were 0.13 and 0.09 after 6000 miles so I have left them at that, not going to fiddle unless i have running issues!

    Greetings;
    I believe that in my first attempt I’ve adjusted the compression side (was following a bad tutorial).
    After finding this video I believe everything is ok; however no matter the revolutions both sides now have the same clearances. As far as I recall one shouldn’t have a gap a d the other should have the 0.12 and 0.08mm clearance. Can this be a problem? Thanks in advance

      The left side is the exhaust valve (0.12) and the right is the intake (0.08) - No gap = bad time for your valves

    you mistook the airbox drain pipe for the crankcase breather, its on the other side under under the throttle body

    yes, its a lot cheaper. a brand new CBF at my local Honda was £2500, my second hand Vara (2005) was the almost the same price. As I cannot afford to to a bike test and buy a bigger bike i decided on the vara for use for at least another year

    May I ask the reason for checking the clearances? Was there a running problem or was it just a peace of mind thing? Been having problems with my sons, runs fine on start up but as soon as it's at it's optimal running temperature it starts playing up as if it's a fueling issue then cuts out, but as soon as it cools down its starts back up again. Been advised it could be the valve clearances. Also replaced the fuel pump and new spark plug and still have the same problem. Any help on this would be great 👍

      Did you ever get it sorted? having a similar problem, I’ve tried everything but I’m gonna check the valve clearances today.

    The engine is in exploded state, but the "L" sign is still there. No other comment!

    i was almost going to exchange the PCX125 i had for a CBF, then i saw the Varadero. I now have a Varadero 125. biiiig bike, but has V twin

    you didn't need to remove the crank bolt,bike on centre stand,1th gear jerk the back wheel

    I get more like 85 mpg from it but I do rag it everywhere :) Best thing to do on a 125 haha

    I love my CBF125, great fun, good to learn on, cheap to buy and run. Lets you down on overtakes though. I will be a little sad to say goodbye when my first big bike arrives next week.

    Mine runs but to start from cold I have to open the throttle. Once it’s warmed up, the bike starts perfect.

      Usual cause is the exhaust valve too tight.

      Get your ears tested. He is clear as a bell if you understand English English. Maybe you are American.
