Also, Katniss is a 17yr old child. She never wanted to be a symbol. She only wanted to save her sister, then Peeta. They are taking away her ability to choose just like her being put in the games. Imagine, the fate of the world depending on a 17yr old. That is so unfair.
I agree but like... Harry Potter does the exact same thing. In most of these books a child is being thrown into having to save the world with no real choice in the matter. This book/movie series isn't special in that regard

Katniss feels obligated to like Gale because he likes her(says it in the books). The kiss on the beach was 100% real. She said she felt a burning within her when he kissed her. Something she never felt with Gale.

I agree with the others, she fell for Peeta but didn't consider a romantic relationship with Gale even in the books. When he got whipped, she did seem to become a bit confused because of his emotions for her but she was more concerned with living. Not being romantic with either of them initially.

lol Finnicks weakness was Mags because she volunteered in place of Annie Cresta, who is actually Finnicks lover. He wanted to protect mags because of her sacrifice knowing she’d die in the games but Annie would be okay.

It’s much clearer in the books, but Katniss is terrified of being with anyone because she never wants to have a family. She never wants children in the reaping. She never wants to lose someone like she lost her father. Gale works in the mines like her father. He’s also rebellious and reactive, but he’s someone that taught her how to survive and feed her family. Peeta saved her life and fed her when she was starving. She cares for both, but fights her feelings and denies them.
Her and Gale were never together. They started hunting together out of convenience and then became friends. After the first games, he tends to use their friendship against her, and is always trying to make her feel guilty. Katniss is going through a lot and there is a revolution starting up. I hate how instead of being there and supporting her he just stresses her out more and makes it all about himself. That's one of the differences between Gale and Peeta. Peeta always puts Katniss first.

Perfect example is the fact that he volunteers for the games to give Katniss a better chance to get home to her loved ones. His token from Effie literally has a picture of Gale in it. He is just as mean about Katniss as movie Gale when he talks to Peeta in the basement. Peeta has fake memories, he doesn't know what is real, but Gale knows and he decides to badmouth Katniss.

Especially now with the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and young Snow's gradual journey into evil in mind. Dumbledore's two months affair with Grindelwald as a teenager, came to an abrupt end when his sister died. Even if it took decades longer for him to actively confront and fight him. Both characters are masterminds. And to add to the parallell, Dumbledore was offered the post of Minister of Magic several times, but declined, having decided that Power was his weakness. Snow on the other hand, sacrifices everything for power.

My favourite little bit of Catching Fire trivia, is that when they filmed the scene in the lift with Joanna...Jennifer Lawrence wasn't actually there...she wasnt available when they shot the scene, so they had to film her reaction separately and comp her in afterwards. An impressive bit of editing work if you ask me.

Seeing this in the cinema was an insane experience, usually the audience is pretty quiet when I go see movies but this film and it's plot twists got so many reactions from all the people I saw it with! Mags basically raised Finnick. They aren't an item, it was a motherly goodbye kiss. Katniss and Gale were friends but not romantically involved. Gale had some feelings that were only expressed after the hunger games ended, and he feels entitled to Katniss after she shows interest towards someone else. Peeta did like Katniss before and ended up saving her life by giving her the bread. He also acknowledged that he shouldn't expect her to hold up anything she said in the games because it saved their lives. Katniss does have genuine feelings toward Peeta that are romantic, but she's more concerned with keeping the people she loves safe. At one pont she decides that she should be with Gale because she isn't being forced into it by the capital, but she still thinks about going to Peeta for comfort because he actually understands her experience first hand. A note on body hair, everyone is waxed by their beauty team before the games, and it seems like the guys don't grow facial hair either.
Mags raised Finnick. She volunteered for Annie, to protect her because Finnick is in love with Annie and she knew Annie couldnt psychologically handle going back in the games.
The fog attacks the nervous system. This is why they kept falling down and could not get up. Plus Peeta lost his leg from the first game. He has a false leg and it difficult for him to move in this environment. It why he told Katniss to stop looking at him like he is wounded.
I read that Jennifer Lawrence is childhood friends with Lenny Kraavitz daughter. They've eat together, she's been to the house many times, he's family. Apparently they didn't tell her that Lenny was going to get beaten to death in front of her, she properly freaked out.
A lot of district 12 escaped with Gale to 13 and yes, throughout the other books there are stories of people from every district going in search of district 13 and some of them made it there
In the books, when Peeta hit the force field, Katniss didn't know what CPR is and, at the time, she didn't trust Finnick and was confused what he was doing to Peeta. She thinks he was killing him. After that, she trusted Finnick a bit more.
I agree there are no victors only survivors and they are never free, I cant imagine being forced to relive the games each year and being forced to mentor tributes knowing the chances are you cannot save them.
Finnick carried Maggs on his back the whole time because she couldn't run. At that moment, she sacrifices herself so that Finnick can help Katniss and drag Peeta out of the reach of the poison mist and save him. From the beginning the goal was to save Katniss, because she was the symbol of the revolution to end the Capitol. Half of the tributes knew this and collaborated to save Katniss. Maggs sacrifices herself to save Peeta because they knew that without him, Katniss couldn't continue fighting.
Really cool detail in the books was that when Plutarch was dancing with Katniss he showed his watch and for a very fraction of a second a mockingjay flashed. Hinting both about the watch fashion of the arena and that he's on her side.

Katniss is very strong and brave, but she is not a killer, and is haunted not just by everything that has been done to her and those she loves, but what she has been forced to do. She's a fighter, no question, but not like how Gale is a fighter. She's much more like Peeta, who would live in peace and not fight, if she had a choice, even if that meant living in poverty forever. She's like a lot of people, which made her the perfect figurehead and inspiration for the rebellion. She had to get people who similarly weren't self-motivated to risk life and limb to fight for freedom. People like Gale and the leaders of the rebellion are different and have different motivations. The only things that drove Katniss were her anger, defiance, and thirst for vengeance. For her, it wasn't about the big picture, it was all personal. She will have to force herself to look at the big picture and care at least a little about it. She is not really a rebel, but more of an ordinary person who just wants to live in peace.
The Morphlings were a few of the previous victors who were participating in the games. After their victory, they used a drug called morphling to mitigate their PTSD. It is heavily implied as this is a future dystopian world that morphling is the same thing as morphine.
As someone who has read the books and watched the movies I personally don't believe at all that her feelings for Peeta were just an act. Yes I think of course it starts as one as a way to survive but by the end of that first game I feel like there are real feelings for one another. I think the reason this movie/book starts off with her being so detached from Peeta is because being with him & around him is a huge trigger for the PTSD she has from the games. If you recall Peeta ask's Katniss at the end of the last movie on the train heading home to district 12 "so what happens when we get back?' and she replies "I don't know, I guess we try to forget" and for her to forget she has to distance herself from him. Not because she never cared but because she looks at him and see's all the people who had to die for them to win. Also Gale isn't her boyfriend and never was. I always that it was weird that he is like upset with her for what she had to do in the games because they literally aren't together and truthfully I think the last thing on Katniss's mind is which boy she likes more, she just wants to move on from it all.
Some interesting points from the books that were left out of the movies is how Katniss' ability to shoot arrows and swim can be seen as rebellious in nature. In 12, they taught people to be afraid of the forest and put the fence there to deter people from trying to flee. The fence isnt electrified because really no one cares about 12 and even the Head Peacekeeper doesnt enforce it. But because people fear the woods, only Katniss and Gale go out there (they know there is nothing to fear and the fence will never be active). There are no weapons or hunting allowed in 12, nor are there any bodies of water. Katniss' father used to take her beyond the fence and that's where she learned to both hunt/shoot arrows and swim. So many people question how Katniss is able to be so good in the wilderness, shoot and swim. The Quarter Quell was designed to be a disadvantage to Peeta and Katniss since they shouldnt know how to swim. In the books, Peeta almost drowns since he cant swim and Finnick questions why Katniss can. So she pretty much won the Games with skills that were illegal in 12 to have. Im sure everytime one of these hidden skills popped up, Snow saw it as an F U to him and the Capitol 😭🤣🤣🤣

Besides, The Hunger Games turned Jennifer Lawrence into a well-known actress, who won the Oscar for best supporting actress later. Going back to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), it was a posthumous movie to the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It's sad for Peeta with his situation with Katniss towards the early stages of the movie. In the book, it's portrayed that Peeta full on is in love with Katniss and has been for years, which is why he said that stuff in the first movie. He genuinely loved her, but to Katniss, it was all just an act, or at least 80%. She started to like him towards the end of the first movie, but when they got back to District 12, in the books they didn't really see each other at all. That's why Peeta was colder to her at the beginning during the TV broadcast, and why he said "I almost believed that kiss was real". This is also why the Districts didn't believe them and their 'love story when they were giving the speeches, because Katniss wasn't all in and that made Peeta colder to her, because he knew she liked Gale. After being back in District 12 Katniss went back to the hunting and her older way of life, and hanging out with Gale, so her feelings for him were amplified, as we saw in the movie with the 3 kisses. After Snow called for the constestans to be reaped from the victors pool, it sent her back into the acting mode, until she started to realize Peeta actually did love her, and she started to love him fully rather than just only during the hunger games like the first movie. We started seeing them grow closer and that why that beach scene, when they were talking hit so hard... Just like Ash said.. When Katniss told Peeta that SHE needed him, Peeta knew that it was no longer an act, which made it so good to finally genuinely hear from her. Love that way Suzanne Collins wrote these books, and thank God they did a good adaptation of it into movies
She does have feelings for Peeta very early on - he's "the boy with the bread". When his name gets called in Hunger Games, she's dismayed. I think if she had not had the (very understandable) mindset that there was no way she was going to get married and have kids who would be eligible for the Hunger Games, she and Peeta would have gotten together prior to the first Hunger Games. He was always in love with her, but she closed herself off to romance out of that fear of eventual children. So it takes them being thrown together constantly in an extremely high-stress situation to break down her walls.
She was never interested in Gale like that. He himself points out that she only kisses him when he's in pain and she wants to comfort him. With Peeta it's always genuine, it just takes a long time for Katniss to realize it. But I love the way the people around her see it before she does.
You two will be able to see Snow in a whole new light once you guys get to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel movie/novel to the og trilogy.
for me this is the best one the acting is way better the arena too and Jennifer Lawrence is really amazing she really nailed that role one thing they didn't put here it's the fact that Peeta lost his leg in the book bc of the injury he got in the previous game and then had a prostetic that's why he was a hard time to keep up

Gale in the book doesn't slander Peeta (as much), but he is just as annoying with his pestering and asking Katniss to choose him. He is just as mean about Katniss as movie Gale when he talks to Peeta in the basement. Peeta has fake memories, he doesn't know what is real, but Gale knows and he decides to badmouth Katniss.
The mockingjay was becoming a symbol of revolution which is why cinna made the dress Snow forced them to use transform into the mockingjay dress. It’s why he’s executed because he’s part of the circle who knows what it means beyond a trend.
It's also why Cinna is so somber during the Capital scenes with Katniss - he knows that he signed his own death warrant with that dress.

Especially now with the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and young Snow's gradual journey into evil in mind. Dumbledore's two months affair with Grindelwald as a teenager, came to an abrupt end when his sister died. Even if it took decades longer for him to actively confront and fight him. Both characters are masterminds. And to add to the parallell, Dumbledore was offered the post of Minister of Magic several times, but declined, having decided that Power was his weakness. Snow on the other hand, sacrifices everything for power.

My favourite little bit of Catching Fire trivia, is that when they filmed the scene in the lift with Joanna...Jennifer Lawrence wasn't actually there...she wasnt available when they shot the scene, so they had to film her reaction separately and comp her in afterwards. An impressive bit of editing work if you ask me.

This movie is my favourite of the franchise!! Seeing this in the cinema was an insane experience, usually the audience is pretty quiet when I go see movies but this film and it's plot twists got so many reactions from all the people I saw it with! The execution of that old guy in Rue's district always makes me emotional I don't blame you worrying that the film might be too much for you Hannah😭I don't think anything from the rest of the movies made me feel quite as sick as that though

Katniss and Gale were friends but not romantically involved. Gale had some feelings that were only expressed after the hunger games ended, and he feels entitled to Katniss after she shows interest towards someone else.
Peeta did like Katniss before and ended up saving her life by giving her the bread. He also acknowledged that he shouldn't expect her to hold up anything she said in the games because it saved their lives. Katniss does have genuine feelings toward Peeta that are romantic, but she's more concerned with keeping the people she loves safe.
At one pont she decides that she should be with Gale because she isn't being forced into it by the capital, but she still thinks about going to Peeta for comfort because he actually understands her experience first hand.
A note on body hair, everyone is waxed by their beauty team before the games, and it seems like the guys don't grow facial hair either.

The fog attacks the nervous system. This is why they kept falling down and could not get up. Plus Peeta lost his leg from the first game. He has a false leg and it difficult for him to move in this environment. It why he told Katniss to stop looking at him like he is wounded.

In the books, when Peeta hit the force field, Katniss didn't know what CPR is and, at the time, she didn't trust Finnick and was confused what he was doing to Peeta. She thinks he was killing him. After that, she trusted Finnick a bit more.

Finnick carried Maggs on his back the whole time because she couldn't run. At that moment, she sacrifices herself so that Finnick can help Katniss and drag Peeta out of the reach of the poison mist and save him. From the beginning the goal was to save Katniss, because she was the symbol of the revolution to end the Capitol. Half of the tributes knew this and collaborated to save Katniss. Maggs sacrifices herself to save Peeta because they knew that without him, Katniss couldn't continue fighting.

Katniss is very strong and brave, but she is not a killer, and is haunted not just by everything that has been done to her and those she loves, but what she has been forced to do. She's a fighter, no question, but not like how Gale is a fighter. She's much more like Peeta, who would live in peace and not fight, if she had a choice, even if that meant living in poverty forever. She's like a lot of people, which made her the perfect figurehead and inspiration for the rebellion. She had to get people who similarly weren't self-motivated to risk life and limb to fight for freedom. People like Gale and the leaders of the rebellion are different and have different motivations. The only things that drove Katniss were her anger, defiance, and thirst for vengeance. For her, it wasn't about the big picture, it was all personal. She will have to force herself to look at the big picture and care at least a little about it. She is not really a rebel, but more of an ordinary person who just wants to live in peace.

The Morphlings were a few of the previous victors who were participating in the games. After their victory, they used a drug called morphling to mitigate their PTSD. It is heavily implied as this is a future dystopian world that morphling is the same thing as morphine.

As someone who has read the books and watched the movies I personally don't believe at all that her feelings for Peeta were just an act. Yes I think of course it starts as one as a way to survive but by the end of that first game I feel like there are real feelings for one another. I think the reason this movie/book starts off with her being so detached from Peeta is because being with him & around him is a huge trigger for the PTSD she has from the games. If you recall Peeta ask's Katniss at the end of the last movie on the train heading home to district 12 "so what happens when we get back?' and she replies "I don't know, I guess we try to forget" and for her to forget she has to distance herself from him. Not because she never cared but because she looks at him and see's all the people who had to die for them to win. Also Gale isn't her boyfriend and never was. I always that it was weird that he is like upset with her for what she had to do in the games because they literally aren't together and truthfully I think the last thing on Katniss's mind is which boy she likes more, she just wants to move on from it all.

Some interesting points from the books that were left out of the movies is how Katniss' ability to shoot arrows and swim can be seen as rebellious in nature.
In 12, they taught people to be afraid of the forest and put the fence there to deter people from trying to flee. The fence isnt electrified because really no one cares about 12 and even the Head Peacekeeper doesnt enforce it. But because people fear the woods, only Katniss and Gale go out there (they know there is nothing to fear and the fence will never be active).
There are no weapons or hunting allowed in 12, nor are there any bodies of water. Katniss' father used to take her beyond the fence and that's where she learned to both hunt/shoot arrows and swim. So many people question how Katniss is able to be so good in the wilderness, shoot and swim. The Quarter Quell was designed to be a disadvantage to Peeta and Katniss since they shouldnt know how to swim. In the books, Peeta almost drowns since he cant swim and Finnick questions why Katniss can. So she pretty much won the Games with skills that were illegal in 12 to have.
Im sure everytime one of these hidden skills popped up, Snow saw it as an F U to him and the Capitol 😭🤣🤣🤣

Frankly, The Hunger Games saga has aged well over the years, so I'm glad you guys made this movie reaction. Besides, The Hunger Games turned Jennifer Lawrence into a well-known actress, who won the Oscar for best supporting actress later. Going back to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), it was a posthumous movie to the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It's sad for Peeta with his situation with Katniss towards the early stages of the movie. In the book, it's portrayed that Peeta full on is in love with Katniss and has been for years, which is why he said that stuff in the first movie. He genuinely loved her, but to Katniss, it was all just an act, or at least 80%. She started to like him towards the end of the first movie, but when they got back to District 12, in the books they didn't really see each other at all. That's why Peeta was colder to her at the beginning during the TV broadcast, and why he said "I almost believed that kiss was real". This is also why the Districts didn't believe them and their 'love story when they were giving the speeches, because Katniss wasn't all in and that made Peeta colder to her, because he knew she liked Gale. After being back in District 12 Katniss went back to the hunting and her older way of life, and hanging out with Gale, so her feelings for him were amplified, as we saw in the movie with the 3 kisses. After Snow called for the constestans to be reaped from the victors pool, it sent her back into the acting mode, until she started to realize Peeta actually did love her, and she started to love him fully rather than just only during the hunger games like the first movie. We started seeing them grow closer and that why that beach scene, when they were talking hit so hard... Just like Ash said.. When Katniss told Peeta that SHE needed him, Peeta knew that it was no longer an act, which made it so good to finally genuinely hear from her. Love that way Suzanne Collins wrote these books, and thank God they did a good adaptation of it into movies
She does have feelings for Peeta very early on - he's "the boy with the bread". When his name gets called in Hunger Games, she's dismayed. I think if she had not had the (very understandable) mindset that there was no way she was going to get married and have kids who would be eligible for the Hunger Games, she and Peeta would have gotten together prior to the first Hunger Games. He was always in love with her, but she closed herself off to romance out of that fear of eventual children. So it takes them being thrown together constantly in an extremely high-stress situation to break down her walls.
She was never interested in Gale like that. He himself points out that she only kisses him when he's in pain and she wants to comfort him. With Peeta it's always genuine, it just takes a long time for Katniss to realize it. But I love the way the people around her see it before she does.
