I like the Hodor theory. He wanted to be a knight when he was younger right? What a great way for him to go out; defender of the weak, brandishing Dark Sister.
That seems a little imbalanced. It's like the Hound welding Needle. The size ratio would be weird. Maybe not this is all theory. I do like the concept, but maybe with a larger sword.
There's also a poetic tragedy here, I think. Hodor is (likely) a descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall. And Ser Duncan (likely) dies holding a door open as long as possible, whereas Hodor dies making sure a door stays closed for a long as possible...😢
@juandirection8820 I think it's likely because Wylis (Hodor) is Old Nan's great-grandchild and grrm has said that after Whitewall, Ser Duncan and Egg go to Winterfell in "She-Wolves of Winterfell" (working title). He also escorts maester Aemon to the wall, presumably at least passing by Winterfell on the way there or back. I think the math works, but that's just my opinion lol

With a limited supply of Valyrian steel, any blade is a treasure when considering the coming War for the Dawn. And what better place to find treasure than guarded by a dragon, Bloodraven?
One of my favorite discussions about the missing Valyrian swords. It wouldn’t be surprising for more than 1 woman to possess Dark Sister in the future. NOT at once of course
I'm starting to believe that GRRM told Game Of Thrones writers how he was planning on ending the books. After how poorly the show ending was received, he is trying to find a way to steer away from that ending in the last books. Lots of rewrites to his internal canon that won't conflict with what has already been written.
Maybe Blood Raven gave it to Maestor Aemond before he left to go north of the wall, and now he has died, someone (maybe Melisandra) finds it in his room, amongst his belongings? Or maybe it's now with Sam?
I think dark sister may still be at least a bastard/hand and a half sword in that the handle is still big enough for two hands. Though I understand that may have just been how they made it look in the show.
The Targaryens always seemed uninterested in protecting their heirlooms. The dragons included. Will never understand why Aegon V let Bloodraven take dark sister north
There's a theory that Bloodraven going to the wall was part of a plan that Argon was a part of, they were both aware of what was coming so having dark sister would be a good idea if you think you'll be facing the others
It's possible that Aegon expected Dark Sister to be returned once Bloodraven died, and maybe even made him promise that (in which case, nice use of fine print there by Bloodraven😁). There's good reason why Aegon V wouldn't necessarily want the sword to wield/display himself while ruling, since it would contrast very poorly with his rival claimants holding Blackfyre. Since Bloodraven was being sent to the Wall for something that was arguably in Aegon's and the realm's best interests (even though it was dishonorable on its face), it makes sense that letting Bloodraven keep his storied weapon would be the honorable thing to do. If Aegon expected to get it back after Bloodraven's death (relatively soon, considering Bloodraven was 58 when he left for the Wall), that also supports the idea that Bloodraven had it with him on the ranging where he disappeared, since it would certainly have been returned if he'd left it at Castle Black.
Oh Robert, I love your videos and I wish you would provide the link to other videos mentioned, now i need to pause this beauty of a video to find the bloodraven video to learn about him before i can continue, man this rabbit hole is so deep :D
Hodor would be echoing various elements of the Kingsguard: - possible descendent of Dunk - defending Bran, who may become king by the end of the series - Dark Sister was used by Visenya who defended Aegon with it and who was the driving force in establishing the Kingsguard So yeah, I’d say Hodor using Dark Sister to “hold the door” is thematically appropriate for these reasons.
To be fair to the "Jon wears longclaw on his back, dark sister was worn on the hip" point. IIRC in the books Mormont tells him he'll want to wear it on his back, at least until he puts on a few more inches. implying the only reason he can't wear it on his hip is he is still not a man grown. I don't think longclaw is dark sister myself, just felt that should be pointed out.
Would have even more meaning if Hodor was confirmed Duncan the Talls descendant. Connecting Duncan's last recollection of Dark Sisters whereabouts to now, as his blood is now welding it.
Yes, Meera! Not a Targaryen, but half Dayne so close enough. She’s so underrated. If she can’t be Sword (/frog spear) of the Morning, her defending Bran with Darksister will do nicely.

I'm sorry. But the way it happened in the show. Bran sacrificed hodor. Bran used young hodors mind to control older hodor, somehow. And child hodor experianced his own death when he was only like 9 years old and it broke his mind.
Nice idea with meta grabbing the sword. If it’s dark sister in the book that will be really good. I’d agree she definitely has to hand it onto someone if it does happen. He needs to finish the book!!!
Would be nice to get confirmation where the two Targ swords are Of course Westros alone apparently has over 200 Valyrian steel swords lying around so I hope we learn about more house blades because even with the ones we know about it doesn’t seem nearly enough and which houses actually have these 200 blades
The idea of Hodor wielding Dark Sister in his last stand (with Bran controlling his fighting) is interesting. To me, though, that seems like a somewhat anti-climactic final appearance for a weapon as storied as Dark Sister. In that scenario, Dark Sister would suddenly appear in the story after being lost to history for 50 years, be part of one scene, and then disappear from the story again (presumably never to be reclaimed). Yes that one scene would be important, but would Dark Sister (a significant artifact in-universe) really be doing anything more than any other generic sword could do? It obviously would be powerful against the Others, but that distinction really only makes sense if it's supposed to be the key to Hodor winning rather than losing the battle. In a last stand, where he's supposed to ultimately be overwhelmed and killed, would Dark Sister's unique properties really mean anything that's worth removing it from the story entirely after that scene?
It is one of the specific details we are given that Dark sister was still stuck in Aemonds eye socket and Aemond was still strapped to the saddle. The story skips over the specific details of the equipment used. People did see where they fell which probably makes it easier and the lake depth probably would drop during a long summer.
