I saw DEVO twice. The first time was on a lark. The second was sheer madness. They were unreal. I saw them play That's Good with the giant screen. The audience was so mesmerized, there was a delay before cheering after every song. DEVO ended every piece like a stopwatch, with each instrument halting on the count. It was like the songs played themselves out and were yanked out of audibility. I have never seen or heard the like of these red hat geeks. That's Good.
I was in a bar on Memorial Day in NYC and the bartender was wearing a Devo 2022 tour shirt (only 3 dates) and had control of the music. I was jazzed when this fun tune came on,.
Devo pulled off what seemed like the impossible w/ this video!!! Still can't believe they got this video on the air!! It would be challenging even today....just goes to show how ahead of the game these guys were!!! Put them in the Hall of Fame already!!!!
The irony of this song is that it actually became a huge hit in dance clubs, frequented by perhaps the very kinds of people this song was targeting and satirizing.
I bought their debut album 'Are we not men? We are Devo' in 1979. They were light years ahead of everyone else and sadly enough, their musical cynicism still applies to the "You can't fix stupid" world we still live (die) in today.
I now walk through the Shop Rite supermarket and never in my wildest dreams would I believe they would be playing Devo on the intercom. Finally, "That's Good".
I think the moral of this video is not to use French fries to poke your doughnut because they will eventually snap - an important life lesson and that's good.
I saw DEVO on this tour. Early on in the run they'd had some trouble with getting the performance and the films sorted out but by the time I saw them it everything went off like it was supposed to and it was *unknown to audiences of the day* to have live performers on stage interacting with a visual in real time. It was the first time most audiences ever saw stage lights move and zoom by remote/computer control. They were really cutting edge, and they stayed on brand and on message from the mid-1970s to the present day. I'm really impressed with their ethic - and the most recent studio album, SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY, was one of the best they ever did.
Videos from this era generally had not adopted the hyper-quick editing style that we have grown accustomed to. I imagine this video must have seemed frenetically paced at the time, but we consumers have been so well trained that we barely notice the cuts. Devo made some really neat videos, and great songs!
Rightous !! Thank you for posting...used to cruise it in my 73 Gremlin....rock'n to Devo. Drive a different car....listen to different (but GREAT) music. Screw conformity.....after a point.
Drummers usually want to be seen as their own musicians, doing solos and flaunting their shit. Alan Meyers was a true drummer doing the drummer's principle task... setting the rhythm and tempo for the rest of the band to follow. Which he did, with mechanical precision. That's why he's remembered as "The Human Metronome."
YES, YES YES , AND YES AGAIN, HEY WOODRATGIRL THATS A GREAT NAME FOR A NEW ROCK BAND!!! HEE HEE ,SO CARRY ON AND ROCK ON !!!!!!!!!!!! DEVO FOR LIFE AND DOCTOR RON PAUL , PS YOU DO THE SUPER THING 1981 DEVO !!!!!!
"freedom of choice" and "oh no, it's devo" are 2 great albums. not really a bad song on them. can't tell you how many times i listened to them top to bottom. mark = musical genius!!!
YES WE JUST LOST TWO , GREAT MUSIC LEGENDS , ALAN MYERS AND ROBERT CASALE , BOB 2 OF DEVO , A GREAT LEGENDARY ROCK BAND , ,GODSPEED TO BOTH , AND MAY GOD BLESS THE REST OF DEVO!!! , HOPEFULLY DEVO CAN COUNTINE WITH MORE NEW MUSIC ON WARNER BROTHERS , AND TOUR AGAIN, STARTING IN CT, NEW HAVENS 99 ROCK WPLR BACK IN THE DAY , WHEN THE ROCK STATION HAD FREEDOM OF CHOICE , THEY WOULD PLAY A LOT OF DEVO ALBUM FILLERS , AND SONGS LIKE THIS GRATE ONE BUT TODAY WPLR , CANNOT PLAY ANY DEVO , BECAUSE ITS OWNED BY DICKSHEADS , LONG LIVE DEVO INDEED !!!!
Spuds !! Happy 72nd Mark Allen Mothersbaugh. May 18, 1950, Akron, OH Kent State brought them together after a goverment mass shooting. Something good came out of it and it was Devo. Many more Mark Allen..
put devo in the rock and roll hall of fame now 2024 excellent song 😛😜🤪😎🥸🤥🤑
How D-E-V-O is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is criminal!
These guys were way ahead of their time musically and socially.
Vote them in!!!
Dude it's 2020 and they are STILL not IN! They get nominated but never chosen #criminalisright #2020devolutionisreal
ARRRRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!! Injustice!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a farce. Who are they to decide what artists are legendary? Devo is legendary.
Not being in the r and r h o f = HUGE CREDIBILITY! 😁
The R&RHOF is a joke anyway, so many great bands not included and even more undeserving bands included. 🤢 🤮
I saw DEVO twice. The first time was on a lark. The second was sheer madness. They were unreal. I saw them play That's Good with the giant screen. Don Bagley And that's good *PAW* *PAW* *PAW* *PAW*
They are phenomenal and have been nominated to the R&R Hall if Fame for the last 15 yrs but never get enough votes to get in which is a sin!
it's a monumental good thing.
Put these brilliant musician's in the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME NOW. DEVO Rocks
Such a great song, timeless and way ahead of it's time when released
Devo is such awesome punk rock
I hate it when my french fry breaks in half when I'm sticking it into a donut.
I was in a bar on Memorial Day in NYC and the bartender was wearing a Devo 2022 tour shirt (only 3 dates) and had control of the music. I was jazzed when this fun tune came on,.
Bittersweet watching stuff like this. I love it but wish to christ I was back in the 80s.
There was an innocence that cannot be replicated. Today's youth have no idea what it's like to be free.
Devo pulled off what seemed like the impossible w/ this video!!! Still can't believe they got this video on the air!! It would be challenging even today....just goes to show how ahead of the game these guys were!!! Put them in the Hall of Fame already!!!!
Well,if you are old enough to remember MTV could not show this after a while because of content...imagine that.
"GOODTIMES". I'm glad that I lived in that ERA. Time Machine take me back. 👍👍
The irony of this song is that it actually became a huge hit in dance clubs, frequented by perhaps the very kinds of people this song was targeting and satirizing.
Here in Brazil, Devo was a sucsses band at 1984!
Wooow! I was 13 years old in that year.
Especially among the skaters
Not only did I love Devo growing up (still do), but my mum actually liked them, too. Sort of mind-blowing.
DEVO was great back in the day! New Wave forever, baby!
DEVO is the best band ever
+Deacon Diedrich um..you r entitled to your opinion but the best? REALLY?
In my opinion, yes. But thank you for acknowledging the fact that I am entitled to my opinion.
I second that emotion.
One of the few things that makes me proud of being from Akron.
I saw Devo live in Seattle back in the 80's. These guys are the bomb.
I bought their debut album 'Are we not men? We are Devo' in 1979. They were light years ahead of everyone else and sadly enough, their musical cynicism still applies to the "You can't fix stupid" world we still live (die) in today.
On the money !!! DEVO was an institution ! A concept that does fit in today's world 45 years later !
bama VOX Actually,it came out in 1978!
Whatever He is spot on about the Devo- Revolutionizing of modern music !
DEVO for president in 2024.

I now walk through the Shop Rite supermarket and never in my wildest dreams would I believe they would be playing Devo on the intercom. Finally, "That's Good".
I heard DEVO's "Beautiful World" in a Whole Foods store. No kidding, I got the date and time marked in mind.
I think the moral of this video is not to use French fries to poke your doughnut because they will eventually snap - an important life lesson and that's good.
then you have to rub cream on your French fry for the rest of your life
what no ketchup??
No. It's a monumental good thing.
That happened to me. I still hear the sound of that french fry snapping in my nightmares
Thanks WAPTEK great story. Really pales to what we see on the internet today.
Could be my favorite DEVO song!
Why on earth were most of these Devo songs not hits
God, you know what was a monumental good thing? The new wave, and DEVO in particular.
Influenced so many bands....get 'em in the Hall already!
no doubt
I saw DEVO on this tour. Anos 80,únicos e maravilhosos!
I loved these guys. I love these guys.
Right after watching this I get an ad for crinkle cut French fries... that can’t be a coincidence
At first I never liked them but after a while I realized how great and groundbreaking they were.
The song lives up to its name.
One of my favourite 80's songs and good to dance too 🎶🌻
Underrated AF! ❤️
MUSIC of top quality 80 s !!!!! (São Paulo - Brazil)
Videos from this era generally had not adopted the hyper-quick editing style that we have grown accustomed to. I imagine this video must have seemed frenetically paced at the time, but we consumers have been so well trained that we barely notice the cuts. Devo made some really neat videos, and great songs!
"Life's a bee without a buzz
It's going great
'til you get stung!"
I just love this
Rightous !! Thank you for posting...used to cruise it in my 73 Gremlin....rock'n to Devo.
Drive a different car....listen to different (but GREAT) music.
Screw conformity.....after a point.
Oh No...It's DEVO!
Rarely do I see credit given to the innovative drumming. Itreally is something so different to what groups usually do.
Drummers usually want to be seen as their own musicians, doing solos and flaunting their shit. Alan Meyers was a true drummer doing the drummer's principle task... setting the rhythm and tempo for the rest of the band to follow. Which he did, with mechanical precision. Music is better than drugs.
"freedom of choice" and "oh no, it's devo" are 2 great albums. not really a bad song on them. can't tell you how many times i listened to them top to bottom. mark = musical genius!!!

DEVO IS SO AWESOME !
I love how Devo's lyrics are almost always positive.
@bzzzzap That’s affirmative: An antidote to social entropy and DEVO-lution!…
Tom Delonge brought me here. 😅

As much as I love Devo it was one of my biggest pet peeves in the eighties when the drummers would stand. Don't ask me why.
EVEN , GRATE LEADERS ,LIKE RON PAUL AND JESSE VENTURA , SAY , DE-EVOLUTION IS REAL !
Brian i agree world wasn't ready for devo at that time. Never missed a concert when there came to philly. Had all the gear too lol.
this is so entertaining
Definitely one of their greatest songs!
Supremely sensible looking people doing unsensible things, genius.
The collars on their shirts remind me of toilet seats.
Because if a guy in school used the ladies room it was a bullies job to give him a swirly
I live vicariously through that frenchfrie, LUCKY frenchfrie
DEVO IS AWSOME !
Mixtape trailer brought me here.
These guys should guest-star on The Big Bang Theory.
These guys remind me a lot of NZ band Split Enz.
Spuds !! Happy 72nd Mark Allen Mothersbaugh. May 18, 1950, Akron, OH
Kent State brought them together after a goverment mass shooting. Something good came out of it and it was Devo. Many more Mark Allen..

Grande banda.
I just realized devo's music was featured heavily in 1984beverly hills cop and oingo boingo as well....
They were so great!!
The Americans season 5 premiere
Anos 80 the best!
i thought whip it was amazing, damn this song is so good 😊
Just seen these guys Dec 1st 2023 Melbourne Australia for their farewell tour 💪🏼🔥
Same but in London, UK. A band I genuinely thought I'd never get to see, and I did! (well, most of them 😢)
bingo
O Rei das Manhãs
And here I go on my next devo binge
Hey! That's my neighbors board!
That’s good!!
man I almost didn't notice that green screen
Devo without a green screen is like a fish without water
ahahahah
WRONG. Back then, they used blue screen.
Devo, genious of techno pop.
Reminds me of the sounds a Boeing 767's computers would make (manufactured 1982-present).
Where is the RAY SIPE squad at?
Love that solo part in the song.
