- In this video, I start to transform an ordinary automotive service bay into an incredible workspace, featuring vintage automotive signs, soda, signs and other American advertising relics from the past. This is part one and a part two is coming soon with the walls, fully decorated with enamel signs from our past automotive gas , oil, and vintage advertising history in America.

Porcelain and neon, nice. Yeh, I got rid of all my T8 fluorescents and ballast units and went to direct power LED tubes. Good move.

Thanks Robert, My Father was a carpenter , contractor and jack of all trades . He taught me many skills when I was very young. I always watched him work even at the age of four or five years old. I like the small LED signs 😊 . Thanks for watching the video. I’m

My favorite of light up signs May surprise you but it is the Sinclair. You know how I like Phillips 66
Sinclair gas stations are more in your part of the world aren’t they?
@@gaspumprobthey were more my part of world when I was growing up. But for the longest time they disappeared. I forgot who bought them up. But they disappeared. But I'm going to say 20 years ago they start popping back in the midwest more so. But my boys and me maybe 10 years ago went to the Sinclair refinery company town. Took a lot of footage! But all that seemed to have disappeared. BY THE WAY I CORRECTED WITH AUTOCORRECT MESSED UP ON MY ORIGINAL COMMENT HERE
@@CAROLDDISCOVER-2025 Hace you seen the large statue Dino dinosaur displays in front of Sinclair gas stations in the past few years I found one in California and a couple in Kansas on my road trip adventure. They are pretty cool. You imagine having one of those in your front yard your neighbors would love you. 😂😂😂😂

@@peterselten500 Cool 😎 I was not sure what year they changed to Caltex there. Did you notice a Caltex sign on my Gas Pump garage door? That Caltex sign on my pump
garage sliding door was from France.
@@gaspumprob yes i was intersted where it was from i got a caltex power kerosenne 6x3 sign with a 55 gallon drum on it plus 2 oil rack signs an im getting a caltex cm pump off a mate soon an iv had a small light up 70s caltex sign for yrs the lite up 66 is my fsvoirite of the 3

@@anthonynapier4668 Thanks better than using your head to hold it in place to get the screws in !!! I know all of us in construction have used our heads and hands to hold up sheets of drywall before. This worked out beautifully.

We never turn off fluorescent lights off in the shop.
Oh yeah my Dad told me turning on a fluorescent light uses enough power to run them a whole day, so never turn them off and back on in the middle of the day.
@@gaspumprobat the end of the day we would often turn them off. But all day we left them on. And he was so excited about the fluorescent lights. Just like you were excited about the new lights you put up. My question is, what will the next generation find so exciting.???? And then look upon the lights you put in today as being so outdated. It's exciting technology is very exciting. Unless it's the deep State then it's very scary.😮
Like what your doing..i like keeping the old school look..in a service bay in my home garage..i have a 10 ft ceiling..now due to some structure change i made in my garage.. at home its my man cave , service bay ..i got an old school air compressor.. i found in an gas station..closed for 25 yrs ..also an old school Rotary inground lift. Single post ..fully hdy.. with an oil Valve.i restored..so i can control the lift on a dime..and some old signage..i had ..from my dads service station days ..i have a working bay ..hobby shop. Ive had some car collectors now looking for these old school lifts ..to complete there garage.,s..there vary hard to find today..the old super structures are now worth 4 thousand. Today cost ..to replace.. through SVI inc who builds them in Dekelb,IL. If u find one save it..the lift tops ..i restored mine ..to like new. The whole lift...its was worth the small investment..im in new port richey ,fl.

I like that Union gas sign because I don't know where it's from. But I have not seen that before. Is there a West Coast thing 🧐
I will explain the union sign in my next video, but I must say the union oil company got sued by the union Pacific Railroad line for copying part of their logo back in the 1930s. Most of the signs were destroyed and union oil company ended up paying for this lawsuit and then had to change all their logos to a different design.

I thought everybody knew gas pump ⛽ Rob collected signs. He has been pimping me out look for certain signs ☢️. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not to mention certain gas pumps and a certain rotary pickup 🛻. It's all fine I have list of things that I keep an eye out for people.
well I figured since you are on the road discovering old cars and trucks why not add gas pumps and signs to your discovery list . Hopefully you will find me some neat stuff in the future.

@@targco Thanks for mentioning this to me. What gauge black metal were you thinking about? It’s interesting that you mention that because at one point I was thinking that press tin with a pattern in it that they used on the ceiling of old dining cars, but I didn’t have the resources to buy that so I went ahead and bought the drywall and put it up Instead . I appreciate watching my video and leaving a comment. If you have any other good ideas for me always feel free to reach out and mention it. I’m learning new things every day and as far as Black metal that hadn’t crossed my mind at the time.
@ it has become the new trend, makes your ceiling disappear and your walls higher. With the new style of lighting it really looks sharp. Usually just 26 guage standard exterior roofing material or siding , comes in sheets however long you require
@@targco Well this sounds very interesting! I’m looking up at that white ceiling right now and I’m trying to visualize it and I think you’re right that would look really sharp and it would make the walls pop out more so at you with all the different colored signs.
